Early flowering?

I have a friend who got gifted a few Harborside clones several weeks ago, a GG4, a few others that I can't remember the names. He doesn't have much grow experience (and in the sense of outdoor, neither do I), but he asked me to take a look. He has them in the ground with a great environment, plenty of sun near a creek (which he uses that same water, no nutes or anything, just the natural soil). I saw them when he first put them in the ground, they were struggling at first, but then they came back hard a couple of weeks later. They're flowering now WTF?? It's just the beginning of the outdoor grow season in my area...and I mean they're flowering to the point where they have stinky budlets. He's excited but it got me to thinking. Are these autoflowers? Or can photoperiod do this? Without knowing more background info I'm a bit dumbfounded, however I do know that the guy he got the clones from is an experienced grower for dispensaries, and I'm assuming (you know what they say when you ASS-ume) that he's mainly worked with photoperiods.

Not a full Outdoor guy myself but I know this happens at times. Something triggered the flowering hormone. Most likely the transplant and being in a new environment. It's still fairly early in spring and as the days get longer she'll most likely re-veg.

Very interesting. So he may see those budlets come through then the weird re-veg growth I’m thinking? He’s got em spread out along different areas. Some spots have more shade but not enough to block the sun from coming through. I didn’t see a difference between the ones with “more sun/less shade” so this should be another fun semi-experiment.

Weed is so pHun.

Chances are that come July he'll be worried about how big they're getting. End up having to grab the ladder just like @GthaEnigma

I've never had it happen but if you set them out to early they will go to flower. Daylight hours are still to short. At least in my neck of the woods.
Weather site shows 13 hr. 7 mi. Daylight and 12 hr. 41 mi. Darkness. I've read how many hours of of daylight is needed to prevent it on most varieties, but can't remember.

The previous comments make a lot of sense certainly if the clones supplied were from indoors under veg/24 lighting...then being transplanted into outdoors where the change in light (longer dark periods in the season still) will trigger flowering. I've moved lighting from 24/0 to 18/6 and had an explosion of "clusters" form on vegging plants just from that miniscule change. As mentioned, I believe hes going to experience reveg as the days get longer. As the plants begin to revert back into veg they will start putting off single blade leaves with little to no serrations.

You are spot on. Bloke growing clones would've had a 24/0 or 16/6
Cycle. Buggers were triggered. They will flower for a few weeks then as light intensity and duration kicks in they will kick into veg. Increasing his nitrogen feeding with a liquid feed will ease with the stretch. Common thing down here with fellas trying to get a head start on outdoor crops.

This is all so fascinating especially personally growing from mostly indoor environments. I’ve grown outdoor but all seed start to finish, and having a longer growing season/climate. I noticed the nitrogen deficiency right away. IDK if the clones were under 24/0. They looked like teenager plants judging on their size and “heartiness” of branches. As I mentioned earlier, his environment is awesome, and he’s gonna be dropping some beans soon, so it’s gonna be a fun time watching what happens with both clones and seeds.

Clones are usually not put out until june 1st. Because they are sexually mature they are very easily triggered by photoperoid. Seed starts can go out as early as late march if they are portable. Mine are out full time already, they won't be sexually mature for about another 35 to 40 days minimum, by then the photoperiod will be deadon for full season veg.

I had a Critical trigger 6 weeks into our outdoor grow season after a week of dark overcast conditions and it had happily grown outdoors for all that period from seed and was approaching 2-3 feet tall when it started to flower then revegged . All the other plants carried on as normal . It was just the one strain . They can be sensitive buggers. Took a good 3 weeks to reset itself

Likely planted too early. I have some flowering outside right now, as well. If he wants to just purely veg, I'd hold off on having them outside full time until at least June.

All great info thanks folks. It was a thing where his friend asked if he wanted em or he’d have to toss em so he put em in the ground a bit before March. Sounds like I gotta drop some beans (in fabric pots) outside very soon. This year I will have both indoor and outdoor so it should be a fun experience.

I’ll be doing Bodhi Strawberry Unicorn and something from Schwaggy, I have several to choose from and they all sound so bomb IDK how I’m gonna choose lol
? that’s the common problem with purchasing a mountain of beans . You end up staring at all these killer strains you wanna try next and humming and harring which to choose . It’s a good but at times expensive problem

To give credit where credit is due - @Schwaggy P has been so generous to provide a variety of his packs for pH related stuff so as a “side effect” I get to choose something to run. I did buy the Strawberry Unicorn though cuz I’ve never ran Bodhi and have always heard great things. I read the posts from @GthaEnigma about the strain and when they were available, I decided to grab them.

common problem......
1) keep them clones inside longer
2) Start from seed in this time frame
3) Try to work your veg so that it is approximating the actual daylight hours at the grow spot

Most of the time the plant figures it out eventually but it can get messy looking for a bit and will probably need pruning. A week of overcast and rainy weather is not your pal either. :)
