Seeds don't really fall off..... I dry the whole plant then crumble it up and let the seeds separate. Picking them out is tuff if the plant is still alive and you smush the rest of the buds while trying to pick out the seeds.
If you want to pollinate the whole plant then do it and let the 6 weeks run by then harvest your seeds. Not sure why you'd want to keep the plant going if you're only after seeds.
When I dust a whole plant but want to keep a few un polinated buds (sinsemilla) I put a bag over the buds I don't want pollinated then I dust the rest of the plant. I wait a day then spray it down with water to kill the rest of the pollen then take the bag off the preserved buds.

OH and one more thought about afterwards...
I dry out the plant before harvesting the seeds then I separate the seeds from the dry plant material (my own specific way). I'm a BHO guy so once I have separated the seeds I blast the remaining dry plant material and get about a 10% return in BHO. Cost me $5 for the butane and I get 5-6 grams of shatter return from 2oz of dry de-seeded plant material. You could run it as bubble hash or press in a rosin press. I just my like Resin. ;-)
If you try to remove the seeds while the plant is still fresh all the trichomes will stick to your fingers. If you let it dry first you can sift them off and keep them.

Yeah, when talking about picking them out, I mean the ones that are splitting the calyx, and mainly if that calyx has browned and split. Those are the ones that would most likely drop the seed and / or be a possible mold catalyst, IME. Thankfully, they just pop right out pretty easily between a thumb and finger nail. Calyx and all- No clumsy bud smooshing here yet...

I don't keep my males and females together for a few reasons, so I can't really just let em open pollenate, nor do I want to, most of the time. I like to keep track of what goes where, especially if I'm making multiple crosses in a run, which isn't rare.

I keep male and female plants a couple floors and hvac systems apart, and do targeted pollenations by hand (literally, by finger tip) a bud or branch at a time. It usually works very well, and I can expect 20-50 seeds per 1/4-1/2g (unseeded sized) bud.

I'll keep these males together, collect, and mix the pollen, and selectively hit the girls as they're ready. I'll dust the majority of the branches for preservation, but keep a couple down below for at least a little of the Afghan pollen that's about to drop as well.

Everything will be kept as pure as possible with a combination of distance, plastic, timing, and moisture.

-First, I'll put a plastic produce bag (FREE at the grocery store, and great to cover branches) over the bud/branch I want to dust.
-Spray plant with water
-Remove produce bag
-Gently finger pollenate the target with a mask on, and no moving air in the room.
-Wash hands
-Cover with a plastic produce bag, let it sit still over night, so the pollen slides down into the calyx
-Spray the whole plant H2O
-Remove Bag
-Spray pollenated branch H2O
-Put plant back in the bloom

If the same plant is to be pollenated by a different male, I'll repeat the process a day or so later.

The reason I would keep the plant going is because this isn't just for seeds. Yeah, that's the main objective, but if there aren't any reports on how it finishes, I doubt anyone will want to gamble the time or space on them...making the reproduction a waste of time in the first place...
I know I sure as hell don't want to waste the time and space, cut it short, and give it an unfair chance at impressing me lol

Come harvest time, I'll probably end up grinding the flowers and separating the seeds manually aka the disc method. The plants are only in quart sized pots, so I'm guessing an ounce each at most. If it becomes tedious, I may make a winnower like I've seen here.

We're a majority flower consumption household here, either smoking or in the Volcano, so the ground herb will just be one step taken earlier than normal.
I haven't made BHO in at least 5 years, but it was a fun little project at the time. I think I still have my rig around here somewhere...But not the equipment to make it.
I just haven't had huge amounts of trim to work with at a time lately, and even less desire to process it.
I'd like to revisit cobbing soon though, if I had any bulk harvest to let sit for any extended time...

More updates and pics tomorrow. The boys got a new home, new light, and new neighbors...damnit!

Been a rough couple weeks around here, but things are going well overall with the plants.
Grand total was 7 males and 2 females, once the latest boys decided to show.
Of the 2 females, 1 is a tall, lanky one, and the other is a shorter, more stacked pheno.
Pollen collection has begun, and pollenation will probably start tonight.
I've got a bunch of pics, but haven't been able to go through them yet to post. I'll try to get some up this weekend though.

Took me long enough to get here. Subbed.

Hope you're doing alright, what a fun time to be alive, huh?

Welcome to the thread! Hopefully it'll get more interesting, and photo heavy in the coming weeks, for everyone's entertainment.

I'm doing ok, just pushing through the days like everyone else, and trying to remember to appreciate them all as they fly by!
Thanks for the concern, and have a great weekend!

How in TF did I miss this? Good shit mang. If you’re talking about La Llorona she’s big around here. Right by the river. Both plants and the legend. She does take care of the plants though.

Yo side note. When I was checking on La Llorona and the plants. I ran across an abandoned 455 Pontiac just sitting in the field. Weed growing through it n everything. Maybe @Jewels might know of what it is? Had a “70s Nova-Chevelle rounder body” not like the longer bodies of earlier years. Engine looked solid like it would fire right up. Gah I wish I had a cam at the time but it really was guerrilla type shit so I had nothing on me.

Hey @MacGydro how'd this project turn out?

Uh, yeah, it's probably about time for a 17 wk update, eh?
Crazy how time flies- Can't believe I haven't posted since friggin December!

