Search for RKS

Skunky Dunk Farms

Cannabinoid Receptor
Ok i want to start a thread i hope will be helpful, especially for the older crowd (younger folks just dont know) to do a legitimate search and journey for our fabeled Road Kill Skunk lineage.
We all know the story, the terps got bred out to prevent attracting law.

So,
I will start with Authentic Genetics.
It is a breeder who claims to have it.
Many do.
So,,,,if ya know of a breeder that is searching for or following a line post it up in this thread and maybe we can discover it again.
I want to start getting beans from these breeders and start mixing up the genes!
Ive never had the highs of those old strains, the terp profiles were so loud and rude and delicious!
So if ya have any lines to follow post up to revive our past.

Yes ive heard great things about a few breeders, but somehow it never seems to come out.
Ive tried a couple "skunk" strains over the years and never a skunk on the farm!
Im determined to find something and if any of these boys have a bit of it maybe, just maybe it could be persuaded to reveal itself.

I've looked and got frustrated enough to try to make one
GC x Skunky D - Day 58
Here is my favorite pheno ready to come down. She started with a nice mix of Skunky D funk and GC astringent but at around day 40, was mostly really sharp sour (think Sour D's lime smell) and I was bummed out. She then started funking up again around day 50 and has resettled with a mix of the skunk funk (burnt rubber/hot asphalt/rot) and sharp sour spray. Chem D does this same type of smell progression: starts generically funky, mid bloom starts to smell like dirty diapers, then finishes out with a more garlicky chem funk. I just hope this skunk bouquet sticks around after the dry/cure.

The other observables are solid "skunk" traits I wanted (narrower leaves, high calyx:leaf ratio, quick finishing, better humidity tolerance, double leaf serration, taller apical cola and mid height side branch structure). If the smell stays true, she'll be a great Skunk #1 that actually smells like the stinky skunks you expect when you pop skunk seeds. There's no "sweet" to her and I'd like it to stay that way.

The Skunky D line is great for straight offensive garbage/rot skunks, but this line adds that sharp sour punch that smells like a skunk's spray. I'm hesitant to declare this a Roadkill Skunk because of the almost too good to be true legends that are associated with that name, but this has been the closest population of plants I've grown to actually resemble the descriptions of an RKS. Almost every other skunk I've grown from other sources ends sweet. I'm immediately popping her F2 seeds to find a male and most likely going the BX route to work this line.
The phenos which leaned to the GC all "look" done (browned stigma) while the Skunky D leaners keep pushing fresh stigma. The Skunky D leaners have amber trichomes under the scope but look like they could flower for as long you want to take her (just like Chem D). The Skunky D father performed similarly in the (Giesel x Skunky D) cross that @CoB_nUt grew out.

Nailing the Skunk #1(really the Skunk #2 line that was deemed too smelly and dropped for the Skunk #1) has been my main goal thus far. All of the different things you've seen from me so far were R&D for skunk inputs to get to this point. There was such a differential between the description and memories you'll read concerning what RKS-type skunks "should" be and the skunks you get when you run through all of the old-school skunks (SSSC Skunk #1, Sensi Skunk#1, Mr Nice Shit, The Pure, etc.) that I had to work on making ingredients to get a skunk that consistently stinks like a skunk's spray without losing the traits of a Skunk #1.

The prevailing opinion is that the RKS is really just an afghani that smells like a dead skunk, not that the RKS is necessarily a skunk by genetics. Skunk being (Afghan x Mexico x Columbian) probably had early phenos that carried the afghani's nose but was selected against for reasons you described above. I love skunks for the traits listed in my quoted post with a sativa-dom effect (60:40) but also enjoy really offensive smelling plants. I know Bodhi has an afghan that stinks (Artifact #1 - used in Deep Line Alchemy #5) but I want the RKS stink on a skunk plant. I figured if everyone is looking for it through all these guys' collective access and seed vaults while still coming up short means that RKS is either lost to time or is a misappropriated monicker for something else (Afghan or ?). If we can all agree on the traits that make up an RKS and realize that we'll probably be able to breed one before you'll be able to stumble on it through a pheno hunt, why not go for it?

I also have plans to try to recreate an indica strain that is not nearly as well-known as RKS called "The Rapture" or "The Kill" described by Bob Hemphill as the strongest head-masher he's ever tried. He says it was hoarded closely through the '90s and is most likely gone. I recently shored up the last seeds I need to start it, but just waiting for some room to get to it.

So where is the cart to put these in?!
It's not at that point yet. The pheno in the post will be coming down tonight and the seeds from the single branch pollination (used a male to pollinate a single branch of every pheno to have F2 seeds ready to go at harvest) will be popped to find a male to BX using this female to lock down the stink.

Something to consider is environmental factors in grows. What lights and nutrients were used? Plants will express different traits and terps with different lights/temps/nutes, etc. Was RKS grown inside under hid or hps? How were temps controlled? In my limited experience, warmer temps seem to bring out more stink

In the early days greenhouses were used with light deprivation or black out curtains. It was in the 80's, 82 or 83 when MH came on big. And we started goin indoors.
So i would surmise it was probaly produced with MH and natural light.
Just my opinion of course lol.

Part of what drew me to the Hippy Slayer was rumors of its nasty skunkiness... supposedly this #33 cut was the loudest of the lot, not a true RKS but something Leaning that direction... we'll find out!

I think Schwaggy's breeding endeaver is probably our best bet to see something that carries the traits of a real RKS again. As far as the RKS offerings from most other breeders goes, there's threads on other forums with thousands of replies, pictures and smoke reports... and no ones found it, so I'm not holding my breath... but I'll keep popping seeds and looking
