What's for dinner tonight?

Homemade tomato soup using the broth/drippings from the boston butt i cooked a while back. There's a lot of the same ingredients in this as last night's dinner, yet the flavors are their own. The wife opted for a dinner roll to go with hers, I wanted grilled cheese lol

My girl just made Duck Breasts L'Orange with mashed potatoes, we're on that Hello Fresh service, it wasn't all that fancy, but it was damn good duck, I was surprised.

We have been hit or miss with sun basket. At first we were 3/3 yeah I'd eat that again, lately its 1/3 at best. Hows the staying power with hello fresh?

Over the last few years we have subscribed to Blue Apron, Sun Basket, Hello Fresh and some other service I forget the name of. Hello Fresh is just barely winning, but sometimes benefits from extra sides like a crusty loaf of bread, tortilla chips, things like that. Sun Basket had some good ideas and sometimes their recipes were great, but they had an occasional crap recipe or iffy produce sometimes, it felt a little too pricey for what it ended up being. The premium recipes from HF are legit, but it's not like it's a lot better. It's a little bit better, overall. Sometimes they screw up and do stuff like give you way too many carrots, they forgot a Roma tomato once, but generally it is pretty solid.

I started smoking ribs around 7 this morning, the herb followed not too long after lol. Put a good rub on them and hit them with a spritz of apple juice/cider vinegar every 30 min or so. Sauced them up at the end and we're having buttery cheesy asparagus, deviled egg potato salad, and cheesy Texas toast. Uh huh, uh huh ✌

Pork Shoulder in the instant pot with the slow cooker BBQ pork butt stuff.

Cole Slaw and Fries to round it off.

The big loaf is for my daughter in law who should be over soon to get the grandkids presents and open em up.

After tonight at midnight we are on lockdown for a month. I am going to have to order more flour that is for sure.

Last batch of bread turned out like shiz....got all cocky and forgot the basics...and the damned olive oil.

This batch, first proof was 6 hours, 2nd proof in the pans for 90 minutes. Looks perfect to me !

I love fresh baked bread. I would get fat if it was around me all the time.

Usually, every year our Christmas eve consists of a feast of various Italian American dishes with my extended family. This year for obvious reasons it's just the immediate fam, so we trimmed down the number of courses... Meatballs, hot and sweet sausage and short ribs braised in red gravy. Got a tray of zucchini parm in the freezer that will be coming out as well

I have Italian in-laws, same but usually on Thanksgiving. They make Italian food in a way I've never had before though, good stuff.
