Community Engagement - Project pHenohunter!
pHenohunting domesticated landrace, and heirloom genetics
Mission:

To build, breed, preserve, learn, discover and collect lines of domesticated landrace/heirloom varieties for breeders, chuckers, and pHenohunter’s around the world. Taking cultivation back to the “roots”!

Opportunities:

There are going to be many opportunities throughout this project to learn, grow, and read/listen to many diverse thoughts. Different aspects of cannabis horticulture will be discussed that you may, or may not have been exposed to already. Open collaboration, and thoughtful debate will help solidify the most sought-after phenotypes, traits, and structures throughout the genetic lines selected for discovery. Not only that, but the contribution made to the whole cannabis community!

Also, there are other parts of this project where a more advanced understanding of horticulture, and some specific skill sets may be required. We will lean on the breeders and others that the community feels may provide the correct context for the path forward. There will be nothing but open, and honest debate. No drama. Part of this project is about the free flow of thought and ideas, and to grow the knowledge, skills needed for cultivation.

This is just the beginning!

I will be donating 10-15 landrace and heirloom varieties to the community for the start of this project. Some of these have a limited count. Other lines have also been donated by forum members also. Shout outs to: Phylex, SCjedi, GCG, Gentlemancorpse, and I know I am missing others, and when I remember I will call you out too. Donations are always accepted to add to the pHenohunter playbook. At some point a pHenoMeister will maintain the pH bean stock. Once stock from preservation runs are at a healthy level, these varieties will be available for a pHeno Run! Chuckers will document phenotypes, and traits according to the variety selected to be ran. Some lines have 5 beans or less, and may be more difficult to preserve. In those cases, members who are known to possess, and exhibit the skills necessary to increase that success rate will be chosen, if they are interested. Popping all the beans provided will be required to preserve genetic diversity.

Basic Chucker Requirements
  • Germination of the whole pack
  • Deal with longer flowering schedules
  • Space, area and time to run open pollination if possible
  • Able to sex and flower a plant
  • Understanding of single branch pollination/open pollination
  • Able to collect, and store pollen
  • Able to pollinate female flowers in creation of F2’s
  • Successfully separate seed for stock from material.
Current Project Status:

@Deebs
Will cuts of every bean be required to eliminate loses?
That would definitely be nice! I have worked through some of the logistics, but not all, and would like to maintain the highest genetic diversity possible.
We will discuss items like this as a community, throughout the project also. Excellent question @Skunky Dunk Farms

Should be ? Wondering about la pure from hazeman also .
I would not be adverse to adding other opportunities to the list.

My growing up was polluted with bales and kilos through Tijuana and vets bringing the mid and far east varieties.
Some good, some bad but more than often great!
I joke with my kids that i havent been "stoned" since the 80's bit i really kinda mean it.
The highs from most varieties ive tried, the new and famous ones, are really kind of a blur.
They all have some nice points but none seem to quite come close to say an old Thai or red Columbian.
Anywho, lets do this team!
Lets journey back to those "the Emperor Wears No Clothes" days!

This is absolutely awesome @Deebs. It represents the core of pHenohunter, as we are all ultimately searching for the best of cannabis, and this project has an emphasis on the roots of the genetics that are available today. It has been a challenge to find modern strains that can replicate that magical high from yesteryear. A collective effort (strength in numbers) will help us find and preserve these forgotten gems for generations to come. Don't get me wrong - newer strain lines such as cookies and cakes are great in their own right. However, many are short lived in the high dept. Let's bring it back to the days where we can smoke one joint and be (almost psychedelically) high for hours (or keep smoking joints and keep getting higher ['no-ceiling']). Share that experience with the cannabis community.

Very well said. It's interesting to see that some of these modern "elite cuts" have that "BAM" factor in bag appeal, smell, taste, etc but the high is very short lived, and not "well rounded" if you will.

Love everything about this project! Hopefully I'll be able to contribute some preservation runs down the road....need a little more confidence in my breeding and chucking skills first haha... I am getting setup to dedicate an entire tent to breeding and hunting instead of producing though so I'll be working on it!

You must always produce while breeding!
