In Bloom
LOL, this is no longer the method I employ.
The new method is freezerless method which is also the argument free method. Keeping 6 lbs in the freezer for long periods causes friction ;). New parameters as follows
1) I'm only doing this once a year from now on
2) I don't put any of the trim in the freezer and I dry it all
3) Wait for the exterior temps to be right at freezing. Fill a 55 gallon Brute can with water and let that sit for 2 days in those temps. Also put the weed outside to chill.
4) make ice
5) Run the washer outside until done

I started with twelve 1 gal ziplocs of weed.approx 6 lbs. Then 28 lbs of ice and 55 gallons of very cold water. That yielded 131 g's. I used two 5 gallon bucket set ups. The one bag set has some tears in the 25 bag so the yield shoulda been a little higher but it is my best yield to date. When I collect the bags I mix the 73 and the 120 bags together for my full meltiness. Those get formed into balls after hot water rolling. Then I mix the 25 bag and the 160 bag and that get formed into squares. It can be smoked just not full melt. I give most of it away but it also works for edibles.

that's my story and I'm sticking too it (for now) :)
I use a sifter, hash tromel i call it. 3' long 1' dia silkscreen. Rotatetes between a motor and a brg. No water, just dry crumbled material. Kief falls on a flat piece of tin. Pain brush it into a container.
I haven't really compared but I've done washing and man the water gets terpy. I wonder how much is lost to the water?

Nice hash all. Good idea in the press. I may have to make some plates have had the idea for a few years.
I have a couple of small stove elements I may cast a larg round chunck of aluminium around them for a plate, say 11" x 1.75. Use a controller and 110v to run them. May have to get around to doing this now.

ah sifter.that reminds me. I have a small kitchen sieve that works pretty well to run the hash thru. It will then dry in a box in 24-36 hrs, no planing or freezing required. I am trying to measure the holes per inch on that screen but all I've done is so far is go cross eyed so far. Will try a picture and see if counting is any easier :)

I've had to do this but not for hash reasons. You're talking about one of those stainless steel mesh kitchen sieves... looks like window screen?
Think headstone rubbings. I put parchment paper over the screen and rubbed it with the side of a #2 pencil. That didn't work well so I used a piece of sketch charcoal I had laying around. IIRC it was 10x10 for 100 holes/sq in.

Damed if I did not try that. The problem I have is that the screen raeps away at the lead and when I take yhe paper off....all the lead slides right off.....I will revise until I get it to work........but good idea!

I have to apologize to the person on here who was the impetus for me finally trying this, I forget who you are but want to say thanks haha! But anyways, I took some dry sift and used my Nug Smasher in lieue of the hot water bottle. Worked pretty well! Need to experiment with some different times/pressures/temps.

Heres my starting material. It was harvested a couple weeks ago, dried overnight then stored in this pyrex

Tried to do this at 90 degrees F but found the Smasher didnt really like to stay that low. Kind of hovered between 95 and 100

30 seconds on the press around 50psi (this thing is not accurate at low mumbers)

One minute thirty seconds...

Three minutes and thirty seconds...

Took that and hand rolled it as I usually would. Shouldve pressed it again in hindsight

Folded it between presses by the way. Now its double bagged and stowed away for at least a month to cure! We'll see how she smokes sometime in February.
