Just bought a nugsmasher mini, any help?

Hello everyone, just like the title says, and I have never pressed anything really. What tools or accessories should I be looking for. I picked up the essential flower bundle or whatever. So it comes with a few things. But im all ears, at least until the wife finds out and cuts them off. She's probably not going to be as happy as I when she finds out. Hahahaha. Thanks in advance for any help.

There’s a couple of pressing threads around here... I just started to get into it... @Deebs is the resident expert. Heres a couple of tips... prepress and this little collection plate were clutch pickups for me...

I think Jag mentioned a lot of the basics. prepress, 90u or 120u extraction bags for flower ( you can use others but I stick with these), 25u - 45u for rosin, Collection plate, and a flat collection tool will help. I keep my stuff in the freezer until use. Throw it back in to get cold when needed. Not too versed in the nugsmasher as I am using a dabpress. So I can't help with all the mechanics, but I can help with the processing. If you have any small glass type jars that are air tight, would be good for collection. Reynolds parchment, or Kirkland (Costco) is decent.

Excellent, yeah I'm new here, so im going to use that excuse as long as possible in place of my stoned stupidity. Hahaha. But I did look, I didn't see a whole lot so I figured I'd start this up. Right spot?

Cool. Thanks. Yeah, the nugsmasher seems pretty straightforward as far as basic use. I'm sure it'll take some hands on before I "know" what I'm doing. My main thing is I'm a firm believer in the right tool for the job makes all the difference, so I'd like to make sure I'm collecting all the correct accoutrement. Haha. But it sounds like, as always, I'm probably putting too much thought into it and about to over complicate things. Basic tools and mixed bag of micron sizes and I should be good. What about bleached and unbleached parchment? And should I get the "special" parchment and not cut corners at the grocery store? Thanks again for the help.

I recommend Kirkland Parchment (bleached). I have used many and this one is near the top..cheap especially if you press a lot.
As you press with a manual press..you will begin to "feel" the press. For flower my starting temps are 200d F, for about 90 seconds. Note: I suggest two presses per puck to begin. Lots of folks make butter from the spent pucks. Each strain will press a bit differently so experimentation is the key.

I also suggest that smaller amounts will press better than larger pucks. Press slowly, gradually increasing pressure. There is really no need to go full force on most good presses. ie: mine has a gauge, and I have never gone beyond 6500 PSI.
I can't suggest an amount for your Nugsmasher since mine is different. I have the 4x7" that can press up to an ounce at a time..Rarely do I press more than 14grams per press.
Also I don't bother with filter bags (my bad), but I do use a prepress mold so I hardly ever get a blowout (preheating the puck for 20-30 seconds helps too)

I have been thru 4 presses and used to test for Dukytek. Current press is a Dabpress 12 ton w/ 4x7 inch plates

I highly suggest googling Pure Pressure for videos ..imo they are the best

Pressing Rosin is an art,,something that comes with practice. IT'S ALSO A LOT OF FUN!
Enjoy

Thank you, very much!!! I looked at the pure pressure. Looks like a great second machine. I couldn't justify their entry level cost at this moment. Once I get a few hundred presses in I'm sure I will outgrow this one. I did a good bit of research and was down to the nugsmasher mini and the rocket press something. I always forget that ones name. Anyway, I highly doubt it will be my last as I have what the doctor's call a "toy addiction" hahaha. That's not what my insensitive wife calls it though. She's waaaay more descriptive. Hahaha. Hey, thanks a ton... See what I did there?..damn I'm getting old, dropping dad jokes online even. Thanks for your help, tremendously appreciated.

You're very welcome.Think of it this way..an established Rosin presser can press with great results from a mediocre press and a Rosin hacker will get poor product from an expensive press. Sure the Pure Pressure rigs are amazing, but for most home users are out of reach. I think that after all is said and done..you will get much more for your $$ from your Dabpress unit. The Pure Pressure guys technique we can duplicate though.

This guy is another favorite.

This is my current press, followed by some rosin porn:
Had their 3x5 model but wanted the larger plates so...........

I do agree with you there. Hope I'm not bothering you too much, I do have one more question, maybe, if you don't mind? Of the units out there, why did you pick the dab press? It looks pretty cut and dry, no frills. Which seems to keep cost down a bit. But im sure that's different model to model. I guess another question I actually have is, pneumatic, electric, etc...... Is there a benefit, like a better "feel" to the press or something? Sorry so many questions, I just have an issue with not knowing things. I don't like it. Haha. Thanks again.

No bother at all. I chose the Dabpress for a few reasons. 1) Fit and finish (brass Ball bearing sleeves) 2) CS, 3) Good quality electronics 4) Price.

I like the units with a separate pump as the bottle jacks are known to leak and are harder to replace. I have tried a bunch of different presses as I was testing the Dulyteks. I found that while fast and easy, you can't control the press with automatic functions as well as the presses that are manual. Pneumatic presses need a noisy compressor (mine is out in the garage), and you can't "feel" the puck as you can with your Nugsmasher unit..The more PSI the pump can put out, will make the effort that you expend easier on the old body (and mine is very old..LOL)

By feeling the press..I mean that as you press and rosin flows out..the press will begin to lose it's PSI. As that happens, more gradual pressure is needed to maintain PSI, so by feeling how the puck reacts and watching my gauge, I know when and how to apply more pressure. Too much pressure can cause blowouts and you will get waxes and lipids in your product.

If I weren't so lazy..(seriously lazy..LOL) I would use a filter bag, but I have an old jewelry ultrasonic cleaner that I use to keep my quartz bangers clean.

If I can help..plz don't hesitate.

Some old and past presses, that I was testing for Dulytek..+ the Dabpress 10 ton 3x5 which I sold off only to get the larger model. Nice thing was that Dulytek gave me the presses for helping and I got decent $$ when I sold them on Ebay, so I could get the Dabpress models.
