How well will a double end 630 cmh flower a 4x4 tent ?

So I've been looking at light rails recently. Does this allow you to cut down on the number of lights you need to cover a larger amount of space? I've seen studies that say a plant doesn't need a constant high intensity of light throughout the day to grow well.. which makes sense because you're not getting constant high intensity outdoors in most cases.
Yes it does

key with a light rail is your putting this light and letting it move to focus its higher ppfd chart everywhere, in nature you don’t get constant 100% high ppfd and youll even see certain grows now they will even have in their veg a lights “on” and “off” making it so plants think it’s cloudy but awake and this makes it so they can use 2x lines with same power in their veg/mom rooms. People today are if not using too much light and this is why even in flower you’ll see stress and people over doing it.

the light rail is a very nice way to make ur light move back and forth and you could for a veg room only have one cmh in every 4x8 moving around vs 2

i know the plants can take 2, but do they really need in veg stage? Answer is yes they can but it’s wasteful . if you get a light rail make sure to buy the replacment light rail wheels . they last along time even when the light rail has to lug two heavy lights , on led’s it would be bitter and prolly never even wear em out.

if heats not ur issue i suggest using like (2) hlg 150’s vs cmh and youll get a better coverage and have em on light rail . If this is only for one 4x4 than u only need one . this year I removed all my cmh and so far it’s working ( deh pushes a lot of heat , so I don’t have to use heater)

if heat is needed when colder I’ll temp replace one of the hlg’s and put it there . Electric heaters are costly to run

Appreciate the info a ton BH. I'll be using some LEDs that are pretty lightweight. Do you use the rail during flower with just one light? I have a big space I'm trying to figure out if I can use less lights even throughout flower by using a light rail. Because the amount of light I would need to use otherwise isn't ideal.

Not trying to butt in but lol, I have ran two DE 1000w fixtures in a 7 x 20 room on a light rail with good results. Had 33 plants in 2 gallon pots in there and got 2.6 lbs per light. I know it's not the best but this was with junky auto flower genetics that hermed out like a mofo. So with no experience growing under any hps fixtures or in that environment, I called it a success by just finishing and having some smokable product at the end. So I believe without a doubt that with good genetics and a better controlled environment it could have been way better. Can't blame the rail for sure.

What kind of foot print were you covering?

I was running fluence leds but I’m liking the cmh right now.
Imho I've found my 315 cmh in between two good led board fixtures does a wonderful job with the mix of light spectrums.
Though I will add that I loved my cobs when I had them. Really thinking of readdressing my old cob rigs, give them a reconfigure, and set em up in the flower room.

There are tricks for cmh. But to answer your question, 1x 630cmh will be perfect. If you have the option to use 1x flower bulb and 1x veg bulb in the hood, go for it. They make/made a 2 in 1 bulb (vag and flower in 1 bulb) for a single 630 hood. I've been using cmh for a long ass time. Back in the day of testing on the farm.

I have a dual bulb cmh315 but thinking I’ll need another ??? I dunno I was running leds but know looking into other options

2x315w cmh bulbs in 1 hood in a 4x4 is damn near perfect. If you were in a sealed room, I'd recommend co2 (as long as your dialed in). I ran single 315 cmh in air cooled hoods and improved quality (weight, frost) vs hps bulbs. I also ran 4x gavita 1600 panels for 2 days, and went back to the cmh setup (4x 315 cmh, air cooled hoods, sealed room, 1400ppm co2, dialed in).

Half of the plants are going outside for outdoor purposes the other half I will flower we will see how it goes . I know it’s overstuffed but half will be out before I flower I must say that the TK Bandanaman strain cross (strayfox)is one of the keepers along with Night Moves , Hairy Legs ,SuperCar, Marshmallow Hashplant

VERY WELL !

600 dollar DE top of the line fixtures here are like 100 bucks... LED wiped em out.

But....grow under HPS and get back to me with your complaints.... the buds are rocks

Bulb life and wattage is all...but a 1000 HPS puts out 1000 grams... of FIRE ROCKS...or do it again.

This my first move away from LED and just found a 600HPS for nearly nothing I think I’m going to throw that in with the cmh I’ll keep you posted. Don’t get me wrong I loved leds but am trying other avenues thanks for the input
600 hps is rocking it too...man people shit on HPS but i run a 1000 HPs in winter with a ushio ultra red.
That ROCKS the space plants can get the light under. buds like a deck of cards in a sphere....i am too high for a better analogy
5 pin bowling ball....omg so canuck...

600 hps is Fantastic for a 4 x 4.

Grow on man...no worries.

I went from 1x600 in a 4x4 tent (veg and flower had its own tents. Then to 2x315 in a 5x10 tent for veg, and 4x315cmh in a 8x12' built room for flower. Then swapping 4x315 for 4x gavita 1600 panels. Then removing the gavitas and back to 4x315 only after 3 days.
Curious as to what prompted the 3 day switch back from the gavitas? Have heard they were pretty good, though I've never used them.
