I thought a community thread for grow hacks would be helpful. Especially for newer growers

My first grow back is a splint for broken branches. I like to take a drinking straw cut off a piece couple inches or so, split it long ways and wrap it around the broke branch like a splint. After its in place around the branch just put a piece of tape on it to keep it tight on the branch.
I don't have a pic at the moment. I'll post one next time I use this method

Another one is when I start seeds in winter time here with my drafty house and low RH. I like to use the paper towel method between small glass saucers.
Then I put the saucers under a Brinsea ecoglow 20 led chicken brooder light. It keeps the glass and towels warm. Works like a charm

Egg brooder should be perfect.

I just find a warm (not too warm) spot. Top of the fridge, warm interior cabinet, etc. I don't have a cable box, dvd player or vcr any more so I can't put 'em on there :D.
Warning - I've cooked a couple of cracked seeds on a cheap seed mat. Don't let this happen to you!

We have chickens so I already had the brooder light on hand. Been 100% in winter time last couple of years using it :D I've cooked some before too trying to use a heat mat.
The brooder is height adjustable. Easy to use

I'm a cheap mofo. But I like to be able to monitor multiple tents with one glance. This outdoor temp and humidity monitor has 3 channels, with 3 little box type probes that can be put in each tent. It costed 35$ on the Zon.
I'm only running 2 tents at the moment. I just take a look at the screen and read each of the environment

Channel #1 is not being used
Channel #2 is my flower tent
Channel#3 is my veg

I like this!

I use my cable TV set-top box for seed germination warmth.

DIY Rockwool Cubes from Slabs
You can purchase a single flat of pre made cubes at $15-$20 USD /per sheet of 60-100 cubes.
Or! DIY from a slab for about the same price.
This 36x3x6 slab will produce 240-400 cubes for cuttings or seeds. Depending on how large you want your cubes.

Wearing latex/nitrile gloves and using a nice sharp bread knife, cut your desired slices while holding the slab firmly. Use a sawing motion for a clean cut.
They are not perfect in shape or size but work just as well regardless. The more solid cube, the better fme.
Ive flipped and turned and used in every direction with similar results. As long as they stand firmly.

The last time I shopped in an actual store front hydro shop, the young man working there told me " You cant do that! It wont work! The slabs have a directional grain."
My reply.. " Thousands of successful cuttings and seeds over the last 15 yrs or more, say you are wrong" ;)

I use tin tape myself, it's quite rigid when folded over the limb and wrapped around.
That straw trick is a good one too. ?
