Goofs, mistakes, bloopers...

I didn't see a thread like this yet, hope i am not mistaken ?
The idea would be to share some goofs and maybe have a laugh, could be some hidden therapy to it
I had some ideas before but i didnt save them anywhere. So there's a goof right off the get!

Awhile back i started a side project collecting some phenos of chucks i made that i found had a nice heavy single stacked up cola type structure. I imagined running a SOG style grow oneday indoors wt these, maybe even try 12/12 from seed finally...

But at that time i was known to get "toppy" after a few beers and i would just pinch everything in the tent instead of bending, training (or better yet leaving a plant alone!)
So i topped every plant several grows in a row by mistake and had to abandon the project all together over time without fully realizing it.
Wampwamp dont do what i do!

An embarassing one is i used to mix some nutrients in old juice bottles. But i am also known to just sip out of a juice bottle at my worst moments ?
So once upon a time i had both on the counter and it almost happened. the old switcharoo!!! I dont use juice bottles anymore and switched to more safe homebrewed knf inputs too, just for extra safety ?

Bro did you see the forks I'm literally documenting in my journal? Lol, the light wasn't up high enough, and I've had seedlings of Motor Breath that burned up, so I started the light so low....

I could easily add me not having a keeper tent to this too... the things I wish I could do a smell and taste profile on...

Man I may have to come back another time, as I'm sure I've got more than one knee slapper lol. I used to tell people "want to see an asshole wrapped in plastic?" ... my driver's license they don't have plastic wrap anymore though.

i had a buddy offer me free clones if I took the cuttings, sure the list sounded amazing

well I went over to his house, brought some loast coast plant therapy ( low level IPM ) and plan was take a cutting, dip cutting in loast coast and than dip into gel and than planted into medium (root riot) and Inserted into trays/dome.

something wasn’t right with his plants, they looked super pissed. But his elite strains he had I was sooo wanting I had to do it? if I’m leaving them in quarantine why care and I can kill if not wanted Or infected? Didn’t work this way…

after 4 days like all clones I kept dome on, gradually removed dome off and hole open and sprayed the dome/kept water in tray. 2.5-3 weeks not a root infact i see plants straight up yellowing to death and leafs acting weird…. I than took a few lesfs to my scope and looked… omg

there was 100’s of hemp russet mites even on one leaf, fuck that! I thought I was okay since this was in a diff room I kept em? So I scanned my veg room. Fuck these bastards got in here….


well I got so insane on IPM /sop and rotating products and mixes in foliar ( focused on hrm) I got em killed but that was if not hardest pest I’ve ever had to deal with and if I didn’t do IPM advisor for others I def wouldn’t of realized and knew how hard and consistent u have to be . I would compare hrm as same level as root aphids and if u can kill them off like hrm and it’s not in ur region than ur def doing something cause ethier of those pest I’ve seen so many growers where they couldn’t get to that level of IPM and consistently being able to fight em and rotate and full coverages to conquer and keep pest gone.

i check weekly for misc bugs/issues in garden but I only saw the hrm come back once and that was cause I wasn’t 100% conquered at time. Point is imagine if I didn’t check and released those clones or had em in my room waiting to root. i told my friend when i discovered the issue and he seemed to not even care . he let me go back into his garden as a tour and I could def tell he still had hrm and they def were eating his buds alive but also raping the health of the plants. shoot u can have webs of two spot mites and they won’t eat ur buds, hrm will

made sense cause all his bud def looks less crystals but also mids/boo, sad but that’s all on him . I just think it’s interesting if ur spending all this cash on nutes,lights,electricity , time ,trimming and so many other things. To not be willing to fight ur biggest enemy if having than honestly why even grow . I def wouldn’t and if I was that lazy or not passionate I would at least kill my moms and start over cause hrm will leave like many bugs and scout for hemp. if no host they won’t be there for more than 14 days and hrm isn’t known in my zone so it’s obvious someone brought infected overstate and didn’t kill the hrm off. I tried to explained, show him info and show difference on how much damage was done by hrm on his buds. Sad part was he thought his bud was good enough to sell and smoke so why care to kill or spend cash on IPM.. some people aren’t worth ur efforts lol

I did something like that to myself before.
When i first started cloning i would take cuts before moving plants outside to flower.
then i got weird and started waiting until plants would sex outside and then take cuts of what i liked, put them in for 3 months quarantine in their own tent inside.
At some point i messed up and took something out early. I had fallen off on spray schedule too i bet. It seemed like ending quarantine early led to having super angry bugs. They went nuclear in my veg tent.
I am thankful for the ipm sop's that get posted. Something to aspire to, being more organized ??

