If Toronto had of drafted Gretzky....would he have been sucked into the curse ??? probably... LOL
Not getting him was part of the curse. Same with McDavid. :snoop:

It's pretty ridiculous when you look at the talent that has played in the Center of the Universe over the decades, with bugger-all to show for it.
I was a Buds fan back in the 70s when they had such a great team(before the Oilers joined the league). Problem was the Habs and then Islanders dynasties were always better.

Do you think that little weenie Dubas (and his stupid glasses) will get canned? There have to be changes made, no?

In northern Alberta we sacrifice lone Americans that we catch(think Children of the Corn, with spruce trees).
;)
How did you think we managed to get both 99 and 97?

one thing about slave lake though...man you can catch more pickerel (usa is Walleye) than you can ever eat...in very short order.

Ontario is plagued with overfishing..if you don't have a boat and you have a spot you take it with you to the grave...
That's so crazy.

Out here we say it's all overfished and are jealous of all the water you guys on the Canadian Shield have. I guess the grass is always greener.....

We do have a shitload of walleye. Too many actually. They stocked them everywhere and then implemented either 100% C&R or a tag system. They've even screwed up trophy pike lakes by filling them full of little walleye that you have to release and that fight like a wet sock most of the time.

Around here it's just under cooked Calamari getting tossed on the ice. Too bad no one has a Tempura Fryer at the stadium.... LOL.

We have Pickerel here too though apparently they are confused with "Baby Pike" LOL. Wonder how many state records have been tossed back because of misidentifying them.

As for the grass being greener in America or Canada.... Probably depends on how much bullshit there is to fertilize it LOL. Canada got Skinny Puppy, Molsen, Moosehead, Gutter Demons, and the proper poutine all in one, but we got the bourbon and bigger Flatheads..... And MC5 and Rockabilly it must be said. Outlaw Country in my experience was loved by both sides. Channel Cats are a toss up because you can realistically expect the Red River of the North to humiliate any southern American state in terms of Channel Cat sizes.

Now Driving in Quebec on the other hand.... LOL.

The walleye/pickeral debate will never end in Canada, due to regional differences. Technically though, they are called walleye. There is no fish with the proper name "pickerel" anywhere near me.
I believe you are referring to chain pickerel, which do look like pike but are much smaller.

Walleye are a different species and look very different but somewhere along the way, some people started calling them pickerel. /shrug

They’re going to run it back with minor tweaks to the bottom of the roster and possibly (hopefully) a goalie. Dubas and Keefe aren’t going anywhere.

proper poutine

I know you spent time in Quebec, but just as an FYI, thinking of Quebec as representative of all of Canada is like going to Hawaii and thinking that is what the US is like.

Out here it's beef, preferably cooked over proper carcinogenic smoke, with baked spuds on the side ;).
For music, check out Spirit of the West, Mike Plume, Captain Tractor, the Arrogant Worms, k d lang, Disciples of Power, the smalls, SNFU, Mike McDonald, Junior Gone Wild, etc, etc.

B.C. is a very different culture from the Prairie Provinces. Quebec is literally a distinct society, per our constitution. Atlantic Canada has Cape Breton, Newfoundland, PEI, Labrador, and more, all unique and wonderful.

If you get a chance to get to any of those places, you will see that you've only begun to know Canada.

I saw the HNIC( now there's an acronym with a VERY different meaning, depending which side to the Medicine Line you are on) panel saying the same thing. The management was safe, but they figured there would be personnel changes.

I see people saying that in previous series they lost because they didn't play up to potential, but this time they did, and came sooo close. I wonder if that makes it better or worse.
If they played up to their skill level and still came up short, that seems to indicate the team as constructed is lacking.

I can only imagine the frustration right now in Leaf Land.

Yeah I should have probably specified what I meant. But yes you have it. Walleye are actually the most abundant species in the Great Lakes, and we do enjoy eating them, but, sadly for the people near me, Flatheads seem to be fond of them too, so I see Walleye and their cousin the Sauger as a wonderful live bait.

I haven't personally ever landed a Pike, or a "Pickerel",or a Musky for that matter though I would like to one day (especially those beautiful Tiger Musky!!! STUNNING fish!!) but that's because I don't really no where to target them.

The lures people use for big Musky are not unlike what I'd use for a Flathead so I think I'd be OK if I got on a boat. I mainly fish from shore though and only go on a boat when it's an invite. I DID land a nice 13 pound Lake Trout my very first time trolling for Salmonids, but at the end of the day, Catfish are my main reason for sitting at a river in 90 degrees Fahrenheit weather getting rained on LOL. Sturgeon would be another fish I'd like to catch, and we do have those here, and I do believe I have the gear to handle one. I also quite like catching Carp.

Carp is actually the largest fish I've landed to date (At least so far and one I actually weighed) as it was like 15 pounds. I probably could change rigs and up my chances for bigger Carp but in my experience they aren't anywhere near as line shy as Fluorocarbon makers would have you believe LOL. That one I got was with 17 pound mono. I've also landed 2 pound or so white Perch on 40 pound Mono. I don't use braid really at all because it costs a lot more than mono, and I prefer the abrasion resistance Mono offers and simply use larger Reels to hold it all.

I've got an Okuma Classic CLX-450-LA, a Penn 209M, a Penn Fathom Lever Drag 25, and a Penn Fathom Lever Drag 15, and I had an old Abu Garcia Ambassador 6000, but the Wife got her very first conventional Rod last year, and I put that on her Rod as it's easier for her to cast (She picked up on casting that reel like a champ!) and me, I'm happy she can cast one so I'm fine not using that haha.

