Budget rosin press

I have the RNP-4 on the way. It looks like it will be prefect for my needs & the cost was right. I've been having a buddy press my dry sift & popcorn & decided it was time to invest in my own. I will probably end up breaking out the bubble bags as well :)

I didn’t know where to post this question, so I figured someone in this thread could assist. I just squished some Creamy Greases with a hair straightener and a clamp……I’m a complete newb at this! The buds dumped tons of ooze, BUT it’s not releasing from the parchment paper. It just moves around like it’s too watery. Is the moisture content too high in my bud still? I am using an ice pack under the paper. I have them in the freezer now to see if it may solidify enough, but curious, what causes this?

I'm no expert but it reminds me of what happens when I press flower that has too much moisture left in it. If you let it sit out for a night or two the moisture should evaporate and it will get workable...if that's what happened. You could always use one of them flat plastic bread ties as like a scraper on a flat surface and collect it like it was bondo on a mud board etc...if that makes any sense.

How much did that run you?

Looking for a press myself but I'm on a budget, $250 or less I'd be able to shell out.
This was under $200 I would advise against NOT getting one. It's alot of work and just to small to deal with...However it does work well and aa it should...Pressing just isn't a game I'm interested in after the fact of simply doing it...To much time and work with little return...Look around on eBay ...Buy plates and make your own press. This thing is just toooooo small and takes alot of effort

That’s what my best guess is as well. I’m scraping away it, but I may leave one sheet out to see if it dries a bit.

Ya man. Hell with all that. I'm busy enough...I've found hitting the fresh frozen trim with some dry ice thru a hash bag or kief thru the trim bin is where I'm happy to stop😂. That stuff even vapes thru a Solo like a beast

Ey I do a ton on hair straightener pressing (lol what a bragger!)
To me its def strain specific but also high temps and long presses can make a more runny oily product. If u can get the temps lower and do less time pressing. And then repress those "pucks" again a little later, at a higher temp.
Thats what i do. A hair starightener is too crude to dial in precisely, but i can adjust my "tech" some to compromise.

Just a thought, i hate hving those runny papers! U can also get some tacky rosin and use it to dab up the runny stuff, but i bet u will need to be inside your freezer door to collect 😆
I never tried the clamp style so i am not sure how quick a press can be.

You don’t use a clamp on your hair straightener?…..do you just use your own pressure? I have mine set to the lowest temp and I am listening to the “sizzle” and I will continuously turn on and off to try to keep the temps a little lower.
My educated guess is that the flower isn’t fully cured. I’ve done a few dabs already and it tastes and smells really green yet. I must not have cracked open my jars enough to fully cure the bud. Sometimes trial and error is super frustrating!

Thanks for the review on that one HBZ...

I was looking at these cheaper models some time back and was eyeing that one, also been eyeing the Rosineer on ebay for 180ish but never pulled the trigger...I have no plans to do any huge amount of material as it would be just for personal here and there for something different.

HAHA i love this bc i feel most dudes will not talk about their hair straightener skills!
cmon guys MAN UP

I am not the heaviest person i will admit. Around 160lb my whole life. So i use a hexagonal dumbell. I put the hair straightener on the floor and put oneside of the dumbell on it, then step on to press. That way it seems like more even pressure and u dont burn yr feet 🤣
i only press for 10-12 secs at a time. I hv pressed stuff that is a few days dried sometimes and it usually looks more golden or amber by default.
Which i like to see!
The darker color i assumed meant high temps or there is more moisture is pushing out chlorophyll. And u can tell if its too "wet" bc the paper will seem "steamed" more so than crispy feeling. Which makes it even harder to collect too.

Whats funny is by the time u price out a nice hair straightener wt settings and a laser thermometer, u are a 100$ away from buying a cheap rosin press already...
So at a certain point i to got to go up a level,
Maybe whn a kid moves out....

I used to press at a buddy's and hair straightener was just in the meantime. but covid came and ruined it so now i stay stomping buds 1 by 1.

Had some sativa trim from Sour Thai and Golden Goat and made bubble . Small return and very sticky , was gumming up the bags .
Pressed it to rosin, sticky and hard to handle.

Couldn't remove it off the parchment because it tears the paper trying to unstick.
I put it in the freezer but when it gets room temperature it's a mess.
Extreme sativas are great flower but they definitely don't produce stable rosin like a hybrid.

I have 2 presses, first one is a 1 ton (2nd 10 ton) , way too expensive and nowhere as good as my 2nd one. Thing is my 2nd one is 5x more power and way more i can press. pisses me off I bought that first press when rosin first came out and man I got ripped off

a amazing presses imo and work great and def worth the cash is dabpress. Check em out
