Easy fix for Vivosun fans!!

Hey everyone, just wanted to share this with anyone and everyone. As we all know, monkey fans that oscillate are hard to find and expensive. They all suck except, in my humble opinion the secret jardin has always done me well. But they are hard to find and waaaay over priced. Anyway the vivosun ones, aka Amazon, are pieces of shit. I have three dead ones. Well, HAD, three dead ones. Turns out it's a design flaw more than a serious quality issue. Really quickly at the knuckle, where you can adjust the pitch, inside they tied the cord in a knot. That knot is where your problem is. Three screws, and wire strippers will get you there with ease. So go ahead and save a few bucks and headaches looking for an oscillating monkey fan for your tent. Go ahead and get the piece of crap vivosun one and when it dies, because it will, sometimes quickly sometimes slowly, but it will die. The fix is super easy. I know I wish I would have seen this post a long time ago, so I felt I had to put it out there for you guys and gals. Take care, be safe, and love. Love as much as you can. We need it. Peace out you silly bastards!!

I meant to add, im actually in the middle of fixing those three I have. So I know I made that pretty quick. Feel free to hit me up for more detailed instructions on the fix. I will return and post it with pics when I get a chance. So probably a while from now if I'm being honest haha. Take care. Hit me up.

Fucking awesome ! Ty?
Yeah, i really wish I still had the three or four still that I pitched. I started a collection at one point from friends and family etc. Basically the hot gets crimped and basically shorts out. Fix the short on the one line and untie that damn knot. Look at it correctly and you don't have to undo the wiring to untie the knot. You'll see. It can be done if you feed enough slack through. Super easy fix, fans have been running fine since. Hell, replace the cord with something beefier maybe if you have any laying around.

Hey man, come back with that detailed fix. I bought 4 one stopped oscillating in a month. I bitched and sent them a vid and they sent me a new one. I'd like to fix the broken one as well as any future breaks. Aside from that the fans are OK and fine for the price point. They are all HIGH! lol

Stardate 2021 and a second fan has stopped oscillating. Fans work but don't turn. I sent them an email, we'll see what they'll do about it.
Good luck. Theyve told me to kick rocks now, basically everytime. You need to provide a purchase date and they weigh it against their return policy. Good luck to you, I hope they work with you, if not, hit me up and I can help you to get it back up and running.

Lol....believe it or not, do you know how I get stuck fans going again?

I dunk them in near boiling hot water. Not kidding. I unplug it first.....obviously lol........disassemble the cage, and seperate the motor, removing as much of the electrical assembly I reasonably can, then just dunk it in raging hot water and work the blade back and forth. I've saved four fans now that I thought were toast and gummed right up. I dunked them, worked them, shake them out and hang them (the raging hot water helps it dry quicker) then used a heat gun on low to finish them off after hanging for an hr or so. The electrical coil asembly can take the heat so I just make sure to warm it up real good and it evaporates all the water from inside. Then a little squirt of oil down the shaft, work it a bit and voila......back to brand new. I just let it sit over night in the warm room for one 24 hrs and they're good to go the next lights-on cycle.

It takes a little time with the hang drying and using the heat gun to dry it out good, but I figure I've saved a couple hundred bucks, and I've and avoided the inconvenience of having to hunt new ones down. I imagine they may eventually shit the bed, maybe rusty contacts or whatever, but a couple have been going solid for many months now since their dunking and are making no noise and seem to be just like new.

Preparing for "you're nuts" replies lol.....but no kidding it works. Just be smart and make sure to dry it real well.

I bet if you used a can of electric contact cleaner on the fan...I have 2 that are in really rough shape i will give it a go when it warms up enough to come out of the can.

I do believe contact cleaner is denatured alcohol? It is one of those smells...man i love it.

First response to latest problem the guy says " I will certainly take care for u" :) I hope that's true and good service if so. If not, I did spend an extra $2 per fan for the square trade warrantee. That's well worth it, with free shipping both ways and refunded purchase price if'n they can't fix it. I'll let the factory do their thing first ;)

My fans all run fine, very quiet, and are newish........not gunked up. What's failing is the side to side movement..... the oscillation. I'm thinking there's a plastic gear in there somewhere that can't hold up. I have not dismantled yet to see.
Without the oscillation they are no better than these cheapo's from amazon......they were 12 bucks now 15 and the vivosuns were $28

Exactly haha! But hey. The oscillation was broke, and then the fan also stopped spinning. So I'm like "well, I can't really mess it up anymore, what the hell, let's see what happens" lol!
Couldn't believe how well it worked. I just imagine how many fans I've tossed over the years because they "seized up".

They are mailing me another replacement fan. This time they did offer me a choice of a refund as well. I took the new fan.

I figure it's a stripped plastic gear that is the culprit here.

key after throwing so many fans away

get the all metal oscillating version

hurricane pro commerical is soo much better than hurricane pro

why? All metal oscillation vs plastic or partial plastic. Another tip when installing the fan try to have the fan base as balanced as possible or it will def wear em out quicker
