Hydroton will wick proper, to a crown height of 21, 22 cm ( 8 inch )
Water level should fluctuate between 4 and 1 cm.

I have been diligently building a hydro table.
Automated watering, without electrics.

This can be done low-budget, and lo-tech.
Fittings and pumps are extravagant.
Essentially, you need an inch of water, in a 8 inch pail.
If you plan to recirc., go a 'lil bigger than. 3/4.
I could see where building your own pots could be advantageous in this method.

Anybody ever play around with mesh pots? I've seen Capulator use these a lot. I like the idea of wider and lower if used on a flood table.

Can be found online for about $1.50 each depending where you look. Commonly sold as ''aquatic plant baskets''.

Nope, but I like those. I wonder if the Floraflex clips would attach to the side to hold some drip line.

If you can figure out a way to automate your drainage, then there's no need to stop with hempy.

I have my buckets drain into a condensate pump that pumps my waste into my sewer line for instance.

When we went looking at houses I kept seeing new construction and would be like... nah, I like character! I like original curly maple floors! I like scrolled banisters and basswood molding!

Now I look at my house and I'm like... I'd like pvc drain pipes...

As a former Plumber, I completely understand.
Cast iron (I'm assuming that's what you have) is removable without snappers, but you need a crap ton of metal sawzall blades and batteries.

I've burnt up a few Milwaukee Fuel sawzalls in some tight crawlspaces over the years... :)

Been in a few myself...thank god for Sawzalls...be down there with a hacksaw and pipe cutter, just hating life

Well pulled the trigger today on an 8 bucket hempy setup, 200 bones for everything
8 square craftsman buckets with lids, 3 gal smartpots to use as liners for the buckets, gonna re use my old hydroton in the bottoms instead of perlite, figured the smarties would help with wicking, 1 inch pvc and Ts for the drain system planning on feeding via pvc directly into the bottoms with a soft line and old hydro pump dialed back, hoping I can figure it out and have feeding via a timer, media is gonna be coco tek bricks washed and sifted, mixed with 30 % coarse perlite and amended with happy frog dry feed, gonna run water and then Jack's 3-2 at low strength once I feel the amendments are used up, bennies will be great white used at the recommended hydro levels, hoping running sealed buckets helps with keeping the bennies healthy and plentiful and reduce humidity dramatically at the same time vs flood and drain. I'll Chronicle it all here or in my journal, seems there should be some more in depth info available to the community, I'll see what I can do ???

And for those of you that have run the hempy setups, how much if any did you guys amend your mix, I had great results with the happy frog stuff pictured but I know my Jack's mix is rock solid as well, figured a combo of the 2 would be a great duo if done properly
i 've tried a bunch of different mediums. i think the 3:1 perlite/vermiculite was the best.

Plans for a pvc drainage system are in the works, only thing I'm unsure of at the moment is how this happy frog dry amendment is gonna act in the buckets, hoping it's just a buffet for the bennies, hydrating, rinsing and buffering the coco as we speak, planning on filtering out the fines and going 70/30 coco perlite, I know how key good aeration is in the rootzone, especially with em sitting in the nute solution

i see the pic of the happy frog bag. do you have a link to what it is exactly? is it a coco amendment?

It's an organic dry amendment for soil im guessing, I had great results with it in a 70/30 coco perlite mix with both my outdoor veggies and the outdoor cannaladies, I mixed my coco and perlite with it at 2tablespoons per gallon of media, and im gonna let it cook in a tote for a week or so after I rewet it all with yucca extract and great white at the soil use levels
