no problem bro,? like i said maybe someone can break down the amounts for a lesser amount.
do you fish? i get tons of casting free from a local bait shop they used to clean em out and just toss them, and they are a small ma and pop shop so they feed and care for their worms pretty well.

Haven't in 30 years,since the old man passed. It was his/our thing.Mainly his,but I enjoyed the time,bonding spent.

There are a few bait shops around, nice tip about the fresh local source.Thank you.Lol,that thought never really occurred to me.Outside the box thinking. I'm sure in this bigass state,I could probably source a lot of ingredients I'd need for a good soil mix real close.
I'd need to drive to the city, but it would be a lot more economical than ordering online.Unless, its something specific.

You could mix a single tote full if you wanted, I can do some math for ya if needed. I like math. Lol

I keep a number of totes that I cook my soil in.
The 18 gallon size, keeps the weight manageable.
I like to keep em under a shelf in the garage with dates listed. My garage stays 40 -80* year rnd.
Typically ive got 8 to 10 of the totes about 3/4 full in various stages of readieness.
As plants get chopped I recycle their soil into a newly emptied tote, add a bit of amending based on how the last plant performed, mix it, wet it, date it, and shelve it.

Imho its better to not let em be outside as it keeps bugs access limited and the temps etc more consistant.
I've learned the hard way to not bring soil in from outdoors without treatment for bugs. Lol.

My dude! I'm definitely gonna take you up on that.Math isnt my strong suit, unless Im counting bread. WTF is 33% Aeration,33% base%33compost? (These #s are just thrown in for examples sake) Where tf is that other 1%? lol.Im clueless. I'd be mixing up 18 gal tote-worth atta time or how much the 1-2 bags of base, plus the ewc and minerals make, aeration included of course.
Yes,have plenty of hdx 18gal totes and a nice lil
shed to hold/cook the soil in them in.
Ya,nothaving soil outdoors cooking on a tarp is a no go for me.Not so much worried about bugs and I am the Po-Po.
From what I understand, true living soil and or compost doesn't have "bad" bugs,or are out competed by "good" bugs, fungi and bacteria. I might be saying that wrong,I'm still a newb to all of this.
My soil growing experience goes as far as tossing some beans in the dirt outside and letting them rip.
I didn't know any better back then and was doing as told lol.?

The bugs I refer too are things like the thrips, aphids, fungus gnats, and so on. They'll lay their eggs in the soil and then hatch in your grow.
There's your other 1%. Lmfao.
I've had such happen to me though for real. Lol

Ill crunch some reduced numbers on it for that mix and throw them up here.

?? lol gotcha.Ugh,THOSE are the bugs which have deterred me from indoor soil runs previously. I know a good ipm is standard. Also, anything preventative is of course useful,ie..no outdoor cooking for moi.My girl at the time was allergic to insect bites and bugs pretty much freaked her out. Yes,she WAS worth it...then.?Which nixed any soil experiments at the time.
Thank you for the numbers crunch.???

A friend at work said to find sonething other than bone and blood meal because it will attract animals to dig it up.
Any truth to this?
Lots of animals where I'm at. I pretty much gave up on outdoor unless you can use fencing. Constantly getting dug up.
Bloodmeal, Crab meal, and anything with fish is the worst. Try sticking more with alfalfa meal and nutes derived from plants or go synthetic.

In some areas I would say yes. Oppossums, armadillos, and squirrels are the worst really that I've dealt with. If you cant use small cages around the plant or anything it sucks lol. You can place large rocks on top of soil to keep them from digging unless it's a bear lol, and it helps save nutes from rain runoff.

got a dog? spread the hair around lol it deters lots of animals. take good amounts of pisses when you visit your scent is a deterrent as long as your not talking about city deer lol them bitches aint worried about anything haha
I had to battle city deer in the corn fields of Nois. Fucking crazy when you're out in a quite field on outskirts of town, but literally half a mile away from city life, at like 2 am and hear a fucking deer come up on you.

I'm just doing garden work and these mofo deer just grubbing but both creeping, then you hear some ruffling walk through a row or two and bam you're looking like 5 deer in the face. They kind of looked at me and I could tell they didnt give two shits about me, lol. Dont remember a buck that time but either way got my heart racing.

But I'll take a deer sneaking up on me out in the midwest over a transient creeping up on me out here in the west, lol.

Battle was harsh choice of words but I did piss all over the outdoor grow area, put out dog hair and that usually worked good but I think luck helped more.

Man I’ve had a city deer literally bump into me walking past as I worked on a a French drain job the customer had apple trees on the property and they were walking past me all evening like I wasn’t even there. Wild but I’ve spent countless hours in the woods hunting their fucking cousins and saw nothing ??‍♂️

The best was at a local state park I was heading to a small lake to fish. I was probably 22, 6' 1" and 140 lbs skinny little fucker. Well I come up over a hill on the trail and bam, I was 10' from a 180 lbs like 6-8 point white tail and two does.

He looked at me and snorted. Images of that 1 famous video of that guy getting his ass beat by the buck throwing punches to his face ran through my head. So I threw my back pack up with my fishing pole and yelling trying to make myself look bigger.

The does bounced but that buck literally laugh in my face turned and pranced off knowing he'd beat my ass. I'm just lucky is was post rut.

Love the soil mix you are cooking up here. Sounds like it would be great to use both indoor in pots, and outdoors.
Are you using it for both in and out?

Have to agree on the problem of animals digging up just about anything I plant outdoors. Possum, coons, squirrels, and wood mice seem to love the fresh dug dirt. Adding crab, bone, blood, fish meal, or emulsions is like a bonus for those critters.
Then .. IF the plant does make it and starts producing fresh green tips, the deer are on it like white on rice.
The wife has at least 150 different plants, shrubs, berries, trees, and flowers planted around our yard. It's an all you can eat smorgasbord for game.
This youngin' was feasting on tame black berries,, got caught in a quick downpour and was separated from it's mom for a few minutes.

DE can be used in so many ways!
I may just buy top soil from a local greenhiuse and add compost, peat and a addition agent. I.e. calcined diatemecous earth
Be wary of how much your adding. The ph of de is usually around 9. Too much can easily throw your soil way out of wack depending on usage.
