Trouble in WillieP's World...

Thanks for your input, I appreciate it.
Tap is a no-go. 550-750 PPM
Using PH down to try and keep the PH within reason.
Good point on the hand watering. I will hold on to that as a last ditch effort.
I have the pool shock and Microbe lift on order. I am hopeful that going to a sterile res will clear thing up for me.
Fortunately the plant doesn’t look bad yet, it’s just that the res looks horrible.
Cheers, WillieP
Until you get rid of those gnats my guess is you'll be battling pH issues. Just keep on it. Best wishes for fixing this quickly.

Thank you Ma'am!!
These PH swings are CRAZY!!
It will go from 5.4 to 7.3 overnight. Like in less than 12 hours.

Right now I'm in a waiting game with Amazon prime. Lol
I will do another res change and Neem treatment this evening.
For now those are the only bullets in my gun.

It's fortunate that my plant doesn't seem to be all that affected from all this. At least it doesn't seem to be as stressed as I am.

Nice to see you over here. I appreciate your efforts to help!!

So I got to thinking about the statement I made earlier...

"Right now I'm in a waiting game with Amazon prime. Lol

Not really true.
I don't have pool shock yet, but I do have regular liquid bleach.
So yesterday, when I did a reservoir change, I started with that. Dosed at a rate of 8 ml for a 9 gallon reservoir.
PH still went from 5.4 to 6.6 overnight.
Reservoir still has odd smell, sorta aquarium mixed with cabbage.
I chose to dose at the same rate again this morning.
The plant still seems to be doing fine.

Words of wisdom welcome as always,

Hey Gang.
I received my Amazon package and I am of the hopes to get things turned around shortly.
First time using the Microbe Lift BMC (to be honest, I'd never even heard of it)
So the directions say to treat 100 gallons with 6 drops.
That would make a dose for 10 gallons .6 drops. I'm guessing that 1 drop per 10 gallons is OK, Correct?
Now the question is, how often do I treat it? The instructions say weekly, but that is for a fish pond.
Daily, every other day, weekly...???
And how long to treat? Just till gnats are gone, or do I need to treat longer just in case?
As mentioned, I have a bacterial infection as well, and need to get this gnat thing under control before I can go sterile with the pool shock.

Sorry for the Zillion questions, but I am pretty clueless on these two topics.
Thanks in advance,
WillieP

@WillieP I use it as part of my IMP once a week in coco. I usually do 5-6 drops per gallon. I have gone as high as 10 drops per gallon with no ill effects on the plants. I make the mix 24 hours in advance and make enough to do a good media drench. I also use mosquito bits mixed into media surface as well as yellow sticky traps. My last couple rounds have been gnat free FINALLY!

Thanks Capt. C,
I will up the dosage to get on top of this.
I think the fact that I am running a reservoir is going to be a bit different than your system.
I want to rid myself of the gnats and then go to a sterile reservoir with pool shock.
This is an either or situation from what I understand. The pool shock will also kill the bacteria that is killing the gnats.
Going to need to do one and then follow it with the other.
I appreciate your chiming in,
WillieP

So they say confession is good for the soul, at least that's what I've heard...
I've been fighting with trying to gain control of this current grow.
Fungus gnats, bacterial infection, PH swings, stunted growth, yellowing of leaves, ect...
I have brought home the new 1968 clone, and in the last couple of day things have really went south.

I chose to add the pool shock, made a base solution of 5 grams per gallon, and added to the reservoir at a rate of 5 ml per gallon. Hoping that this would turn things around for me.
Today she looks LOTS worse, not even going to post a picture.
So at this point I chose to flush with tap water, in case I had some sort of salt build up.
Drain the reservoir, added 5 gallons of tap and started to flood repeatedly...then I remember that I didn't PH the tap water.
I grab my trusty PH pen and measured my tap water...10.2 PH...WTF!!
Yeah, I was freaking...
I have very high TDS tap water, like 600 PPM, but my PH always runs about 7.0, so now I have no clue what is going on.
Eventually the light bulb comes on, and I calibrate the PH pen.
After calibration the tap water is measuring 7.2.
So all the PH down I have been using has been for not.
The PH pen was measuring 3.0 points high, so if I was getting a 6.8 reading in the reservoir and then adjusting to 5.6, I was really taking it down to 2.6. No wonder both my plants look so bad.

I did a reservoir change on the Durban Poison that is at day 16 of flower, and I am letting the 1968 plant in veg flush with PH'd tap water overnight as my RO tank re-fills. I will change the reservoir on it tomorrow.

Long winded way of saying that WillieP is a dumbass sometimes.
And don't forget to calibrate your PH pens kids.

Hoping to see things turn around soon,
WillieP

A calibrated pH pen works wonders ;)
These plants are very resillient and forgiving. She'll be back to pretty in no time.
Thanks Red!!
As long as I didn't damage the roots to badly I am optimistic for a full recovery, time will tell.
Hopefully this is a life/growing lesson learned, and I won't make this mistake again.
I know I'll make many more, just hopefully not this one.
Thanks for your support,
WillieP
