Vacuum sealing your weed?

So I hear alot of folks like to vacuum seal their buds for long term storage, smell etc.
Looking to pick one up, but there's a shit ton of em out there. Be nice to stay in the hundo range or so.

What brands are y'all using and what do you like about them? ???

I'd be using it for the kitchen as well though too, not just weed, if that makes a difference on any recommendations.

Jesse make sure you get one that you can control the amount of air removed from the bag. I had one that i tried several years ago and it somewhat crushed the bud. The one i had did not stop until all of the air was removed. I left it vacuumed for about 2 weeks maybe less and the bud were so crushed that they did not rebound and stayed somewhat crushed. I know harvester makes a good unit but a think they are a couple hundred bucks.

Used these for years. Absolutely love it. Mine was originally for game, and the wife, it acquired other tasks.

Foodsaver was a little more expensive, but it has some pyrex containers that allowed you to pull vacuum. 100's lb of items have been sealed: herbs, deer, elk, moose, goose, duck, kaffir lime leaves i harvest also every year, you name it. I tried the vacuum once for other processes but then got concerned due to no cold trap ><

I do take most air out of these: thought about pressing for pure kaffir oil..same with the lavendar I have saved.

I vacuum sealed for years with a Foodsaver until I visited commercial grower friends in Humboldt. Their methods for packaging for shipping made sense. They were using 5 ml mylar bags but not vacuuming, just squeezing out most air. The idea is to leave enough air to cushion the buds. The buds stay intact that way. Totally vacuumed sealed they tend to break up. Course they were shipping large amounts. An added advantage that it is not some kind of plastic.

I adapted for home use & have been packing that way for a couple years now. You can get the Mylar bags in many sizes, some with zip tops. I am using my Foodsaver to seal the 5 ML which they say won’t work but if you repeatedly hit the same spot it works great. Plus one on the Foodsaver.

For me Mylar has mostly replaced glass jars. Space being a prime factor as well. I no longer have a full closet of jars. Nice that I can open a Mylar, take out a jar’s worth & reseal. Also opaque so no light degradation. Smell proof too. I have some pound sized Mylar bags that are 7 ML, too thick for the Foodsaver but i can seal it with a hair straightener.

Good info right there. ???
For those Mylar bags do you have a good place that's cost effective?
I'm sure Amazon has em, but maybe you've got a better spot?

So I jumped the gun, and just picked up some from here:
USA Emergency Supply
I figured we can also use these for dehydrated foods after the harvest right comes in. They even have oxygen absorbers I was wondering about.

I never really considered the oxygen absorbers, good idea. That site looks good.

So far I mostly bought on Amazon, it took me a couple years to get convinced. I mostly have bought the larger ones & cut them to size. I have some of the zip lock ones too, they work well if you don''t open them a lot but the plastic zips seem to break loose from the mylar at some point. When I got there I just cut off the zip & heat seal it.

I can fit a whole summer crop in a couple large igloo coolers, with our humidity swings the cooler insulation is a big help.

Mylar conceals the smell so dang well. I had an extra stinky Skunky VA that just reeked. Once sealed a human could not smell it. A real treat for the senses when you open it. I made sure I had a couple friends close by to watch reactions. :D

Watch the thickness of the bags when ordering. As I said I could not heat seal the super thick 7 ML bags with a Foodsaver but a hair straightener did the trick.

Right on for both of ya. ???
Thanks for the feedback on that. Much appreciated. Good to hear such things before I go buy some stuff.

So I'm glad I read this thread as @Capt. C and his experience is similar to mine. Believe it or not my mom did it. I had stopped by her house and had like an ounce on me. Went to split it with a friend and my mom was like hey, let me seal that for you with my new toy so if you get pulled over the cops won't smell it. I'm not telling my mom she can't vacuum seal my weed so she does. I went from a half ounce to what looked like a dub. Didn't even break up into a larger amount. So now i know the trick to it. Some of this helps to show it is possible if you do it right.

mylar or vac seal bags do a wonderful cure. Leave space in the bag so you dont squeeze them down to kief. Sometimes i ziplock them in a medium bag and then vac seal a few of those together in a giant bag. This protects the buds from turning into cubes of hash :D

I opened one that was 3 months old and it was wonderful (wedding Dub)

Foodsavers are great. IF you leave thebag a little big you can use it over and over with the vac sealer.

I also do 1 oz mylar bags in a vac seal bag. Same idea.

I bought some Grove Bags for the first time. The reviews are pretty consistently good with the negative comments coming from people who have never used them. I also heat sealed them, like recommended. I put my buds that were dried to 62% in them May 14, and I'm just waiting it out while they cure. Ive always used jars before, and I've experimented with Boveda too. I thought I'd try something new, and the cost was minimal. I have a drug test for work coming up and I haven't even had a puff since April 1, so I'm anxious to try them out. Ill report back once Ive sampled my stash of HAOG x Chocolate Diesel and Grape OG x Chocolate Diesel.

I love my seal a meal for LONG term storeage. I cure in my wide mouth jars, for a few months. Then to free up jars, if I got extra, I'll seal up the cured bud, and into the freezer it goes.
I found much cheaper rolls of bag material over on Uline, for WAY cheaper then the brand named rolls of bags.
I am NOT slagging the Grove bags at all. I however, have to run my grow as cheaply as possible, for the best results I can conjuror up.
I have eliminated so many *must haves, or must use* grow related items, over my years of doing this. Bare bones best explains it for me.
