A little update since the last debacle.
I started a few new things.
Some Black Triangle f2, Peach Hashplant, Blue Sunshine, Tashkurgan, BTf2 #28 x Kashmir #5 and some Mazar/BT #6 x Kashmir #5.

You can see some of the containers look empty. That's because there were 2 separate drop dates and those seeds were just planted. 12-3-20 and 12-15-20. The second drop was to fill the space from the ones that didn't make it on the first drop. 12 days apart wont mean so much in 6 -8 weeks.
20201218_235734.jpg
Some of the leaves are a bit wrinkly. Probably from fluctuations in humidity. The room is on passive air from outside. It's cold and when the air enters the room it quickly heats up relatively dropping the humidity. I also turned off the humidifier off for a few days to speed up the drying of the soil. There were some signs of damping off. Moisture management is a dance with a fungal rich soil. Especially with babies.

The arbor is doing well. A little fluctuation in humidity. I had the light a little close for a couple days too. And I didn't give the soil time to rest before planting into it. So the pH could be shifting a bit. But everything considered they look alright.

They had an EWC extract/ aloe solution watered in the other day.
They were 25 days since the seeds got wet as of yesterday. When these photos were taken.

Greetings to everyone at pH and beyond. I hope you and yours are well lit and making it a good one!

1-28-20, 56 days from the soak. A top dressing of worm castings was applied. 1 cubic foot of castings that started as leaf mold was worked over for 2+ years by red worms. It was mixed with 1/2 cup of mealworm frass and 1/2 cup of kelp meal. Each plant bag was topped with 2 cups of the casting mix. A little cover crop of mixed greens (arugula, broccoli, mustards and radish) was sown also. This was watered in well using rain water from a pump sprayer.

1-29-21, 57 days from the soak. All the plants were examined for gender. Most but not all are showing enough to be sure. There are a few potential ladies I labeled (F?). A few potential males labeled (M?). Means the shape of the sexual organ looks female or male but without pistils or being too small to be 100% sure.

1-30-21, 22 cubic feet of recycled soil was amended for the upcoming flower run. The following amendments were added per cubic foot.
  • 1/2 cup Kelp meal.
  • 1/2 cup Mealworm frass.
  • 1/4 cup Alfalfa pellets ground to a fine dust in a blender.
  • 1/4 cup Freeze dried crab meat, powdered. Human grade. Contains 34% phosphorus. Sourced from a restaurant that was throwing it out due to being out of date.
  • 1/8 cup Crustacean meal.
  • 1/8 cup Neem meal.
  • 1/8 cup Gypsum, prilled.
  • 1/2 cup Bio char, ground to a fine dust in a blender. A mix of Fir and Oak from the wood stove.
Photos from 1-31-21. The tops of the plants are a little mangled from me doing another gender check. A few plants look a bit ragged from a really hot initial mix. All the plants were replanted into a different mix from recycled soil from the last flower run. They seem to be responding well since.

Blue Sunshine, #1F, #2?, #4M* (he was kept for a potential pollen donor.), #5F, #6M, #7F, #8M. The numbers 6 and 8 males were culled. The #4 male is top left. The larger plants were topped after this photo.
20210131_232657.jpg

Peach Hashplant, #2M?, #3F, #4F?, #5F, #6M, #7F, #8F, #9F, #10F, #11F, #11F. Lots of ladies in this bunch. Lots of A-semetrical growth and lots of peach scented plants too.
20210131_235617.jpg

Tashkurgan, #1M, #2?, #3F, #4F?, #5M*, #6M*, #9M?, #10F?. The number 5 and 6 males were kept for a future reproduction. Those are the larger 2 plants top left...strong berry scents. The rest of the males will be culled. There are 2 more packs of these in the fridge waiting for the right time. I'd like to do an outdoor ascension here at 46.5* north latitude.
20210201_003849.jpg

Mazar/Black Triangle x Kashmir Azad,
#1?, #2?, #3M, #4?, #5?, #6F?, #7?. These beans were soaked 12 days after the first batch. So they are a little behind. These are testers for potential release.
20210201_010558.jpg

Black Triangle f2 #28 x Kashmir Azad.
#1?, #2M, #3F?, #4?, #5?, #6F?, #7?, #8?, #10?, #11?. The 7 smaller plants were soaked 12 days after the first batch. The males will be culled. These are testers for potential release.

I appreciate the encouraging words brother.

