Harvested some sweet potatoes yesterday........humble harvest, quantity was good, but fruits were small
The bed is sited where there was once an above ground pool. Got rid of the pool as the kids got older........problem was the pool was leveled out with mason sand...........so I've been cover cropping and adding compost for about 5 years. It's still sandy but it's producing.
After yanking the potatoes, I bury as much vines as I can right there and have seeded hairy vetch for nitrogen & tilth and buckwheat for frost killed mulch. It'll also get a broadcasting of wood ashes during the winter. It will get turned under approx June 1 and I'll plant the next crop into that, which is probably going to be tomatoes.
Hopefully this area fills in by late spring.
after dig
then right before seeding.... I smack the rake down hard, theb broacast seed, then level off. Most seeds find a lower spot to germinate.
