The color code for the clay in this project is wc420 Redstone, it ends up red with a little brown after fired iirc.
I took a class at the famous Red Rocks Community College but have never stayed in a Holiday Inn Express.

Clay is a living form

It has a working limit and must rest at times.
I slam wedge to prepare the clay for work, this is where I feel the clay come alive, it seems to exsist simultaneously as a liquid and a solid.
Note the wire at the left side of the table

Cut the piece in half and slam it on the table.

Slam the other piece on top of it

Flip and slam it down again

Repeat 20+ times. This gets air out and allows clay to be infinitely recyclable untill it is fired.

Now its ready to work with

This is like heavy pizza dough

I work out a slab by slapping it down on the table peeling it up stretches it out hen slap it back down. Next is to transfer it to a working board so I can hand roll it with a piece of 4in pvc.

Check this question thread to help decide how these pots get made.
The poll in this question is meant for the comp I am hosting.

Feel free though to answer the question any way you want. The competion pots are a stone ware clay and can be fired in what is called an "open" or "closed" and anywhere inbetween.

Open firing allows water into and through the body. They hold water but are not waterproof. The pots can appear wet.

Closed firing makes the form as sealed as possible without creating a blob in the kiln. Generally still porous but wont appear wet.

The catch - do you use bennies? If so I think open form is better, otherwise I think I like the closed form. Your choices are as follows:
Cone 4 - Open
Cone 5 - Middle ground
Cone 6 - Closed

Got one done this morning.