Hopefully this run will be sorted and I can get another batch of beans soaked before the summer season. I'm going to sift through a bunch of Black Triangle f2 for potential F3 candidates. I'll select the best plants from this and the next batch of beans to go outside. Along with a choice male. Still looking for him.

Greetings everyone, I hope you're all staying warm. Its been a blizzard here for the last 4 days.
...Somewhere in the middle of a dream...
20210213_110917.jpg

2/11/21, An EWC solution was watered in to the soil.
  • 2 cup of castings.
  • 5 gallons of filtered well water.
The castings were smeared between my hands in the water. With the intention of dislodging as many microbes from the matrix as possible. Some may be destroyed from that. But its all fodder in the end. It's stirred well between each cup full as it was watered in. It was not strained.

2/14/21, All the plants were transplanted into their final 5 gallon bags. The flower room was cleaned thoroughly before everyone was moved in. The photo period was reduced to 17on/7off. The photo period will be flipped when the plants hit their growth spurt from the new containers. I'm hoping within 10 days or so.
The bags were staged the night before.

Sorry for the yellow hue. I'll try to get the next set of plant photos right after the light go out.

2/15/21, Going to sow some micro greens tonight. Maybe get a salads worth before the canopy smothers them from light. Give everyone a good watering. Pinch some stems to promote lateral branching as needed and try to regulate their height. I need copies of everyone before the flip.

The door was left open a little while I was carrying fire wood inside. This little guy found his way in too. I went to grab him with a towel but he hopped right on. He was standing on my finger for a bit when I took him back outside but I didn't have my phone. By the time I carried him back in to get it he went back on the towel. He stood staring at me for a bit before he flew off.

Hello little guy!

Is a really good photo !

Warm and cozy, softly-rounded and familiar-edged monochromes as the subject, I see contrasting monochromatic stark-harsh and geometrical hardlines in the background.

So,,,, there is this uninviting harsh and unfeeling Arctic in the background whereas the foreground is endearing and wholesome.

Appreciating art involves allowing myself to accept my emotional reactions that are invoked by the work.

Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed the photo and the emotional invocation.

The intention was to capture the image for my daughter. It was taken with an older cellphone cam. I'm not an educated photographer. But I do appreciate quality images. I'm happy it turned out that nice.

That bird had every chance to fly off. It just stood there staring at me. I was talking to it softly. Saying "I dont want to hurt you. Just want to help you back outside. You'll be fine, dont worry."

Sometimes we're fortunate. This was one of those times.

A few images of the plants. They are in the middle of 36 hours of darkness at the moment. Before they go to 12/12.

The plants responded well to the new shoes. I like to follow their growth spurt into bloom.

We'll see how the soil mix performs over the next 8 - 10 weeks. It feels good so far.

This is right before the lights came on the last day of veg. I took copies of everyone and trimmed up under their skirts a little while I was there. These photos were captured before the copies were taken and the trim.

This is a Mazar/Black Triangle x Kashmir. I dare say some have a skunky scent. Not a true road kill skunk. But skunky for sure. She and her sisters are 12 days younger then the rest.

Love your vibe, picked up some Kashmir Azad, seemed like the best for indoor?
I got the Mazari #4 for the bonus, disclaimer for indoors.
Thought I would pass that on to someone that takes pictures standing on a 6’ ladder.
Unless BH has a spray for choppers?
Right on thank you, glad you dig it!

Yes, the Kashmir Azad did very well inside. They do well outside too. I ran 10 females and 5 males in the preservation.

The males were stressed tested to a little past 9 weeks. No signs of intersex.

3 of the females put out a couple late season anthers. I didn't see any pollen from them. Either way the seeds wouldn't mature over the final 2 weeks. One after 80 days, another after 90 days and the third after 92 days. 7 females ran to 98+ days with zero issues.

Every seed was hand selected. There are 2 separate packs. One pack with 15 seeds from the 7 plants that didn't express any anthers. Another pack with 5 seeds from the 3 plants the did express late season anthers. Both packs have an extra. I did this to preserve as much genetic diversity as possible. Considering all the Kashmir plants I saw were finished by day 70. Those potential anther seeds are just as valuable. Not many are going to push them 20 days past being ripe. My buddy ran 50 plants to 80 days to try to shake any issues out and found zero hermaphrodites.

There are lots of nice expressions in that stock. If you have any issues please feel free to tell me about it. I'll cover any seeds that dont germinate for any reason.

All the Mazar I ran inside expressed anthers by day 70. A couple put out full male flowers. Those were culled. So I recommended them for greenhouse or outdoor just to be safe. No seeds were found when I chopped them indoors at 75 days.