I know Ontario quite well too; I could see it from my bedroom window growing up. To be Honest a lot of people here, specially if they are a similar age, used to think of Canada as another state because we never needed much to go over the border. I remember being annoyed in late 2001 that they actually started patrolling it for the first time.... We used to go there simply to visit stores and eat (The closest Popeyes to me is literally in Ontario....) but I spent a lot of time in Ontario as well. I saw the "Blockhead" hatred some people in Quebec were known for, but as an Anglophone I thought some of that was just silly.

Now BC I'd LOVE to visit!!!!! I know there is a lot of natural beauty there, and LOTS of Woods I could go frolic in (I run around the woods here barefoot high as Eagle snot) and I'd LOVE that. I'd also love to see some of the weed history that BC has. Also.... Skinny Puppy of course! Huge fan!

I'll have to save that list you gave me of music, but have you ever checked out DOA ? They're from BC too.

My traveling of Canada is limited to Ontario and Quebec, and I know I probably shouldn't lump Quebecois culture in the vastness of Canada (Canada apparently meant the village in First Nation tongue...Used to be a joke that Canada just drew letters out of a hat to make the name.... C Eh....N Eh....D Eh.....And so on) but my time in Montreal was actually pretty pleasant even if some of my ex Wife's friends thought I was kidding about being an American.... (But you're smart and polite.....WTF?) LOL it's OK though, they were lumping all people born on the other side of a river together too.

I think BC would be my ideal visiting spot though; Music and Weed both being special from one area, I take notice. If I ended up on the Eastern part passed Quebec I'd totally go see the Moosehead brewery. I'm a total history nerd and I love Canadian Beer so I'd be all over that.

That's one thing I miss about actually living there.... The Beer store in Ontario, and those Quebecois White Beers that come in huge bottles. I can get Molsen here Thank God. And Moosehead. I think we finally have Aero bars too which, I know may sound strange, but back in the day you had to drive to Ontario to get those..... Then they started selling them here at some point. But yeah I love Canada myself. Driving from East Michigan to Quebec COULD be fun of course, but at the end of the trip it was hard to want to do much LOL.

I've caught sturgeon into the 30s and numerous 20 lb+ pike. I never worry too much about the name on my gear. Just about any reputable brand puts out decent rods and reels. I just look for sales on matched rod/reel combos in the proper weight. Also, since the river is very hard on gear(so much sand, and just rough travel), I tend to replace rods and reels after a few years so spending big isn't good use of money.

Terminal tackle, making and configuring rigs, reading the water, and presentation are far more important to me when I'm fishing.

I'm not unlike that myself; I can't really afford the "latest in doesn't weigh much" technology, so instead I started learning what materials Rods are made from, and then found what I think is a good middle ground in terms of useful, and lower price; I don't own any Graphite or Carbon Fiber rods, though I do have some cheaper Ugly Stiks that are made from both Fiberglass and Graphite at a decent price, but for actual large fish, I'm a fan of S-Glass; The brand doesn't really matter as much, and S-Glass and E-Glass are widely used for Catfish blanks, and normally I get a new Rod as a Christmas gift each year from my Mom (Won't be this year though.... Found Exodus Cheese seeds straight up) but that was how I was able to get decent Rods (The ones I use are between 70 and 90 dollars for the Rod, which for pure S-Glass, and an Aluminum Reel Seat and the guides being re-enforced stainless steel I feel like that's a good Rod) and for Reels, the reason the Okuma is a huge one is my budget was 50 dollars for a Reel, and that had a big enough spool that I felt comfortable with it and honestly I haven't had any issue.

That Penn 209M is probably older than I am; It was gifted by my soon to be Father in Law a few years ago, and still works great so I don't see a reason to change it out; Though as you pointed out if it gets sand in it..... Had that happen the MOMENT I landed that Carp! Fucker smoked the reel LOL.

The Fathom Reels are the only high dollar thing I own for fishing though' Those actually cost like 200 dollars normally, but those are something that I should be able to pass on to the step daughters when I go; They're all metal, I've got blueprints and part numbers, they can replace the parts as need be, and I finally have something other than a fucked up sense of humor to pass to them.

When people new to Catfishing ask me for advice, I tell them the Truth; Ignore shiny brochures, ignore the incredibly expensive stuff, and go for durable gear (Fiberglass is cheaper than Graphite, Mono is cheaper than everything else) and I say save your money on your gear and put that into good hooks! You can land a fish on a POS reel and half broken rod, but a bad hook.... I DO spend money on hooks; Granted 5 dollars for a hook or two isn't like spending 500 on a St. Croix Rod, but it is more expensive. I like Berkley Big Game Mono, and Slime Line for Mono line, and the Hooks I like a few different ones but I will spend the extra 3 or 4 dollars on a pack of good hooks.

I became a fan of Octopus hooks as they offer a lot of wiggle room on the hook set; For suckers that have small mouths, I just reel down on them as though I'm using a Circle Hook, and that works a lot better in my experience.

I hope you find something you enjoy in there.
Oh yeah, DOA and a shitload of others. I just typed that list in 2 minutes off the top of my head, it could have been 10x longer.

I accidentally fell into running a club in 94-95 and was booking music as part of the gig. I saw 15+ bands some weeks. Then those connections had me on guest lists for years after, so I could talk obscure to unknown, but amazing acts for way longer than anyone would want to listen. ;) :ROFLMAO:

If you are ever bored and looking for something you've never heard of to check out, let me know and I'll see what I can pull from my old brain.

If you like great lyricists and storytellers, check out Mike Plume from that list. He was based out of Edmonton for years, was working in Nashville as a songwriter for a while, and is just super talented. A jaded old road dog friend of mine who is a very sought after front of house guy retired after years on the road. He told me a few times the only guy he would ever tour with was Plume, as his songs never got old.
