I use a small/fine paint brush, dip it in the vial and tap the brush over the bud letting the pollen fall onto the pistols of the buds (dont touch the bristles to the plant). This allows me to do a lot with a little.
Do you have a dedicated tent for this? And if not, how long do you wait before putting the pollinated plant back into general population? Also, one thing I'm still trying to figure out is when to pollinate... do you base it off time, bud size, or some other indicator? Or is it just like a gut feeling thing...

Not answering for Red, of course, but I don't like to wait any longer than 4 weeks past flip to hit the female receivers, and 3 1/2 seems kind of a sweet spot. You need time for the seeds to finish, which can vary, but I always think a minimum of 6 weeks past dusting.

Agreed ?I just try and wait till I see a good amount of white . It's easy to hit them too early and then u are doomed to a small batch. 20 to 25 days seems close to average.imo

Aye, my concern is I tend to waste some because I'm still figuring out application methods haha. But hopefully your right! I have a few other cuts I'd love to hit with this if it goes far enough. Kokusho #8 x HS33 sounds good to me!
my wife has these tiny, single use makeup brushes for work, they're perfect for this application. I'm not finding any photos of them online, but yeah lol. the little tiny makeup brushes work well.

I do have a tent just for collecting pollen from males/reversals. I will usually dust females around the 3-4 week mark on the average 60 ish day strain. I like to have about 5 weeks of seed development time after dusting. When it comes to dusting just one recipient, I try not to do this as it just creates hassle and headache trying to keep everything seperate without worry of accidentally pollenating my sensi crop etc., but if you have to do this you can remove the female plant and dust it seperately in another tent/room. I use the same tubes to store pollen as I do to package seeds in. Turn off all fans or anything that will cause any air movement. Dip the brush into the pollen and tap your finger on the brush directly over the top of the bud(s). Allow the dust to gently "poof" right onto the white pistols of the bud. I can usually get 2 buds with one dip of the brush into the pollen. Dont let the bristles of the brush touch the female plant but get close. Repeat as necessary and you will find that there is virtually no waste of pollen. Once the plant begins to show brown pistols from the pollen taking (usually 2-3 days), you can then spray the plant down top to bottom including undersides (even the surface of the medium/soil and the pot) with just plain tap water. Let it dry and repeat for good measure. Once dry after the second spray you can probably move that plant back into the room with the others without too much worry of seeding your other sensi plants. I cant say I'd recommend dipping the brush into anything sticky on the plant. This will only make the pollen stick to your brush and not the female pistols where you want the pollen to stay. This is simply my technique that I've used for years. May not be right for everyone, but its perfect for me.

You've mentioned it twice now, but perhaps you can expand on why you * do not * allow the brush to touch the pistils.

It gets the bristles of the brush all mucked up and stuck together. Then the pollen sticks to the brush more than the pistols that were disturbed by rubbing the gobbed up brush against them. You cant make the pollen "poof" onto the buds and spread the precious pollen over an entire bud. When the bristles are gobbed up, its then comparable to doing it with a sticky toothpick and covering only a small fraction of the bud with 5x the pollen used. Like in the pic I attached, that brush will hold enough polen for 2-3 buds on a top cola when dipped once. The "poof" method makes my pollen go much, much further than when I used to brush directly onto flowers. No waste.

Dusted about half the branches on this unruly HS33... she's in the isolation tent and I'd like to keep her here to ensure there's no cross contamination but I may have to juggle my lights around to make that work since she's only under the HLG65 at the moment. 20210628_222037.jpg 20210628_222051.jpg 20210628_222047.jpg 20210628_222044.jpg

I couldn't find a brush so I tried using some pipettes like an atomizer for the pollen... it kind of worked. A few buds got too much pollen but all in all it was a good spread... and I only used about half the pollen so I'll have more to work with in the freezer when the time comes

Being that you aren't pumping up flowers, the hlg 65 should be plenty for seed growth. I have done bonsai sultan runs under a 2 bulb 4 ft shop florescent.
So I only dusted half of her because I am actually trying to get at least some smokable Sensi from her, which is why I want to get some more light on her. Having two cycles in a row be complete shitshows has led to the stash looking a little light!

When I am selectively hitting the female of choice with pollen, I prefer qtips. I usually have a good amount lined up inside a new Ziploc for the little bit of static. This helps keep the loose pollen trapped in the Ziploc. Once I use the majority of the pollen on the qtip I have a habit of mouthing them as I draw the next pollen dart as I call these loaded qtips, it again helps ensures no flyaways.

I do utilize the brush method too and I like to keep the brushes in the ziplock as well and I only use plastic ones with the synthetic brush for even more static cling.

Just the other day I decided to pollenate just a few flowers, and then being outside with no risk I just said #*@#$ it all, smash that boy against the harem and sort out the best later on after the finish lol. Sometimes it's just fun to have a heyday with the pollen as long as you don't mind the sinuses getting stung from it all.
