Could you see this as a way to preserve genetics long term? Take a culture and a store in a cold enough environment to slow everything way down. I built my DIY version of a flow hood to make an attempt at this. But am still too intimidated to finalize things and try.
I made a 2' square box. There's a 12" x 12 " air intake with hepa filter on the top panel. Inside is a 2500 cmf fan attaxhed to front wall blowing into an attached 2' W x 2' H x 3'L glass box .
Part I have to finished is the 2' x 2' x 12" hepa filter. It needs to be planed down an 1/8th of an inch to fit in place. When building glass box I built a wood frame and used silicone adhesive to secure the glass inside that frame. Well the top glass panel sagged a little when drying so my exact fit filter no longer fits exactly. I need to stop procrastinating and make an attempt at some point. I'll get a pic of my Franken hood in a few.

Of course. In fact, many companies like mine do exactly that and creating a library of elite moms that just live on a shelf. Do they need love, yep. Do they need it like a normal plant, nope. You could think of it as the need to water your plant once every other month or less.

If you are going to build your own box the primary consideration of utmost importance is to match your blower to your filter. To do this you need to understand static pressure and ALL fans/blowers have a static pressure chart and ALL HEPA filters contain specifications with what pressure/volume is required. Laminar Flow Hood - Build a HEPA filter flowhood | Fungifun

Really, if you have ever done any myco work than this just got a lot less scary. Aseptic technique is aseptic technique. Besides, contamination is cool and part of the learning curve!

My big ass blower has a speed control so I'll have to see if I can dial it in enough. My hepa filter is 12" deep so the equation they use may be off for my purposes.
I read that I could test it for appropriate flow with a candle. Should blow the flame without putting it out and be consistent throughout. Would have to reread to find the distance to hold candle from filter for test to be accurate enough.
There will be a 10" glass chamber between fan wall and back side of filter, 12" of filter then 14" of clean air work space. (theoretically?)
I hadn't thought about a prefilter before the hepa but I have the ability to add one pretty easily the way I built the box.
So intrigued yet so obviously over my head. Thanks for the link I will be digging in more in depth later.

Yes to prefilter, and or prefilter to prefilter That 12" HEPA isn't cheap!
12x 24 x24 HEPA and a ~742CFM 8" Hurricane is a great start (Speed control is a good control but not likely needed.)
Yes to candle/lighter flame
Remember to never place your hand, or any item between the airflow and the jar/tube/dish.
Dude, it is not over your head. Stand tall, you've got this.
Happy to help talk it all out

Here are some pics of what I've got. All my supplies in the crates living where the filter should be right now. Have everything I should need. I think. Even bought a cool magnetic stirrer. Lol.

Get It!!

You could mount a UV lamp in there to run for 30 minutes before you begin. Here are the ones that my buddy makes. I have ordered the fan and two 24x24x6 filters and I think that it was about $700 total but I also have a spare HEPA now.

Notice the reinforced handles so you can move it by yourself. Furnce prefilter that we lay poly mats over so it acts like a prefilter to the prefilter.

So i took this blackwater down. I did not do so well. Ended up fading super early instead of packing on and had to nurse her gently the rest of the way. Could have yielded way more but at least she finished up decent ?.

I got to thinkin.. should we start you up a testing thread in the appropriate forum and leave this to be your more personal journal? I believe there is a tester spot here somewhere

Hi

For some reason i put a Nigerian X Granny in a 2 litre pot...thats where that went !

She would be a pretty big plant if i had of put her in bigger shoes. Would i be better off leaving her alone or up potting her to a 1 gallon?

she is week 2 of flower.

I'd up-pot her. Its nice to see the Nigerian influence the plant enough to stretch it out. The Granny's are really dense plants

I’ve grown much bigger in smaller.. weeks into flower.. I better not argue with the Jedi tho or I’ll get severed in half with a lightsaber. ? Me and my tiny pots.
I just like the control I have in small containers especially when I’m not familiar with the strain. Slick handling. Big pots get away from me sometimes. Like a big V8 muscle car. I’d be the guy that does a burn out and then wraps it round a pole.