I'm getting the pics and text ready today... (writing takes me forever to get all the thoughts out and in an order I'm happy with)
BUT I'll have an update tonight since you guys stopped in to ask!

The project is still in progress, but just barely. We're just about to the finish line...

Ha, Yeah, I think I added the "La" at the beginning, and its just supposed to be Llanera, meaning "from the plains" or similar.
I always think of La Llorona too when I say it though lol

Firebird?

Yeah, or LeMans comes to mind as well... Would be a helluva find either way, if it's salvageable!
We drove from Detroit to Arkansas for a fishing trip in '19, and there were so damn many "car lots" along the way which were basically graveyards of antique muscle.
We just had to stop and drool at a few along the way.
Lots of Impalas, Chevelles, and basically anything you could think of from the last 100 years or so.

Be back in a bit with pics and more details on the Colombians...

Here's a brief update and a couple shots from 30 and 33 days, of the 2 Colombian Black gals, and the 7 boys, respectively.

This would've been just a few days before pollination. I have a couple pics of pollination day to get uploaded next time, as well as more details.
I just got sidetracked earlier, and didn't end up making this update as in depth as planned.

More to come soon...

Looking back at pics, these CBs were pollinated the next day, which would've been day 34.
Here's some pics of them on boom boom day. They were hit on most of the branch sites, minus the branches with bags over them. Those branches were dusted a bit later with Afghan 90 x Black Afghan pollen.

IMG_0242ColombianBlack6Day34Flower.JPG IMG_0240ColombianBlack10Day34Flower.JPG IMG_0244ColombianBlacksPollinationDay.JPG

These were the boys after being consolidated from pots to a fishbowl for collecting the last of the pollen.

I didn't get a whole lot of pics after this, but I'll see what I can dig up.

Scrounged up a few more parting shots of the Colombian Blacks.

First is a shot of #10, The shorter, stockier one, at about 6.5 weeks. She's hanging on a rack with the Afghan crosses she grew along side.
The Gwniver (BB x Afg) by Jim Dandy are on either side, and you can see a couple of the Afghaan 90 x Blk Afghans below those.
As you can see, mildew is a persistent threat, but the Colombians weren't affected nearly as much as the others.
The Gwnivers were like mildew magnets though.

IMG_0267ColombianBlack10Day46Flower.JPG

More of #10, but at 65 days here. It's a little tough to tell from these pics, but she's started to purple on the calyxes by now.
IMG_0298ColombianBlack10Day65Flower.JPG IMG_0299ColombianBlack10Day65FlowerB.JPG

Here's one of the last shots I got of #6, aka the taller, stretchier pheno. She suffered a dry day shortly before these were taken, and never fully recovered, unfortunately. She wasn't very photogenic here, and only got worse. There are very little seeds compared to her sister, so the majority will be the shorter, blacker pheno's offspring, crossed with pollen from the 7 males.
IMG_0300ColombianBlack6Day65Flower.JPG

This is the #10 pheno at harvest time, just over 15 weeks. She didn't finish up the most pretty either, but at least there's a few beans to hunt through in the future.
IMG_0376ColombianBlack10Harvest108DaysA.JPG IMG_0377ColombianBlack10Harvest108DaysB.JPG

So, yeah, they both went pretty long, as advertised. I ended up taking the shorter one (#10) around 15.5 wks, and letting the taller one (#6) go til about 19 weeks.

The taller pheno actually reminded me a lot of the Mango Biche side of the Dread Breads I've grown from Bodhi.
I initially thought of the smell as Limey, but smelling it a few times, it may be more along the lines of Mango. It was super interesting to get hit with the smell again in these Colombians, so I wonder how close some Colombian Black and Mangobiche genetics might be...

The #10 pheno smells more on the darker berry / spicy / savory side of things, for sure.

I'll be popping a few of each pheno's beans soon to check viability. I'll probably run them 11/13 from seed, to see what happens, and if I can keep em a little happier next time.

I also still have a bunch of Colombian Black pollen left, so I may hit something again soon, just to see if it's still good too.
The next thing I have ready to dust will be a Watermelon Delight that just went in flower, but it will be a couple weeks.
Gears are definitely starting to slowly squeak though, as I wonder how a Watermelon Delight x Colombian Blk might turn out.... ? ?

Very nice! We appreciate you running such a long flowering strain for the community. Indica's are my meds of choice, but I do love me a space faring Sativa. I am test and preserving constantly so I'll only flower Sativa's outdoors. Kudos amigo (y)

Whew, I wish I had the climate to flower Sativas outside!

These were definitely a bit of a chore, but not too bad. I’m definitely a little disappointed in myself, but there are a few hundred more beans than we started with.
If I get a chance, I’ll make more seeds with this next run too, and hopefully have some better finished examples of the strain to try as well.

You’ve been killing the preservation runs too, and the community should have lots of genetics to play with, thanks to you, Skunky Dunk, and others, so thanks to you guys!

I'm glad you ran those! I love doing preservations, I just try to choose those who finish in 10 weeks or less. Of course, the beans will ultimately tell you when they finish. I lost a nice minor stretching Sativa who finished in 9 weeks or less. I was overloaded and by the time I saw it, it was too late . I am starting to save pollen from my endeavors as well. So much to learn, and I LOVE learning things! This place is the best. We have amazing members!
