Fabrics pots diy

After looking at many fabric pots quality, designs and prices. I've decided to look into making my own.

My question to you all is , what are your must haves and ones you could live without in your grow bags? @jaguarlax likes the velcro sides on his honor bags. It's one idea I'd like to incorporate. Pockets for stakes is one I like , I dislike handles. I feel they get in the way. Maybe like a shirt tag.

Open to all ideas ?

I always wondered why growbags are not tapered ?
,,, velcro is for transplanting , no ?
I only used ( proper?) growbags once, they were mid-sized. Transplanting was like trying to pull a fence post out of the earth.

Forgive my ignorance here, I gotta ask,,, does the average grower up-pot from a bag, to a larger bag ?
Or, is a fabric pot a 'final pot' ?

Are you experienced with a sewing machine?
Velcro is a pain. It needs a good backing.
Consider doubling or tripling up the fabric, and glue it down immediately prior to stitching.

You could Buy or make piping to give your fingers something to grip.

Yes, I would assume it's for easier transplanting and looking at roots. I've used grow bags mostly in my grows. They dry out quicker allowing me to water more often. I myself go from solo cup to a square plastic pot then 3 to 5 gallon bag. But I'm sure their are people who might use 1 or 2 gallon bag and up pot from there.

As far as my experience, lol I got a boyscout sewing merit badge. But I am going to rely on my wife and sisters knowledge on the sewing machine. I was going to roll with a phifertex plus fabric since its mold mildew resistant.

Thank you for your thoughts @Jewels definitely the kind of thoughts and ideas I'm looking for.

Seeing the cost of some of these higher quality grow bags I was just considering making my own as well. Well, not me actually, to be honest I was thinking about making my fiancee do it since she has a sowing machinr and knows how to do that shit and I don't lol.

I'm with you that I don't like the handles. They seem completely pointless.

I don't do LST like that anymore but the grommets seem really useful for a lot of growers.

The other thing I'd like is a better way of labeling. I hate plant labels. They're either one use plastic, which I hate, or bamboo, which get moldy or hard to read when wet. And the tape I use to label plastic pots just doesn't hold on the fabric pots. Something like a sewn in dry erase spot, or a clear plastic pocket you could slip a little piece of paper in would be nifty. But I'm not sure how much of a pain in the ass that would be to add on.

Also, easier to clean. I haven't used the Honest bags yet and they seem like they should be easier to maintain, but those cheap felt ones just plain suck to clean.

@OldG What do you think that liner is made of on those pots?

@jaguarlax talked about a wider, shorter pot. Which might help me out a bit saving a few inches for vertical growth ?. Just spit balling. Bought some more remnants last night. Gonna get the girls started out on samples next week. First ones probably will look rough but we'll go from there.

I have some pots with a pocketed windows just like you explained. I'm gonna try to get the girls to work that in. They're pretty excited to be doing this for me I'm sure. ?

It is a white plastic...maybe 3 to 5 mil like when compared to mylar film mil. and it is sewn into the bag so its a fancy material plastic.

I paid $85.00 for my last 8' Smart Pot Long Bag.
Thats 34 linear foot of material.
What does that cloth youuns are using per foot?
Its not cheap, I'm looking at the mold and mildew resistant phifertex plus outdoor pvs mesh and woven pvc mesh. Anywhere from 9 to 36 dollars a yard depending on design usually. Basic color are usually in the teens.
