Indoor lighting

Hi guys, I've been contemplating growing indoors for quite some time. Rdwc, Dwc, hempy, pots. Till I make a decision there I thought I better get other things going that won't change. I've got an insulated room 8ft wide, 8ft long 8ft ceiling . Or 2400mmx2400mm X 2400mm in metrics
Interested in leds big time.
Can indoor guys give me recommendations for what I should be using. Also can I just flip the room to flower instead of moving to another?
Go easy fellas, outdoors and preparing my ground 4 months in advance is my lane on the hwy usually. Wanting to do some seed runs and breeding indoors, clones etc and early starts for outdoor season. Thanks in advance

You can buy electronic ballast hid light kit on Amazon that come with both a metal halide and hps bulb so you can veg under mh and swap out to the hps bulb for flower.

If you go the led route you'll need two sets of lights for veg and flower.

You can absolutely just change the timer on the light from 24 (or 18/6) to 12/12 to go from veg to flower in your 8x8. You might want to consider the logistics of the grow if you plan to do cuts/mommas/seedlings etc and still be flowering. Maybe look into a small veg area seperate from the 8x8 or even a small tent in the flower room so you can do your veg stuff and still be flowering/pollen chucking etc at the same time. Have you figured out exhaust/heating/cooling etc for the 8x8 yet?
Depending on your rooms setup, you may possibly benefit from using HPS/MH HID lighting vs led?
If you can give us a break down of your room/plans/equipment, we may be able to offer up more tailored advice.

G'day fellas, I've got a spare 20ft refrigerated container I was going to convert some of the space with. Can do a room with seedlings, cuts and pollen chucking for sure @HydroRed
What's the difference between HPs and led @thenotsoesoteric
I thought everyone was going for led for cost effective on power bills and when you dont require excess heating from bulbs. Like I said. Point to a plot of land and I'm your guy, indoor is a new beast

Hps/mh or whats called hid (high intensity discharge) lighting is cheaper upfront cost and create heat and uv light.

Led is more expensive upfront but cheaper in the long run. Lights produce less heat but no uv light unless its newer generation which typically comes with some sort of ir or uv supplement.

Leds run best when room temperature is 80-85f. Hid is better in 70-75f range but may require external cooling ie air conditioning.

Pretty much no different if you are just starting out. But for us old heads that cut our teeth on hid there was a bit of a learning curve due to the difference in environmental demands.

If money isn't an issue I'd say go led from the get. If you can have veg room and bloom room get any light between 5000k-6500k spectrum for veg and light any where between 2700k-3500k for flower.

If you want just one set of lights for both just go with 3500k and you should be all good.

Me being strictly led now I love it but I think all of us indoor guys can agree nothing is better than opening your tent and seeing the glow of your 1000watt hps seeing that you just know that bulb is putting in some work lol but the led game is pretty much equal with hps now from what I’ve seen

Kingbrite is legit if you go Alibaba. So is Meijiu. I run both those boards and they work great.

HLG is the OG quantum board guys. Can't go wrong with them.

Beyond that, I can't keep up with newest tech so you'll have to shop around and see what these guys suggest.

If you have the extra money go quantum/cob or strip LED and save yourself the headache of fighting with the environment (heat), have a nicer daylight spectrum to work under and take photos of, typically you get a better spread/coverage with quantum or strip LED lighting, zero noise (no screaming digital ballast fan) and then of course the electrical savings. Removal of your AC is a huge savings that I noticed immediately. Now I use a single exhaust fan, no AC whatsoever.

The day I switched it was like a deafening silence in my room in comparison to all the gear I had going with HPS. Just my two cents, from an old school HPS grower.

Reefer trailer is a fine grow room.
Secure, light-tight, insulated.
Smashing idea.

Do you have a dock?
Are you decommissioning the trailer?
Wondering about convenience of access.

,,, just realized a guy could do an open top container/trailer light dep grow.
Only slightly off topic.

Rippers are low-life belly crawlers, they will always be slinking around, close to the ground. Still; average folks don't often consider what is happening over-head.

I like your idea.
Plain sight magic is my favorite.

68 acres mate, came with the farm and a site shed while I build our house.i use it currently for storing all my concrete and paving gear. Brick saws, Whiteman choppers vibrate plate etc.
Can move them to a new spot after I finish build but still can build in atleast half container while in meantime. Have space still for that.

Ya I would get with Vicky since your not in the states and I know she will ship anywhere that's going to be the best deal for you...
There QBs and cobs are good to go..
I'm Sure there strips are too, ask jaq. If you want to go with strips...
If you can use 12ft of that trailer I would think a 8x8 flower room and a 4x4 veg area the other 4x4 area use for your stuff and a chair maybe

Thanks mate, who is Vicky and jaq?
Keen to get stuff going before next season starts down under. If I can get an extra month veg into them I'll be stoked. Clones and seed runs. I'm going to preserve a heap of landraces I'm getting from Khalifa. Thank you for the heads up. Splitting it sound good too. Just more lights haha

Kingbrite's w55 strip lighting is totally legit. I almost went with it. Comes with built-in heatsinks. I may still order some 2700K of that lighting if they'll make it for me, to fill in some areas.

Vicky is one of the reps that works at Kingbrite... You gotta message her to complete your order from Alibaba... I could be wrong, but I think im Jaq... Im running the Quantum Bars from KB and I love them. Im running them side by side with Migro Arays (which are twice the price) and they are out preforming them in pretty much every department.

Here is the particular model I ordered with the upgraded Cree IR and LG UV diodes. I think they can get a little cheaper if you go with stock options...
