You guys put Ketchup on your pie ?
I recall in the 80s a Californian friend came down under to fish with us and was surprised to see meat pies sold over the counter from corner stores as a lunch option same as you get hot dogs .
Millions are eaten every day for lunch as a pretty stable part of our lunch diet .
We call Ketchup Tomato sauce instead so was bloody funny when he’s walking out the store doing his best Aussie accent saying “ I got a pie with sauce mate “
One of those look back and laugh memory’s
No, no ketchup here! Honestly I'm not a big fan of it. I don't even eat ketchup on my hotdogs lol

But I'll tell you, I've been envious of your access to handheld, meat filled pies for a long time. Randomly, when I was a kid my dad would get these big boxes of frozen "Aussie Pies" from Sam's Club (a discount bulk food store) and we would eat them all the time. Then one day we couldn't get them anymore. And that's when I realized how uncommon they are here. Like, as a child I thought we also just ate meat pies and we ate the frozen ones cause we were poor and didn't eat out lol. I didn't even know the Aussie part referred to Australia till we couldn't get them anymore. This was a pre-internet world of course.

This is the first time I've ever seen these ones I just ate. I was at a Whole Foods, which I never go to and just randomly saw them and was like, yeah, I should have a few of those in the freezer. Hopefully it means they're starting to catch on in the states. Our street food sucks compared to the rest of the world.

I’ve often thought that ( your last comment ) I was surprised when he’d never seen a meat pie before 🤷🏼‍♂️.
Admittedly I’ve never been to the states but looking at your take away foods they seem very limited .
One good thing about multi cultural society though is the whole range of alternate culinary experiences opened up to us .
If I could I’d send you some of our finest meat pies . They literally just melt in your mouth . We have Pepper pies , Potato pies , Pizza pies , Bushranger pies , Chunky beef pies just to name a few .
It’s definitely the land of the meat pie 🥧

Okay, I need to know what a bushranger pie is...

We have okay take out but it can be really limited, especially if you don't live near a city. But it is getting better all the time. Used to be only pizza and Chinese where I'm at, now we have way more choices. And we have burritos which are pretty damn awesome.

Exactly what I was thinking. Roo?
Yeah pretty much . I guess it’s kind of our way of making a native pie 😂
Our history is not dissimilar to yours only as everyone readily reminds us , especially the British we were formed from a bunch of misfit lowlife English convicts .

I gotta laugh though when I look at overcast drab gloomy England and wonder who got the better deal 🤔.
Probably why you guys sent them packing as well 😝

Ok I had to do this on today’s Supermarket venture . Probably half of what was on offer ….. E1F9D02A-54DB-4357-BEFB-3165B4BC4574.jpeg

@Meatman Hey mate what’s your take on the best steel blades if one was looking for a good fillet knife ? Amy particular brands you use ? Any particular suppliers ?
Anything victorinox top shelf knives and steals that’s all we use vendors would come in with cheaper ‘better’ knives but nothing would compare I’d rather spend a little more money than come home with a sore arm there was one brand I can’t remember it they had green handles they where actually pretty nice but they can’t hold an edge for shit steal your knife ever couple minutes but when they where freshly honed they’d cut beautifully…talking about this kinda makes me miss being a butcher

Victorinox knives are absolute weapons . I use them in our kitchen and they’re lethal if not respected .
I only bought a few new one a couple weeks ago and got home and lectured the Wife and daughter on how lethal they can be if you use them incorrectly . I then went on to slice into my thumb tip and forefinger in the next couple days while my wife reminded me of my lecture . Next time I’ll shut up
Some of the best steel I’ve used was Japanese sashimi knives for processing Tuna and other Seafood and meat . Awesome blades . I still have one from about 20 years ago I used to butcher shark with .
I couldn’t agree more that a good blade halves your work effort .
