A Gentleman's Rolling Paper Revue

I found my papers stash finally. I got a few you haven’t mentioned yet also wanted to know what your opinions are on cones? You think you will broaden this to try different cones. I hate blunts so I could care less about them but I love a good cone or a perfectly rolled jay. Anyway here is what I found. As you can see I love RAW they are my everyday smoke and I smoke damn close to a pack(20) jay&cones a day. I buy the cases of papers and premise tips. But I’m loving this thread and it awoke that age old question I had of which is the best. So I pulled these out and may throw up a review of a couple of that’s ok with you @Gentlemancorpse
Let’s keep this going maybe we can even get some weird packs from different countries or some mom and pop companies like the Briscos ones. I love his seeds and just got a couple packs with my order. So thanks for the heads up on those! Gonna give them a twist here in a few minutes. image.jpg

Not bad pricing for high-traffic retail setting.

@BigPretzel definitely feel free to throw in a few reviews! Would love to hear your opinions on some papers I haven't tried, and even some second opinions on one's I have... I'm certainly not the end all be all guide to rolling papers haha, some of ya'll may hate a paper I love, or love one I hate!

At the moment I haven't thought much about trying different cones and such.... I have a strong affinity for my little spliffs/cones and don't stray far these days... but I do have a few king size papers coming up so we'll see where I go. I actually do enjoy a nice blunt from time to time but my girl hates them and I can't finish one alone anymore so it always seems so wasteful lol

Man I really want to try these Elements I keep hearing about. I may have to grab a pack here tomorrow. I got some element crutches from my monthly weed box subscription but never got any element papers. Love the Johnny walker—Raw analogy hahahaha

it’s funny you say that cause I enjoy only one and it’s Optimo Mango by GAME. It’s just smooth and has that sweet fruity lip smacking flavor on the tip but my girl will take 3 hits and be baked so then I have to smoke EM myself and I can’t I get too high or too light headed from coughing. This dilemma is my main reason for not smoking blunts. Well and they make my weed taste like shit. But mainly because it’s just too much harshness and hassle.

My roach jar has quite a few half smoked blunt roaches just taking up room.

After reading @Gentlemancorpse first rolling paper review I was intrigued to find someone else asking the very same question I was....
For me Once I found Raw classics and the prerolled tips I stopped looking for anything else, but like most people who have had something so repetitively I started to ask if there is better out there. Could there beis it even possible to top Raw?

To start this search for my favorite paper I started out with a recommendation from one of my friends and I also saw someone on this forum mention them.

OCB premium 1 1/4”

The Logo (OCB) on the booklet is actually an acronym for the history of the company.

O-Odet
C-Cascade
B-Bollorè

Originally owned by Bolloré Technologies, The first paper mill was built in Erguè-Gabèric, on the banks of the Odett river in north western France in 1822.

Then in 1893 Bollorè Technologies rented a factory in Cascade which they bought 24 years later to focus on making cigarette papers.

In 1918 the OCB brand was created to reperesent the history and impact the company had on rolling papers.

In 1999 they released the OCB premium line (as pictured above) this is what put the brand OCB on the map with the first ever extra thin rolling paper that was actually semi transparent.

Then in 2000 Don Levin owner of Repubic tobacco and customer of Bollore since the early 60s bought the OCB brand and factory it was produced at. OCB continues to be produced by Repubic tobacco to this day.

I really like the packaging, first off the OCB premium line has 30 different styles of holographic lettering on the front of the booklet which makes it really pop out in the store.

The papers are as they say “ultra” thin, with watermarks all over the place. The papers are made from natural flax plant fibers which allow them to make them the thinnest possible while still being sturdy and slow burning. The glue strip is made of African Aciaia gum and supposed to be tasteless while staying

As for the rolling these are a breeze, very strong and durable all while still super thin. I was worried about ripping it but to my surprise she rolled perfectly and stuck like a fucking champ. Another plus is the OCB premiums come with 50 crutches (one for every paper) that are perforated. Personally I love the perforated crutches because my hard ass fingers have trouble folding that harder paper into an “M” then rolling it. Those little cuts make it so nice.
I couldreally taste the notes and goodness of whatever I rolled up. No burnt off notes I do get the smallest hint of black liquorice though when i dry hit my joint before lighting it, then again the first few nice drags. It wasn’t unpleasant and no one else except me tasted it but As I continued to test these I definitely was tasting black liquorice from the papers not the weed.
My overall experience with these was excellent I went through the whole pack not ripping a single paper or having to trash one. Every single one was rolled and smoked..I mean how often does that actually happen that you don’t waste one?
These OCB premiums burn extremely slow and don’t run at all with a nice tightly rolled doob. You just spark and enjoy like a manufactured cigarette. As for a ranking i only have my preferred papers to compare to right now but I seriously enjoyed these, from the ultra thin slow burning to the extra strong glue hold and proper packaging. These are gonna be up there I feel if didn’t have my preferred paper I would definitely pick up a pack of the OCB premiums. I do want to find out where that black liquorice flavor was coming from though because that was the one thing about them that put these beneath my preferred paper.

Taste:Mild except for that (liquorice)
Glue Hold: Strong
Ease of use: Easy
Cost: US $2.50/pack

Recommendation: I would for sure recommend these to someone that wanted to try a super thin paper. These are honestly the thinnest paper I’ve ever rolled with. But as far as taste I get thrown off by that off note I detected. I have a very sensitive pallet and others didn’t notice it but I had it with every paper I tried if theirs.

Excellent review man! Those OCB have been on my wishlist ever since they were recommended to me by @AlienAthena if I recall correctly, but for some reason I can't find them locally and neither of the online stores I've tried carried them...

Also you roll joints exactly like I do..

So @BigPretzel was kind enough to send a care package of papers my way so I have a whole bunch of new ones to review now!

I started off with these OCB X-Perts 20210502_184758.jpg
20210502_184804.jpg
Right off the bat you can tell these are a high quality paper. Also I like that they include the paper weight on the package. Would be a lot less subjective trying to figure out how thin papers are if they all just told me!

20210502_184817.jpg

The paper has the now nearly ubiquitous branding watermarks. I forgot to take a picture of the actual joint but these rolled very easily, no slippage at all. And the glue holds very, very well. Nice, even slow burn as well.

So far I'm really like these. Probably the closest to the Pay Pays so far in terms of performance and quality.

I have no clever analogies or witticisms this time... these OCB X-Perts are just a great paper. Probably my second favorite after those Pay Pays I keep hyping up.

Excellent burn time, nice and smooth with no runs. Easy to roll, and virtually no paper taste. The glue holds really well too. Just a really nice paper.

Taste: Very Mild
Burn: Slow
Glue: Strong Hold
Ease of Use: Easy
Cost: No idea, it was a gift!

TLDR; Honestly, the actual review was concise enough this time.

So the next papers of the week are these Hempires pure hemp papers, again, courtesy of @BigPretzel...
20210510_222609.jpg 20210510_222614.jpg

These papers are noticeably thicker than the the last few and as such are much less translucent. I'm starting to wonder how much money it costs per paper for the watermarks... 20210510_222626.jpg

20210510_222748.jpg

They actually slip a bit when rolling. The glue works very well though. Overall initial impressions though.... not great. First hit is rather harsh and it maintains a bit of a papery taste throughout. Also canoes pretty easily. But we'll give it the rest of the week to see how they do.
