I am constantly trying different things to expand my understanding. Especially using the things I have on hand and knowledge gain from past escapades. I have seen a ton of cloning techniques that seem to be very easy and provide great results. For my set-up which uses the hempy bucket method perlite and vermiculite are in abundance. Using the hempy cup I posted earlier I placed a cutting about 1/2 inch up from the drain hole. I also filled a little glass with nothing but straight vermiculite. Check it out:

This is at 15 days

I did dip the tips in CloneX before placing them in their containers. The perlite was fertigated every 25 hours refreshing the mini-reservoir on the bottom of the cup. The vermiculite I re-moisten with some droplets every 3-4 days.

I believe that the perlite could be fertigated at less of an interval for the same results. The vermiculite looks too moist to me by the darkening of the tip. Next up is a combination mix.

So I've been doing this in mason jars for a while and I've tried everything . Perlite is the only thing that won't wick the moisture out if the rockwool . Everything else seemed to dry the cubes out on me . I pre soak the cubes and lay them into top of two inches of bone dry perlite . Seems to work for my method anyways. Funny how we all have our ways. It makes sense how u do yours as well. I'm actually dying to try your method now its def easier ?

I moved over to perlite as my only form of growing medium a couple of years ago. I like the growth I get and it's cheap to buy. I also re-use my perlite over and over again, so many times I am not even sure how long some of it's been around. I only recently have reintroduced vermiculite back into my system due to the fact that Bruce Bugbee from Utah State University recommended it. Its water-holding properties are obvious, but what really got me was the fact that it adds in silica. The only real reason I ditch it was because I couldn't really re-use it too much because it will breakdown fairly quickly. In comparison to the perlite, it becomes this mushy mess.

That's really cool . When I started in the 90s my first grow was done in perlite . Obviously it's was in it's rawest and most inexperienced manner lol. But I can see it's benefits and always have perlite in some way or another in my mix . It's a great medium .
