Fly high my little buddies

She has built her nest directly beside my exhaust vent, on the typically downwind side. Last year, before the vent was in that location she had another spot right next to it, on the downspout. She actually picked the spot that gets the funk & smoke! Not only do they get nice warm air at night, they get cool air during the day. The vent also pulls all of my smoke out, which probably gives them the munchies, so they eat more mosquitos. Win win situation. 20220415_183712.jpg

We've got woodpeckers and Bluejays nesting around our place.
I love sitting out back listening to the woodpeckers work, looks like someone used a chainsaw under the trees at times.
Im sitting here drinking my coffee, smoking a bowl listening to the birds sing. What could be better? The Pileated woodpeckers we have are huge, and sound like a jackhammer when they hit really hard wood like walnut or tulip poplar. I've got one beautiful tulip popular that they have started to do a number on, so I'm gonna hang some reflective flashers to get them to move on. Looks like the tree was hit with a .50 cal Browning in some areas.

Probably a Flycatcher. They come back every year. Great bird to have. I have an outlet box under the deck that the flycatcher will use every year...same spot. If I don't remove the nest, she makes the new one on top of the old.

They eat bugs non stop :)
It's funny what you will find in those nests. Cigarette butts opened up for insulation, fishing line, lollipop sticks.

It blows my mind the force that these things generate. I was outside the other day and I heard one of them going to town and I'm like there's no f****** way that's a bird. Wild