This is another farmer fuck up = learning experience


I was using propane co2 burners for 10+ years in my flower room and inserting fresh air via ducting when temps was above 82f. worked good even when I did hps/de.

well I wanted to be more “sealed” I sealed my drywall first 1-2 inches from floor with foam and looked and filled any holes . Swiftly i noitced my co2 burner was burning beyond the controller was set to ( ur talking like 5k I caught it lol)

anyways I thought it was The controller? recalibrated it multi times, than bought another one ( 200+ bucks) and it had same issues? Turns out the propane burner needs air and if sealed the burner will keep going forever lol… I got a refund on the new one and I was certain it was the controllers.. why not try a 3rd ? Didn’t change shit

well after many hrs of looking online I figured it out, gosh I was lacking if sealed they def only used co2 tanks lolz ?

I make sure to know my co2 ppm in air/canopy cause without it I’ve seen my ppm of co2 go to 000 within minutes of being warned , def sealed and to a plant it would be like u without air… def don’t wanna do that and without my pulse meter I def prolly would of fucked up more and would of had another “learning experience “ to learn

Wanted to set up a dehuey to run during lights off.

Lights run at night for this set up 8pm-8am.

Set timer to turn on at 7:45am and off at 7:45am.

i would Before applying a drench make sure ph is correct and re-correct it if needed. whole time it would state my ph was 8-9…..
I would add 1-3x more than previous rounds of ph down?, didn’t change my recipe? both veg room and flower were doing same issue?
had a handheld ph meter (normally use blue lab guardian ) and it was showing same ph as guardian ….. I assumed it has to be right?

contacted bluelab and they said buy A new probe…. They asked what does ur 4.0/7.0 calibrate state, it was 2.0 off ( yeah)

well the issues were def ph issues and I went with gut and bought 1 new ph probe for guardian ph system and bam I was off by 2.0, meaning that 8.o was really 6.0!

what bad luck (3 probes wrong ) and that def fucked with my skillz per say

few years ago I tried to contact a few hvac installers for lg and Mitsubishi and many around me were booked or not interested… odd?

well I tried to contact many and finnaly I got one to set me a appointment, well that appointment was horrible lol

i went into it thinking they would be professional and want my cash ? within 5-10 minutes of meeting even thou I never mentioned anything odd besides way more ton‘s of service than they suggested for sqft of normal home… well it’s not for the home lol

they asked within this 10 minutes “ is this for a marijuana grow?” , I said yes and it was a legal facility even and there wouldn’t be plants even in there . I did my research and I even knew what exact model and where I wanted em…. Fuck this would of been a easy job and they could of made money?

they instantly said 10k per unit for install.. wtf! And this was over 5 years ago….. I asked why is it so high install price when u can look up normal install cost/averages for such units. the owner/manager said “ for criminals like you, and u better hope it don’t have any issues cause that’s 10x”


I stood up and was def not going this route cause u could tell at least that person was anti cannabis or at least he thought he could blackmail me into higher cost..

so I bought a mobile a/c, not those small portable ones u see at hydrostore but a expensive 5k 36k “serverroom a/c”. well that thing was like 200 lb on wheels, it took 2 4x8 lines wasted being there and u had to have ducting for input and out so that’s also losing co2….


