Mushroom Cultivation

i was definitely getting nervous man. this flush isn't going to be that great as i let the logs dry out, so they didn't colonize as well as I'd hoped. I'll be soaking them overnight this weekend in hopes that colonization will pick up, but my hopes are pretty minimal on that front.

On that note, I'd recommend soaking yours too. IIRC, resaturating the logs triggers fruiting in some cases, and should yield bigger fruit bodies. Don't take my word for it though, this is my first attempt with this style of cultivation.
Sounds about right on rehydrating. That's too cool, I'm going to have get in on some of this stuff. It would be awesome to be able to go out back and pick some mushrooms to go with dinner.

Based on your suggestion we put the logs in the baby pool to soak. No Pins...:( hopefully something comes in...if not...the virtue of patience i do possess....cant wait until spring!

Any more popping on your logs?

A few, I need to go back out there and check. since this weekend is supposed to be a four day weekend, i think i'll probably get them in a bath too. the year's harvest may not be the best unfortunately. might've botched this round. we'll see.

These are from the Costa Rica prints that I got from inoculate the west. I don't remember what they're supposed to look like but I'm thinking this isn't it lol. I was trying a different lighting technique that I'm thinking had these things looking for direction. I'll try to straighten it out with proper lighting on the next flush. But ime I've never seen a tub turn around from things like this, I'll turn it into a little science project over here and update as I go.

Looks like too high of CO2 in the fruiting chamber. The stems will stretch out and get that wavy texture to them without adequate air exchange. Mushrooms don't require a ton of light, just enough to trigger fruiting. Blue spectrum is optimum, but just a cheap blue light bulb from the dollar store should be adequate.

Lol I have 6 holes in that tub with pollyfil and fan 3-4 times a day. It's a light issue. They're just wandering wherever in the tub, most are curling down towards the sub. I have tons of proper lighting, just tried something to see if it would work.

Hey mac, alot of the Costa Rican pics ive seen, many were leggy! Ive always wondered about the curling to the sub myself

Could that just also be in the genetics? My first impression was also increase FAE.. Is it your normal sub? Have you changed any other variables from your other runs?

@Deebs No man I changed up some ventilation in my pot grow to where I'm not having to use a/c while it's cold out. Anyway that led me to trying to see if I could put these tubs that are fruiting in the ambient glow across the room. I mean it's super dim, but thought it might work out. I have them under some good blue light now. Been trying to cut the electric bill. I kinda walked into a shitty situation on that. My landlord pays the bill, it's included in my rent. But she mentioned it was kinda high lol. I told her I would give her extra cash to make up for it. Her reply was that I should just try to control electric usage, didn't want the money. I only have three grow lights going and they're all dimmed. Just trying to fly under the radar ya know lol.

I see what you guys are seeing, the fuzzy feet? Idk shouldn't be a co2 issue, holes galore and fanning. Could be, I was more concerned with how leggy and curly they were growing. Seemed like they were all curling towards the sub or ambient light.

I really can't stake much claim to knowing a lot about playing with mushroom genetics. But I've taken Doc's blue mag white cap isolation and further isolated it. Really all I'm doing is cloning the biggest fruits that pop out of a flush. Definitely getting bigger fruits more consistently though, pretty cool seeing that transformation happen from run to run.

Hey All,
I've just spent the last few days reading through this thread, and have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it!
I studied up on growing fungi a while back, I just haven't pulled the trigger on it yet. I'm really interested in it, it is on my someday list.
Maybe if I started with edibles, I could get that past the Mrs. and then start the cubes afterwards.
Anyway, great thread, and keep up the good work!
Cheers,
WillieP
