Lets talk about these little short path stills.
Im interested in makimg some concentrates.
I brew beer and have a big still 5g kettle with reglux so i can make my own alc.
Are the cheep chinese ones in e bay ok?
I have a vuccume pump already. What temp does the cold trap have to be?

I have 4 differant distillation setups. And a bunch more apperatus'.
A couple are fleabay purchases.
There is a tincture thread here that covers alot of this operation.
There many ways of doing the same thing.
I make tincture regularly and mostly use a 2000ml rig with mantle, 3 way thermometer adapter, a 200mm condensor, 105* vacum adapter and a recieving vessel.
I also use a small Harbor Freight pond pump in the sink with ice and water to cool column.
If ya dont have a stirrer mantle you'll need to use boiling chips to prevent bumping, which is a big mess.
Alcohol boils at 79*C and will begin to pull over at about 74* C.
For my uses i decarb before soaking.
I have a short path apperatus but havent had enough "goo" at a time to run it yet.

Should I get a distillation setup? I regularly make extracts & RSO, and I don't want to keep evaporating my alcohol into the air. I was looking at a 3 pot 3 gallon setup on EBay for only $75! I evap at least $75 of alcohol every year and probably closer to $150. I'd love some input, as I'm thinking seriously about this.

For ethanol recovery, I'd look into a rotovap. You can cheap out and get a 125.00 alcohol distiller. You would still lose a bit of ethanol, but would recover much more vs evap into the air.

It's the same as a water distiller, but is temperature controlled by a dial. I used one many yrs back before i got a rotovap.

When I hear (or read) a distillation setup, I think of a short path distillation setup to make distillate (pure form of cananaboids, no terps, solvents).

Rotary evaporators are the best for full spectrum ethanol extraction. They are not cheap even on alibaba with a vacuum water chiller your looking at 1000 bucks for a 2lt setup. Short path distillation is for seperation and isolation of individual compounds through different temps and vacuum. Short path also is not scalable. Lab grade ethanol is 40 bucks a gallon on amazon. If your not using but 3 gall a year wont be a good investment. I have a 2lt setup which can handle 1lt of qwet base. I dont even use it anymore because cartridge market is flooded with cheap 15 dollar a gram vape carts. I do decarbed keif and bubble hash pressed through 25 micron mesh for edibles and concentrates now. Solvent free and terps contained. Cheers
