Question Rep Points

The reputation point system is still a bit raw... but I am liking the way its working out so far... Members can give rep points for any reason they like... If you think something is extra special, then you would attribute more points to it...If someone is being a douche, then we can take points away...(Thats only happened once to me so far) Its kind of a way to just track how much members contribute, and the quality of the content... Members that post more will obviously have higher scores... Its not perfect, as @Agent Trent Hauser is pretty active here, but still has a low score. Thats just because it hasnt come across my screen until now... I have been making an attempt to score things for everyone, as I make it through everyones journals and other content. I believe the system will eventually find balance.

This is not a system to "rank" members, and it is not a race to the top. It was just something @spyralout thought up to try and add a little more emphasis on nuance, and quality content. If this makes any sense lol.

See, that's why I was hesitant to make the thread. I didn't want to seem to be campaigning for a different number beside my avatar.

The whole thing just seems kind of weird and awkward without a clear definition of what it means.

You are responsible for most of my rep points. I'm grateful, I understand the good will behind the gesture. Like in the meme though, I feel like now I have an obligation to you for a thing I never requested and still don't really value, due to the lack of definition.

Please, this is not an insult or attack on you or anyone else in "management". I appreciate what you are building here. I guess I just wanted to open up a discussion and see if it's just me or if others have similar thoughts.

What is the obligation you feel?

@spyralout explained it better than I did. It is very simply a system to replace the very common +1 posts... If you like it, give the rep, or dont... its totally up to you. There is value imo, because when the system is perfected, members will be able to cash rep points in for tangible stuffs.

Additional question on rep points actually because I just noticed this ... @Agent Trent Hauser had 75 rep points ... then I added +10 and it went to 84, which seemed odd ... so I looked back and realized I had given him +1 previously... so it appears they're cumulative? So when I just said +10 for the meme, it actually only added 9 to the 1 I already gave him... am I understanding that right?

Shouldn't be that way. Points are straight up depending on how many you put. Not sure why it would have done that.

There is a post in Site News that had the initial point set up for those of you that have qualified with the guidelines:

Please review, and if you have met any of these and we haven't rewarded yet (it is a manual process), then we will instantly award you the points accordingly. With any new system feature, it can be confusing, and we evolve as we go. As @jaguarlax stated above, once the system is perfected, we can turn these points into tangible rewards. It was just a shame to see people saying "+1" and such for well versed posts that didn't seem to go anywhere. That can be accomplished in the reaction scores as a like. But with +1, we can accumulate and actualize these - then reward accordingly.
