Dipping my toes.. Dirtbag genetics?

Nah I need a better breeder name than that lol. I'll work on it.

Anyway I'm sitting here smoking this beautiful chunk of platinum cookies and started thinking... I'm going to finally dip my toes into an half assed organized, and planned out breeding program and do my best to capitalize on the last bit of summer here to make some pollen.

Plan is to chuck pollen from males of dragon cheese, forbidden zkittlez, Blackberry moonshine BX1 and Dragons garlic breath.

For now I'll dust my platinum cookies and pre98, one plant of each per male donor. I'll also save some pollen so I can breed with the females of the zkittles/moon shines etc once I've selected phenos to continue breeding with.

Pretty excited to build up a seed vault. Any tips or pointers from yall experienced seed makers, please chime in and show me the way!
Cheers

Oh, and a little nug shot of my platinum cookies I'm smoking. Cant wait to cross this one with the dragon cheese. Gonna call it platinum cheezies lol. 20200716_172417.jpg

I fully support that decision! I wish you well with your projects and look forward to seeing what you come up with! Positive vibes...

Edit to add: I have said it a million times: Making seeds and being able to gift them to others, as well as being able to search through the progeny of my own creations is by far my favorite part about growing cannabis. Truly addictive.

The first of my male pollen for collection is almost dropping already. This strain I call, the lord almighty. It's a cross of God bud and Mighty mite I made last year. Its growing with amazing hybrid vigor, I plan to use this pollen for developing hardy, fast finishing varities bred for the Canadian outdoor climate. Just need to work some more flavor into the mix. I plan to hit my dragon cheese female and platinum cookies with it, and see what happens next summer... 20200719_090253.jpg

Notice I left the last part off ?
I have produced 2 whole beans in my life. One became a male I couldn’t keep. The other took a good bounce off the kitchen hardwood, never to be seen again !

I do have a close relationship with fails.
Here is a comprehensive list of all the things I would do, in order to cock it up.

Get yourself into a confined, poorly organized space. You will always remember , for eternity, every single thing your hands do; no need for superior labeling.

Make sure to keep your expectations slightly higher than realistic; this will all happen much faster than you could ever imagine, and there will never be any setbacks.

Most importantly?

Looking for a "chest" freezer for this application.
'Uprite', 'frost-free', 'all-fridge', and the model in your kitchen, all employ a heat cycle.
Anything other than a deep freeze will promote condensation.

Now that I am off the leash: I might recommend a sealed, insulated container for the freezer.
After you remove the vault from the cold, allow 24 hours or more, before you open it. This slow equalization will prevent precipitation with the vials.
It should also prevent their wee sunglasses from fogging up, when you return them to the igloo.

Good tips guys. Males are all separated and outdoors so not too worried there. And yeah I have a chest freezer and small cooler bag. I'll store it the same way I do yeast, once it's in the small vials with desiccant I'll keep it in vacuum sealed bags, that are then placed into a Tupperware tub of isopropyl alcohol in a watertight pelican case, inside a cooler bag, in a chest freezer.

All pertinent questions for me too right now. Not sure what the plans are but have Triangle Brewster and Strawberry Milk males growing out. Sounds like you have storage down. WTF that sounds badass. I may just do the desicants, vacuum seal and freezer. Maybe keep some same way but in produce drawer of fridge too, see if that works. Good luck.

Yeah it just all sort of clicked for me, it needs to be stored like brewing yeast. Which is very cold with little fluctuation in temperature and remove as much oxygen as possible, except unlike liquid yeast in a glycerin solution pollen should also be as dry as possible.

I got this. Looking forward to "chucking pollen" lol. Although for the purists out there, just know it will likely be 5-10 years before I'll have anything I consider "mine" that is new and stable enough to really call it my own. Any crosses for the first long while,... all credit will be given to the original breeders.

Like Jewels implied, strorage is straight forward, just be careful about condensation when you're bring the pollen back up to room temp.