within days of using it I went into room and the temps were above 100f+ cause the a/c had this hyper-pressure/too much denser and it would shut off cause of it., I tried many times and spent tons of cash installing it outdoors , than tried it controlled room aka lung room to bring in the air… still always was fucking up

then I bought the pulse and it was showing that thing was not only doing that more often than I knew but canopy temps I was way too hot. The a/c was if not more energy than my current a/c system ( 2 24k mini splits mr cools )

not only was That a/c a more fuck up than using outdoor air but it ruined my cycles, thing only worked for 1.5 years ( didn’t grow in summer ) before it ran out of freon and I was done … fuck that


After this bs I installed (2) 24k Mr cool diy and if one isn’t needed while growing or if one needs maintenance/repairs np. I only need 24k most of time

that 5k pos server a/c not omly was more costly than both my Mr cool’s combined cost and another 1k cheaper (4K vs 5k) . I even contacted the company since it claimed 5 year warrenty and turns out I would have to pay ship to them, and back and also they only warrenty certain parts, if not it was 1 year.. they at least admitted and said I prolly was out of freon and said I could get a hvac person to repair it. Thought about that but glad I went with my mini splits


New a/c not only are they more energy efficient, on the wall, stronger air flow and the repairs are def doable and cost efficient. That as a farmer I thought hvac would not be that big of deal. It’s sooo much and people also need to realize like if ur using dehumidifiers and similiar they produce heat… like my quest 155 + 105 = 20k of heat, that’s almost all my hvac for it and can’t imagine if it was hps, def more required


so yeah, sucks I spent all that cash and failures but makes me stronger and appreciate that I learned the needs and what to get. Always recommend Mr cool , if u don’t have a hvac person I suggest diy. If u can than u can warrrenty certify it if certified hvac otherwise it’s not.

plus if u use a certified hvac they can save ya 500 bucks by not having pre-charged

I've killed at least a couple hundred clones and seedlings because I like to set them on top of the light for "just a second" and end up forgetting about them. Copa's fast purple was the last time.
I also like to balance plants precariously on improvised stands so they will topple over on to other plants later; it's a skill.

One of my noteworthy habits is checking my plants without my glasses on...If I remember to put them on, sometime the plants suddenly don't look as good - for example, aphids, etc !

I Always hand water...Filling multiple gallon jugs from a reservoir...And this has happened twice..Bug spray day! I mix up my bug spray also in a gallon jug.. wouldn't ya know , many plants have been watered with straight bug spray ? damnit!

My current mistake was not flipping my light schedule to the opposite of the current one.
I'd probably have less temperature issues had I run my lights during the day instead of night, something I haven't done since I started, primarily because of electricity costs.
Too late now.

Ive actually succesfully changed light cycles on a couple runs before for this exact reason. I just did a 24 dark period then set the new schedule. No issues!

Just seeing this thread and man... so many "learning experiences" lol

My worst ones were leaving a window with no screen open in the summer and ending up with a massive thrip infestation and not noticing my timer failed in the on position for like 2 weeks. Virtually only realized it when I saw girls revegging.

Less costly but more common mistake is me lifting a plant up too high in my basement while forgetting there are spiders in them there rafters... keep having to clean webs off my colas lol.

I thought about it but the damage is done. It's mostly just habit, for 6 years the lights came on at 7pm when I woke up. Coffee, plant care, shower, leave. It became rote.

I had a poorly closed back door swing open from the wind, one summer. It happened while I was sleeping. The AC had been cycling on/off constantly for a good 7 hours.
That grow ended up costing me about a hundred dollars extra in electricity.

oh oh oh I can add my nonsense.......

1) trying to mix up nutes incorrectly...turns out they shouldn't have a giant white cloud when using silica
2) not keeping ph pen calibrated and damp....new model this year again
3) free hand adding ph-down directly into the tank then overshooting the target amount and having to dump a tank.....
4) letting a vent fan die and thinking just opening the door and oscillating fans will provide enough air exchange

I've got more from when I was younger but those are the most recent painful lessons...

I just learned about silicas interesting mixing properties last week lol. I havent had to use CalMg in ages but my seedlings were showing some signs of deficiency so I poured my silica into the mixing jug then added the CalMg... instantly turned into a gel!! I was like, at least it didnt explode or something haha. I know better too, Ive had plenty of chemistry classes, just had a stoney moment
