Jacks 321

Just switched to jacks a few weeks ago, so far so good! Been watering 5 gallons at a time, 18g part A, 6 grams epsom salts, and 12 grams part b. One thing I've noticed is that some of the upper fan leaves seem to be rotating to be on like a 45 degree axis. Any idea if something in the new feeding schedule could be causing this? Its the only variable I've changed lately. Thanks!
this is an interesting observation. do you mean individual leaflets twisting ends at a 45 degree angle? or the entire leaf rotating on the petiole?

it stopped doing it but the entire leaf rotating on the petiole. they look like they had been spiraled around something. I had forgotten about that now but i'll go check when the lights go on.

i have never seen that. i have seen plants under intense lighting twist the outer half of each leaf late in the period as if they were avoiding light.

presenting the edge of the leaf instead of the top surface.

i've been using jack's since march of 2010. under both hps and leds.

under intense lighting with leds i find i have to run a stronger mix than under the same power level of hps.

so i think this means that the leds are driving photosynthesis more efficiently than hps.

why i'm not sure but i think it has to do with the IR from the hps.

i never added extra mag with hps and jack's but now i do.

I have this occur now and then.
My thought in my setup is that I've got multiple types of lighting goin on and I think a leaf may catch that one bright diode and seek it out.
Lol, nothin scientific, just an observation lol.

Thanks for the ideas guys. This should make things a lot quicker.

This feed chart is from them directly and you can omit what you’re not using and it’s showing per 100 gallons so it seems it would be easy to divide it down to your res size. I hope I understood you correctly. I know there was someone else who just took a bunch of part a, part b and epsom and dissolved a shit load in their own RO and then was using it like liquid nutes but I’ve never done it that way. Other than the mixing how are you feeling about Jacks @spyralout ?
Thanks for the link. I like Jacks so far, it’s a bit too early to tell how it performs for me, the plants are almost starting to bud. It’s a lot less messy/gunky than Megacrop. GH3 modified Lucas was easy, I had gallons w pumps and measured with little beakers. It would take very little time to add to each res top off. Jacks has been in between those two methods, I can see it being better once I make enough solution to last me a week or so at a time.

@spyralout I do 100 gallons of part A And B at a time got containers for kool-aid etc from the dollar store they have the measurements on the side and are clear, I do 3.6 2.4 and 1.2 so I'll put 2000mls Into the container then add 360gs of part A and 120gs of Epsom then top it up to 2500mls and shake for a few mins, same process with the part B but it's 2000 mls to 240gs then top to 2500mls, then just use em at 25mls per gal based off what ec your shooting for if I want less ec I'll just do like 17 gals worth of part A and B to 20 gals in the rez, and bump up as needed
This is a good idea. The measurements on the containers would be as simple as pouring it out from the container into the res vs measuring it in a separate vessel.

a while back I took @CaptC 's advice and made a concentrate first and then added x amount of that to x amount of water. After the first time weighing out the Jacks.......I put it into a clear container......then marked the height with a sharpie....the one container has all 3 marks on it and it's muy rapido to measure it out perfectly each time. To hell with weighing it after that ;)
I might give this a go, a quick visual measurement would definitely save time and hassle of breaking our a scale.

What’s the modified Lucas formula with GH3 you speak of? I have some of that stuff I still use occasionally as it just works and with visible results, clean also. Hope your feeling better Spyralout, enjoy the weekend brother ✌?

It was something Red showed me which used equal parts of Micro and Bloom vs the ratios Lucas had. I used whatever was needed to achieve the PPM I wanted. It performed well and made both nutes run down at the same time so I wouldn’t need to buy one before the other.

Just saw this stuff for the first time, do any of y'all use it in conjunction with the 321?
Yes, but it really has a limited window in which to use it. At that recommended period, a 25lb bag will last you a long ass while. I use it for my outdoor by itself, no problems. It takes a lot less to come to your PPM value than 321 as well. It's also blue in color if you didn't know.

Okay thanks! So it looks like it's for use during flower onset? So do you use it between like, weeks 1 and 3 or something?

I only have 3 grows under my belt, so this is just what I do know. Lol
I feed using the Jack's 321,
I week before I flip to flower,
I start feeding only the Bloom,
Continuing for the first 2 weeks of flower. 5.6 grams per gallon.

I have had a few plants exhibit the beginning of what I believed to be,
A nitrogen deficiency, so I just add 1 gram of part B , to the mix.
That seemed to stop it.

I don't feel qualified to give much input,
But just wanted to contribute what little I do know.

If I do this correctly,
Here's a link to some smaller amounts.

Thanks for the inputs y'all. I'm a bit of a doomer and see a future where we WILL encounter mass food shortages on a global scale in 2023/24 and onward. This Article, although few months old, is a good summery of our current state, although the war is not letting up. I think that we may have not seen anything yet as far as the inflation in the price of food. So, each year I work on becoming a better vegetable gardener, I work on my skills of preserving the food, and planning how to do it more efficiently each year. So in regards to that whole 25lb bag, I think the smart move would be to buy as much as you can of all nutrients now, and in my case, I"m going to break it down into 5lb bags and vacuum seal and keep them in dry storage. If i'm wrong, cool, I just learned a lot about self reliance. If i'm right....well shit, I get to eat.

Food hoarding tip... (no joke)....

Get lots of rice...get it in the big sacks...use your vac sealer to seal it air tight...bug proof in smaller bags.
Dried beans too.

Rice and beans....after a year we will kill everyone ...but you can live on it.
