1000 HPS what is the coverage?

If you were using a 1000 HPS in a 5 x 10 foot room how much space would you say it covers?

5 x 5 ?

I am going to figure out where to put the other lights around it but have limited HPS experience.

And if you ran it at 750 what would the coverage be ?

Roughly...just an idea of what people who use them think.

And the bulb has about 1000 hours on it. How many hours would you go until you replace it ?

Red does new bulbs every grow. I had 75'sh % still left on a 6+ flower cycle bulb. When I replaced it , readings only went up about 20% with the new bulb.
Dirtbag was killing it with 2x 1000hps,,.
On a flat plane , more than 5x5 is stretching it.
I have 1400 over roughly 4x4, right now. I can average over 800 ppfd.
I have gotten satisfactory results with 2200 over my 8x5.
Soon I will be topping at 2800 ( 2x 1k , 2x 400 watt)

Regardless of light intensity, the thicker the soil the lower the yield. Not talking about quality here- just the contrast of hydro vs. Dirt growing. For some reason, in my head, I relate the total amount of wet and dry cycles directly to the overall mass of the harvest. Until we hear the sweet angels singing, we have to assume there is some factor limiting growth. With 1000 Watts over a four-by-four area, light intensity should not be the limiting factor for growth

Overlap is your friend. I would dim a bulb only if I ran out of Headroom. You can raise the fixture, in oder to reduce the brightest spot in the canopy to the maximum target intensity, whilst spilling light over to other plants.

Ps.
Do not put any stock in total PFD. Producing light is one thing ,,getting it to hit the plants evenly with point source illumination is another. A reflector can make or break a bulb.

I make evaluations and measurements with ppfd
That is a real-time measurement of photon flux density at one specific spot , at one specific time.
We map the intensity plotted over an area to determine the effectiveness of the unit.

The performance of the bulb is directly related to the quality of the reflector.

Theres plenty of cats out there that can pull with a 600W what many pull with a 1K so wattage isnt really everything. 4x4 is probably about as far as I'd try to stretch a 1K HPS unless you were open room with multiple 1K lights that have an overlapping footprint. Then you could get slightly more coverage per light. @Jewels touched on a really great point about the reflector. A batwing would give far less of a footprint vs an XXL using the same bulb and wattage. Not all hoods are created equal. Unless you needed to dim for power consumption/heat/intensity issues I'd suggest running it full tilt along with your intended supplemental lights in a 5x10.

You could cover a 5x5 but the 4x4 is the area that does work.
Ive used the Magnum XXXL reflectors for as long as they have been around. 4x4 is there sweet spot.
600's will by far work better, especially if you have ceiling height issues.
You could put 3 600's in your 5x10 and it would blaze with just 1800 watts.

i have cobs and boards to cover the rest. I will hybrid it all together. Taking into consideration about 4 x 4 of coverage.

I have an air cooled XXL hood. I run my scrubber through it to outside so the heat is not so bad. Better than i expected by a lot.

1000 watts of boards and cobs and 1000 watts of hps for the room. I find 1600 to 1800 watts is about where i run into heat problems with my situation with 1 vent hole outside of the house.

Ventilation is always a struggle.
I run dual 6" inlines and summer months still require ingenuity sometimes.
1000w- 4x4.
600w- 3x3.
If using a magnum hood, go with a 1000. A 600 bulb is too small without a socket extension, and will not be centered in the hood.

I did forget to mention i have dual sockets in my Magnums.

I ran 2 xxl single ended 1k's for years over a 5'x10' area. It did well. I replaced bulbs every other run. Always used hortalux bulbs. I think it's better to run full power. I believe it messes up the spectrum when dimmed.
Only reason I'm not running those now is I've moved and I don't have the height availability.
I've since went to qb's
