Sometime this year I’d like to switch from HID to LED for my flower room. I know I want to go with an HLG light. Cost is definitely an object, and I had settled on the 600 RSpec to replace my 1000w HPS. Here’s my question…

The 600 is $699 new but $549 refurbished…

But how much of an upgrade is the new 700 RSpec FR reflector series? It’s $100 more brand new, but $250 more compared to the refurbished. Would I regret not going with the newest product?

Note that the reduced height above canopy isn’t too big a deal for me, as I’m at 34-36” with my HPS and both LED’s improve upon that.

Yeah the r spec I would try to get a refurbished Diablo. But between those two are spec lights, I wouldn't think it would be that much of a difference . I feel like these new ones Just penetrate more and spread better. Jmo
Btw I'm still using HID and never thought I would switch over. I didn't want to pay for it either until I saw the refurbished Diablos I think I ended up paying 300 bucks for that light. Keep your eyes open. Stuff pops up on their site randomly ? and sorry if I got sidetracked I don't think it's worth it though your original question. ?
I was just looking and I would pay the extra 100 bucks for the diablos here versus the r spec. Or I would get two 350s. Screenshot_20230124-064800.png Screenshot_20230124-065039.png
So I wouldn't pay the extra money to stay with the r specs. But I would definitely pay the extra 100 bucks for Diablo.

Geez, you got me looking at lights again lol. I'm looking at the new r specs. Good price too but I'd still pay extra for the Diablo. I always lean towards trying to get two lights also for versatility reasons but it's cheaper to buy the bigger unit. Good luck! I'm stoked for you. It's always exciting looking at and getting new lights. With the tech today though you really can't go wrong. Just look for a good value. Anything close to a dollar A watt is stellar. This is all on hlg site. Screenshot_20230124-070000.png

Ok so this gets sooo confusing lol. There are a couple things marked “diablo” in the LED lamp section. There’s the Scorpion diablo, the scorpion diablo x, and now the 750 diablo. I can say that all of those are above my pay grade big time. Even the original scorpion diablo is $999 refurbished. So is the 750 diablo new. I sure would love to be around $600 (or less) but then I saw these new reflector janks and I was like “Should I spend 8 hun?” But this is an expensive slippery ass slope ?

Never considered two lights. Much to consider! This is why I still run HPS. If I have to learn all about LED lighting, I’m afraid I’ll have to forget some old thing I know because my high ass brain has reached capacity ? what if I forget how to ride a bike or some shit?

I just bought the medic led 8 on black Friday, got it for 470$. Was over $600. Haven't flowered with it yet, but it looks nice in the tent. 760watt I believe.

Appreciate the alternative, I really do. I’m not sure why I’m so set on an HLG. I guess it’s sort of like wanting that certain car or whatever lol

I'm the same way he'll always buy Toyota and Subaru. So the Diablo is just basically the new version, probably just a difference in configuration of diodes and whatever else. They have it on a variety of lights. My 350R has Diablo vs the old rspec . I thought about getting the big one but for me it's more versatile to have the two. Plus God forbid one of them shits the bed, You still got the other one. But that's just me. You should be able to get something all around a buck a watt . I got my 350R for 300 bucks. And that was refurbished with 10% off or whatever the sale was at the time . Some of the best money I've ever spent. I really never thought I would get away from the HPS, especially after the first couple boards I had. This one made me a believer. ?

U asked me so I asked HLG , what’s the diff in products and why?

Here is a link to a comparison page for the 2 Diablo spectrums from our website: Scoprion Diablo vs Scoprion Diablo X
The Scorpion Diablo 2.0, as well as the 750 Diablo are full-cycle fixtures and are going to maintain the original Diablo Spectrum. This is a universal spectrum that was designed to imitate sunlight.

The Scorpion Diablo X is also a full cycle light with a more cannabis centric spectrum. We refocused the design of this spectrum to decrease the amount of green and orange and increased the emphasis on the 440-460nm blue as well as 660nm deep red.

The 700 R-Spec FR has a spectrum solely designed for flower production. This is because of the addition of 730nm far red to the spectrum. With the Scorpion R-spec FR and HLG 700 R-spec FR, the ratio for blue/red and red/far red have been engineered to increase the photosynthetic rate. That means in increase in flower production due to increase in metabolism. If this fixture is run during veg, it will still increase metabolism, but it will present by causing the plants to stretch, so we do caution against using during the vegetative cycle.”

Thanks for this. I know one thing, if I could get a 650r like you did for a little over $400, it would be on its way lol

new led from hlg, my guess they are trying to have a led for every sqft needs. Respect that

Cobkits has Diablo boards and sinks for a pretty good price. Their still $100, so not necessarily a steal, but it’s a nice board!
Helps if you already have a driver.

I have gone back to cobs in one 3x3 frame and will have four Diablos in one frame. Not sure what it will be….other than “bright as duck”!

I have this growmau5 fixture that worked ok for about a year and then half of the leds on each puck began to quit working. The fixture has 4 pucks, but after I purchased I noticed that they began selling it with 3, same driver. I’m wondering if that had anything to do with it. Either way, I’d love to salvage the driver and make myself an hlg of some sort. I don’t have that much electrical knowledge and I’m constantly paranoid about running lights if I fuck with them… so if anyone could steer me I the direction of a fitting panel I can power with the driver that would be sweet. Here’s the driver and a led that ain’t worth a puck now

That’s a nice driver, don’t remember what those draw, but that should have been fine!
Not an electrician either, but it’s pretty simple, lots of sources for info.
Trade ya some seeds for it? :stoned:
j/k I was serious about sending them though!
To me, diy is the best way. It allows you to reconfigure based on what you doing.
If you area is fixed, the newer store bought models work good, but if it breaks, who you going to call?
Granted they don’t quit very often.
It also allows you to Johnny Cash the components.
Plug and play keeps it simple?

:ROFLMAO: This was no help, really just working on my post count!

Did u ever contact rapidled? I realize they don’t sell that led anymore but if u bought ur stuff within a warrenty time they should back their stuff or give ya a troubleshoot to see the next steps on what’s up. Just a suggestion if u haven’t done it already

edit: they still sell similiar led, if it was me I would ask and see what’s up. All led’s I’ve ever had a issue even not under warrenty company replaced the led ( happened twice)

I bullshitted on contacting them whenever the LED's started to short, then continued to use it for about a year. I guess I could reach out to them now and see what's good, but I'd rather just power a couple of those $100 diablos if I could. But then again, if rapid would just send new pucks, I would be happy to not spend any money. I'll shoot them an email now. Thanks for replying BH!
