So I had a 600 watt nanolux ballast blow and I’m ordering a replacement and decided to go with the quantum 1000 watt and hortilux super hps bulb combo from growershouse. The customer service rep calls me and tells me hortilux is no longer making ANY single ended bulbs and is concentrating on the LED market. Any die hard hortilux fans out there better get ‘‘em while u can. He offered me a fucking Plantmax bulb as a comparable alternative. We settled on a Ushio. Never had one before but we will see.

He offered you a Plantmax as a comparable alternative ? I've used Plantmax bulbs to save $$$, but certainly not as a comparable alternative to Hortilux !

Ushio makes great bulbs. If you order them on amazon always order at least two & test them both for over 24 hours. I've always had one out of an order from amazon act up or not fire & have to swap it out. But if you only order one & its faulty, your out another few days til the replacement shows up.

I usually blame amazon for the faulty ones due to their horrible packing jobs. I would get four bulbs in their original Ushio packaging just tossed into a box thats 2x too big, arrives beat to hell, & with a single piece of brown paper inside as the shock absorber/to take up the extra space.... I've never had an issue buying them directly from a hydro store ?
