12/12 From Seed for Breeding

What are u making? As long as u already have ur cuts I don’t see a problem per se. but I am not 100 percent on that jmho
Ciskei and then Guatemala. I was thinking about taking clones the next time around. That way I get seeds and and get a head start on the next round. Are cuts and clones the same thing? I guess I should veg until I can get some and then flip to flower right after.

Good thinking. Thank you

If you want a good tester or duster you can take clones from a mother that's about 2 weeks into flower and root them, keeping the 12/12 cycle. I've been able to so this several times with no reveg period. You end up with tiny clones that are about 4 weeks behind mom.

100% start under 12/12 with those strains. Sativas like those don't like being under long light periods.

When I do seed runs it makes sense to run 12/12 from seed right?

I tried to change the title to 12/12 from seed for seed runs but couldn’t figure out how.
Lately I've been sprouting seeds under 12/12 with interesting results.
Some strains never really took off, so yield was minimal.
Ohers hit the ground running and did surprisingly well.

A 2/12 light cycle is also a good way to find intersex issues early.
It was common to have a plant bust out some female pistils before showing that it is actually a male. 🙄

I see this too.
Try'na get a handle on it.

In regards to the OP's stale question:
Males are dumping pollen slightly earlier than the females will have abundant bud sites.
Same as photo plants, really.
I am typically only brushing single branches. As such I am using pollen that I have stored for a week or two.
An open pollination would be much simpler.
Just plant them and let 'em buck. We are talking about unsupervised teenagers here, left unattended they will all end up pregnant.

As general practice on non land race i dont think doing 12-12 from start to finish is good for the plants.

Undo stress might trigger the survival response and hermy the shit out of it.

But.... if you bred a plant that thrived under those conditions.... I think someone here is doing that? Is it you @Kanzeon ?

I read it here someplace.

I do think what is very useful is having a cloner in your bloom room. To sex some cuts. Might save some space with males in regs :D

The Mango Biche preservation I am working on certainly seems to be going much better under 12/12. Under normal veg cycles it seemed like it was always over its DLI limit no matter how dim I went. Switched to 12/12, no other changes (big bed water only) big turn around.

You're correct! When I was up there, I started every plant out under 12/12, then put them under 18/6 to veg after sorting, then back under 12/12 (might have been 11.5/12.5) for flowering. I did it for a number of reasons, including stressing the plants when they were young so I could cull shitty/hermy plants with a swiftness.

I've noticed that males show more intersex issues than females when seedlings are started under 12/12 .

If I was pheno hunting for males, this would be standard procedure for minimizing intersex issues while plants are still in solos.
