Best Ph for coco

@Capt. C here's a copy n paste that saves me alot of typing. Lol.

So, when your tap water splashes through and flows through the pipes at a cooler temperature of around 50F, you have a lot of Co2 and oxygen that dissolves into the water.
When Co2 dissolves in water it forms carbonic acid.
CO2_rxn_q2jkya.jpg

Once you put the tap water in your reservoir it will begin to rise to room temperature which ideally is around 72F in bloom. So, our tap water is warming up in our reservoir and as this is happening the carbonic acid starts to turn back into Co2.
pH levels begin to rise as carbonic acid turns into Co2. The Co2 begins evaporating out of your water and your pH balance will start to level out at a higher number as the water equilibrates with its surroundings.

Hence the reason why your sealed jugs stay more ph level, but the open aerated res does not.

I have never used the bags so maybe that is the issue.

Holy crap i have a whole tote i was getting ready to use ( that big brick they sent). I wonder how in the heck any fungus gnats could survive in the dry bricks. I am not taking any chances with the fungus gnats. I am finally free of them at this point.
The only thing I could think was there was larvae in there. Still on the first run with these and have the worst gnat problem I've ever had. Going back to my happy place with the mother earth mix lol. Def beware, maybe you can pasteurize them yourself.

I am going to pasteurize it right into the trash can.LOL I just finished with a gnat infestation not long ago. Not eager to do it again. Mother earth had bricks on amazon and i just ordered. Sure wish i had a good place to dispose of old coco. The coco is not the problem it is the perlite that gives things away when you are in the stealth mode.

I don’t know how to do multi quote so I can reply to all those who gave me input, @Capt. C ,@Cfeezzie ,@ricky_simples thank all y’all. I was just at the hydro store going over the many many options. I have used tupur in the past once and I hated the stuff. I had the basement mix and I just couldn’t get it dialed. I did like the lava racks used for aeration but that was about it. I’ve still got some peat products to finish off so I may do that for this next grow and then transition to coco. I’m still digging hydro so much. Those f&d totes are the bees kneez! Thanks again folks, always appreciated ?✌?

Lol right into the trash, you know what they're like too I see. I keep my old coco around for various things. If you grow veggies mix it in your soil.

I would love to here some thoughts on the proper ph range for coco. Some say it is hydro and some say it is soil. I say it is neither and falls about in the middle of the two. I have been running mine between 6.0-6.3 seems to work good in that range but i am kinda guessing. Thoughts?
Coco can be used in soil mixes or used as a hydroponic medium. It's pretty cut and dry.

Coco is a premiere hydroponic medium. It doesn't affect the ph of solution like most other hydro mediums and it has a better water to air ratio than rockwool.
In hydro, ph 5.5 - 6.3 is livable with coco, 5.8 is the sweet spot.
Remember that fresh coco that has not been conditioned also snatches calcium and Magnesium out through cation exchange and adding more of these nutrients is advisable.

What kind of coco you guys using? That’s my next venture, coco and perlite drain to waste. Thanks in advance?
I use botanicare and general hydroponics bricks.
If I had the coin, I'd run Canna bricks, because they've already leached and conditioned it.

Because coconut trees grow on the beach and the coir is processed near the beach, coco coir is loaded with sodium and the cheaper stuff can be made premiere by leaching it.
Leach it until the runoff ec has stabilized

@Texagonian
Coco-loco,perlite and calcined clay(turface). Tupur is also nice.

@Capt C. I like Mac, shoot for 6.0-6.3no adjustment if it falls in that range and allow for drift in DTW fabric bags.
When in just Perlite/Turface and no coco,5.8 6.0.
Only bricks I use is the jiffy seedling coco brick.Everthing else is Coco Loco.It isn't just Coco. Has some good shit in it.

Hey @Texagonian one of the reasons i buy my coco in bricks is to prevent any insect infestation and to be able to store a good amount of media. Mac was just saying about a gnat infestation he got from bricks ( Flora-Flex). This is a very rare scenario for larvae to live in a dry brick of coco. I am not exactly sure how long larvae could live in a dry brick but i would think not that long. I just purchased some 5kg bales of Mother Earth (20.99). That is a good sized tote worth of coco before even adding the coco. The second reason i buy the bricks is i am cheap.

My PH has been around 6.2-6.5 when using Megacrop and I didn’t have any issues although I didn’t make it to flower so I cannot say how it would do with that high ph in flower.

Ya man all I'm saying is I didn't have gnats before the quick fill bags came into my flower room. And they're pretty bad, when I go in there I constantly have them flying in my face and see them all over by the bases of my plants. I'm at war right now lol.