A couple more generations indoors selecting away from hermaphroditic traits and it will be a solid indoor line.

The Mazar preservation was done outside under full weather in the PNW at 46* north latitude. With a rainy and cold late season.

The five females listed withstood 3 consecutive days and nights of hard freezing temperatures. When I got back to the patch everything was bone dead except those 5 plants were standing tall with absolutely no problems. No intersex was expressed outside from any of the plants. None of the plants had mold or any pest infestations. Any males that put out early season flowers were culled before they opened. The plants grow large and fragrant. A wide range of expressions can still be found in that stock. They were harvested November 7th.

If your buddy gets around to growing them I'd love to see any photos. They will get big outside, especially with love and attention. There were big and fragrant inside too.

How is everyone on this fine March day. Hope all your bowls are full of the good stuff!

2/27/21, On day 1 a teaspoon of mealworm frass was dusted around the surface of all the containers. It was watered in well afterwards.

3/5/21, Yesterday, day 8 of bloom. A kale leaf stem stock was sprayed on all the plants. About 2 cups of kale stems were simmered for about 24 hours. That was reduced to 2 cups. That was mixed with more rain water to make about 3/4 of a gallon. It was sprayed underneath and on top of the plants. I try not to waste anything. I ate the soggy stems afterwards with a little salt...lots of fiber, tasty too! Everything is always sprayed in the dark with the fans off. When the lights came on everyone was trimmed up some more under their skirts.

3/6/21, Here are the plants a few hours before day 9 of bloom.

Here are the copies at day 10.
A peice of fesh aloe leaf was used to dip the stems in before going into the plugs for rooting hormones. Before introducing the copies the plugs were soaked for 20 minutes in rain water adjusted down to 5.4pH using citric acid. The plugs were squeezed a couple times to ensure they were soaked throughout with the pH adjusted water. The next day after the copies perked up they were sprayed well, underneath and on top, with an aloe solution. The flesh of about 1 tablespoon of fresh aloe leaf was scraped into 1 quart of rain water adjusted to 5.6 pH. It was shaken vigorously for a couple minutes. It was strained through a muslin cloth before spraying the copies.

Yesterday the copies were also sprayed with the kale stem stock.

Thanks brother, I appreciate the support.

I dig the plastic bags too. This is the 5th run on them. They conveniently fold down to fit into a paper bag. Storing 24+ five gallon buckets takes up space. The poly is a little thin on these. I think they make them thicker now.

Cheers! This my distant cousin. He's an expert on landrace strains. He's partial to Congolese. Except I can get him to pass that joint. He bogarts that thing all day.

Greetings to the pH family. I hope everyone is smoking the good stuff and is well lit.

A couple updates.

3/8/21, Day 10 of bloom. A cannabis leave tea was sprayed on all the plants, the copies too. All the trimmings collected on 3/5 were soaked in rain water for 3 days. Just enough water to cover them. They were chopped up a bit more first. This was stirred well a few times a day. Then it was strained and sprayed underneath and on top of the plants and a little on the soil surface. Lots of healthy indigenous microbes on those leaves.

The leaves then went into a large cooking pot and were simmered for about 6 hours. The leaves were strained out. The remaining liquid was added to more water to make about 6 gallons of tea. Each plant got about 4 cups of it. 1 teaspoon of micronized gypsum was stirred into each quart of tea before being applied.

3/8/21, 12 days since they were cut. Not lots of roots so far but enough be planted. I like to take 2 - 3 copies of each plant. Then pick the healthiest one for the next generation. All the copies showed two or more roots. Except Blue Sunshine #1 and a Tashkurgan #3 didn't have any yet. A Glomus mycorhizal fungi was lightly dusted on the roots as they were planted.
20210308_180232.jpg
3/13/21, Here's what they look like today. 5 days after being planted. Not much growth so far but they are alive. They were sprayed with the cannabis tea earlier today.
20210313_191411.jpg

3/12/21,
Day 14 of bloom. Two teaspoons of mealworm frass was dusted around the surface of each container. Then it was watered in well.

3/13/21,
Day 15 of bloom. Another cannabis trim tea was made over the last few days. The same process as the last one. It was sprayed underneath and on top of all the plants this morning in the dark. Here's a couple photos captured a few minutes before the lights came on for day 15. The flowers are forming well. Looks like I'll have to start staking over this next week. Get ready to tie them up. Everyone is solid so far but it won't be long. Healthy plants and no bugs, gnats either. I love the omnivorous and carnivorous arthropods. They take care of the pests for me.
