Gonna Build a Little Pond

Curious, in what all you are seeing ?
Remember how I said I knew nothing about ponds or shrubs?

Guess what I need to start learning about now?
Other than a few basics like corvids, swallows, grouse, chickadees, red wing blackbirds and a couple others, I'm very uneducated. I can identify a raptor or a woodpecker for example, but usually can't be more specific.

The birds I'm seeing are small. There's three or more species with one having faded-red on top of its head. Like I said, I'll try to get photographs and you can likely tell me.

"Chickadee ?"

Saw one the other day and commented that they are usually gone higher by now. Haven't seen any at the pond yet.

"Chipping sparrows" are the ones that are the first to really make use of the pond(just found them online). If I stop moving, even if I'm standing there running the hose into the pond, they are all around me in no time.

Blue Jays and robins are the only other ones I've identified so far at the pond, the rest are still unknown.

Curiosity indicates a flexible mind.
A flexible mind is a young mind.
I started getting in trouble for asking too many questions at 7. Didn't stop me.
"Don't make an assertion if you can't prove it. I'm going to pick at your logic until I'm satisfied." (paraphrased ;) )
Grade 2 teachers can't handle that. At least mine couldn't.

I heard/read long ago when you stop learning, you're dead. It always made sense.

Pond is beautiful, by the way.
Thanks. Like I said, just getting started.

Speaking of timing...

Got notice my first order of plants was in so I made myself fit for public viewing and jumped in the car. It was 11:58. Shit. The Post Office closes at noon for lunch.

I made it. :) Yay tiny village life!
By 1:08 I had planted 6 haskaps and one goji in the final spots and potted the second goji to come out of dormancy while I figure out where to plant it.

Pond is circulating, water level is maintaining, birds are bathing.
Going to sit by the pond and give my various aching joints at least one more day of rest before getting more rocks.
Life is good as long as the fires stay far away. :D

Still LOTS of work to do, this is just making sure everything works.

Going to raise the level another 4 inches or so, add a bunch more stone around the edges, hide the hoses and cords, etc, etc, etc.

Everything looks so great, man. Looks like a fuck-ton, er... *metric* fuck-ton of work.
You really have nice, loamy soil where you are - that must help a little!
Shit yeah, you've earned a day off! Rest up and hope for rain, brother. ?

As soon as you learn a new one, it's everywhere.
One that surprised me was the turkey vulture. I had no idea we had them around here until one flew over the boat one day. There's no mistaking that face. Seen a few more since.

I'm trying to get better at telling juvenile bald eagles from golden eagles. I only recently realized how similar they are. I have no clue how many I've misidentified over the years.

Everything looks so great, man.
Thank you kindly. :)

I've wanted an outdoor camera since I bought the place, but even more now. I want a live feed from the pond that I can watch from inside the house and that I can stream if I choose.

So damn many things to learn.(I'm not complaining, I love it)

Oh, and now ecosphere terrariums have caught my attention. The idea of having greenery and life during the cold months is appealing.
