What are you mini split guys using? I know the tech has kinda caught up amongst the diff brands but I still cant keep the Mitsubishi minis outta my head lol. Looking to save some power with a high seer rating inverter unit, tired of this big ol window banger sucking up all the dang juice.

I’ve been looking at something like this that can be done without an hvac tech.
It comes with 25’ precharged lines and looks pretty straightforward?

I had a 25 seer Senville Aura installed a couple of years ago that does both heat and ac. The unit is very economical to run but i struggle to control humidity with it. Everything works great if i run a dehumidifier at times and other times i have to go the apposite direction with a humidifier. You will most likely need a dedicated 15 amp breaker to run the unit. I am far from a expert in this field but those pre recharged lines will still need to be vacuumed. I thought i would be able to control the humidity more unless there is something wrong with my unit.

I wouldnt mind running the humidifier, it doesn’t generate much heat.
My dehumidifier would be an issue?

Sounds like you had it installed?
Did it look like something diy with half a brain?

Clearing the lines seems to be the biggest issue & it's more just having the right tools to purge them. I've heard of the prefilled lines working fine but most ac guys I've asked dont reccomend them for some reason or another.

The pre filled lines was my concern. I would think you would still have to check pressures?
I’m not sure 25’ is enough for me, I see other companies offer different lengths that have to be serviced.

Yeah that's about what I've gathered too 25' being the limit on precharge sets. I've also heard of people getting their unit & the precharge lines were damaged in shipping leaving them sol.

I'm not trying to buy a new system every couple years either. The ones they have at my hydro store are a decent price but they are not efficient & the warranty is only for a year. I have a friend who's been running his same mitsubishi since 05 with no issues.

Yes i had a friend help me on it that had some background in hvac. I think everything was fairly strait forward on the install except the step that @Dbear speaks of. I wish i could figure out the humidity problem with it though. I would like to have a pro check mine out but not possible considering the location of the unit.

I am pretty sure that mitsubishi invented the mini split and hard to go wrong with that choice.

I run in a pretty sealed up room, I cant go very long in flower without a dh. My humidity spikes for a bit when lights go out but the dh brings it back down within 30 min. Veg is no big deal they like it hot n humid, especially with c02.

Yes here lately i have been shutting the humidifier off when the flower lights come on. I just thought i might be able to control the humidity more than i can. Outside weather plays a huge role in the course i take to control it.

I put in one of those Mr Cool units last summer, absolutely love the thing & so quiet too but I got it a heck of a lot cheaper than that, ordered from Costco. I am seriously considering buying a second one for our bedroom to replace a wall unit.

@Baja.Beaches did you install the first one in the grow area? If so do you have to run the dehumidifier at times to control humidity?

When me & my old partner split he took the dh. I was 6-weeks into flower & had to run for 4 days with the ac on full blast & the grow room door open to try & control humidity. The window banger def pulls some out cuz I see the puddle it makes but not as much or as efficiently as my dh does.

I don't know for sure but i would be willing to bet my dehuy burns more electric than my mini split. Wish i did not have to run it at all because of the heat and electric costs

My situation is a bit different, I have a little guest cottage, like 400 sq ft total, old & not insulated. The tent is in the bathroom there but seriously overheated the whole studio which is my man cave refuge as well. I spend a lot of time in it, I am sitting in it right now. I am cooling the entire cottage, not jsut the tent area with a 1200 BTU, once it is cooled off it is just loafing along, not using all that much electricity.

A game changer for me, I have been shutting down the tent during summer, the previous wall unit was super loud & could not cool it. I hated that thing.

Installation was not that complicated either just me & a buddy although we did need to run an electic sub panel, the electrical was ancient & no 220.

I am not needing a dehumidifier generally, the AC usually dries it out enough for my modest needs but I do run a small dehumidifier sometimes.

@Capt. C is the unit oversized for the space by chance? If the AC is only running for short bursts it doesn't have enough time to pull any humidity out. Although if it's pretty humid out, and the plants are transpiring hard the AC just might not be enough to pull rh down on its own.
Yes i am sure it is over-sized for the area. I did not know that could be a issue and would make some sense if that is what is going on. Everything seems to function fine other than the humidity issue.
