A question about frozen seeds

Hi

I stripped the starfighter and froze her...ran half of it in my bubble machine today and got a beauty haul of 45 to 160 hash. Took the material out of the washer and its LOADED with beans.

I thought they didnt take but i was wrong. The beans are Starfighter X Gushers SlMac (Star Smacks). The material is in the bucket and i will leave it for a few days and see if anything sprouts.

Can i get the seeds out of the frozen (sort of flash frozen) buds that are still in the freezer?

I was thinking of shucking them frozen...and putting them on a paper towel to dry...might as well run the rest of the plant tomorrow. I will end up with 3 to 4 oz of 45 to 160 micron hash...smells like menthol and lemons.. :D

Any advice on the seeds..how to have the best chance of success keeping them will be appreciated.

I'd bet on many of them sprouting in the leftovers, especially if you keep it in a warm spot.

Yes, seeds do "over winter". Had auto seeds sprouting in back yard sidewalk cracks in Pueblo, CO in the spring- those preened seeds from the previous fall and had many a snow storm coverage.
Too, recall Mexibrick bag seed sprouting after friend had stash in the freezer.

Amazingly resilient, cannabis and other seeds.

Try em!!

I squeezed out as many seeds as i could from the other half of the plant. It was picked early so there were a ton of beans but mostly pale.

I got 60 that are dark. And that is all i need. Drying out on a mantel for a couple of weeks before i try 2 out.

The rest of that plant is in the hash washer now :). I love the sound of ice rattling against plastic in the morning.....it smells like victory !!!!

The ripper lost.

i kept the 60....the rest are hash slop but i kept it in a bucket and will keep it warm and percolating while the 60 rest and dry out. And this chucking thing is kind of fun...once you get over seeds all over...but i have strainers.

I have 3 different strainers...best ones come from the dollar store...seeds dont fit through...push your doobage through...smooth smoking satisfaction...and no weird flavors.

Seeds taste bad...this is true but THRIP SHIT is one of the worst bitter tasting things ever...i know this because all my buds now taste clean and tasty and i use cucumeris time release every 8 weeks...1.50 a pack and 20 packs does EVERYWHERE I grow...the hypo mites and others propogate in soil.

I have not seen a thrip since i got them...and when they were absent for 4 weeks i saw 1 thrip and said...BIOLOGICAL CONTROLS FOREVER

First pass in the hash washer...2nd run and all the rest of starfighter..that 45 bag is VERY oh my....but i am leaving it...both passes then i gather...then 2 passes and DONE.

3 to 4 oz of 45 to 159...right on the money

My guts woke me up at 1...tried to sleep til 1:30 then i said why am i doing this...came down...rolled a punch doob with a fat slather of rosin and a hash noodle and...watching netflix and gardening...what pain. I just have to top up every 90 minutes...geeze the pot doc was right !

Thank you for this. I recently got my first ever thrips from one of the few guys I know who grow. I am not happy. I don't take clones, but just visiting was enough, apparently.

I already use Mosquito Dunks to keep the fungus gnats at bay and am sold on biological IPM, so I just got back from the grow store with some carnivorous mites. I don't have the name at hand, but the dude at the shop said that they had found these ones to work a little more quickly than cucumeris. $1.50 per wee envelope and they get fresh ones weekly. They are supposed to be good for 8 weeks once they are in the garden.

Here's hoping they work as well as yours did. ?

I've had some light to severe fungus gnat infestations (I learned to grow in a place that had a pipe leak behind a molded out wall so the humidity was stupid high) and thrips always seem to precede and accompany them. I thought they might be the same thing but I was wrong. Either way I wish Spinosad or Pyrethrins were available in Canada.

Also, @OldG , as others have said those seeds should probably be fine. I've run seeds from hash runs before and they're no problem as long as the seeds aren't structurally damaged. You just gave them a nice little condensed winter! :D

You can use 1 part HO2O to 4 parts water to get rid of gnat eggs. Repeat every other watering x 4-5 watering's.
Thrips, organically controlled again by HO2O, dish soap and very diluted apple cider vinegar, diatomaceous earth.
Personally, I wouldn't want to smoke something with neem oil or spinosad.

Speaking of neem oil and cakes. I read a few articles about the main poison in neem

There is some thinking that Azadirachtin builds in toxicity in the human body over time, that is why the allergy can appear in someone that smoked weed for years and now gets very sick from it.

I have not used neem in a couple of months. Potassium fatty soap does the job without neem,

  • Azadirachtin, an active ingredient, is implicated in causing the effects seen in neem oil poisoning. Neem oil poisoning is rare in adults. This report highlights the toxicity associated with neem oil poisoning in an elderly male. The patient presented with vomiting, seizures, metabolic acidosis, and toxic encephalopathy.

Exactly. Neem, many think, because it's "organic", it's considered safe. Nope.

Sure, I drank water out of the garden hose growing up, but these days I avoid anything that can do cellular damage to my body, my lungs.

It's a personal choice. I try to find ways to battle bugs and mildew, etc. naturally.

To each their own. I don't use it late in flower and I triple rinse all of the buds before vaping, so I'm not super worried about it. I've tried DE, H2O2, PFR-97, and Safer's End-All and the last two seem to keep them in check most effectively.
