Lobo's Testing Lab 2025

It looks like the Silver Pearl 75 is a female, but not as conclusive as the lab would like it to be. Apparently, they prefer a whole leaf and just did a clipping of the tip in a vial. Below is what I received from the lab, which was super fast because I just dropped the sample yesterday around noon....

I performed the analysis on the leaf tissue submitted for sex determination earlier this afternoon.

The leaf tissue submitted for the analysis was in poor condition, though the assay itself does not require very much tissue, damaged or wilted tissue results in poor responses.

This assay is performed in triplicate due to the sensitive nature of the DNA we are looking for. The leaf tissue submitted for Silver Pearl 75 had been torn and was wilted by the time the analysis was performed, resulting in only one of the three replicates yielding enough viable DNA to produce reliable results.

Though the replicate that worked indicates Silver Pearl 75 is a female, the confidence is less than I would like as the two other reactions didn’t yield results.

I would suggest resubmitting whole undamaged leaflets next week or anytime after. Be aware we are closed Monday for the holiday.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

what kind of lab setup does this guy/company have? he does this testing onsite too , right? sounds very interesting to me. never really knew there was much of a market for sexing of cannabis plants to be honest.
It's actually a high tech lab with some really expensive lab equipment. They are a lab for commercial testing, but they also do testing for home growers at a reasonable price, but we aren't the priority. THC and terpene tests are $50 per sample and sex test is $15. Home growers get one free THC and terpene test per year.

This was my first time using Rio Grande Analytics for sex testing because I normally use Rimrock that only needs a small clipping for their pcr test. Rio Grande Analytics has a website with all their info. They were super cool and gave me a tour of their laboratory and testing machines when I first visited to drop off a sample last month. They have gas and liquid chromatography machines and a bunch of of other things I didn't recognize lol.

I should have the THC and terpene tests for the Alien Apple Breath S1 tester plants in a day or two. I dropped those off with the Silver Pearl 75 sex test sample.

The results from @Rimrock Analytical arrived this afternoon and two of the grow boxes rolled snake eyes with double males. The Lavender Goat and Lemon Skat Haze are being pulled this afternoon and the fem seed replacements started their bath a few minutes ago. The Silver Pearl 75 and the right side plant of Infected Mind will continue their regularly scheduled programming....

I decided not to run the Umami fem seeds, but rather double up on OrganicX fem tester "A" seeds that started their bath a bit ago. I want to see if there is much variance between the two seeds and the plants that come from them....

Lets.grow!! Glad to see the infected minds made it.

The Fem Tester A1 and A2 plants from OrganicX are above the ground and had their humidity domes removed. The other plants had to be put on elevators in the box in an attempt to dry them out a bit. Disappointingly, the Grassroots pots are not good for the self watering bases due to water retention in the top half of the pot that needs to be dry. These would be great pots for top watering folks that want to keep their upper portion of the pot wet. I suppose they would work fine if you didn't do any top watering at all, but that's not me.

Ultimately, I need to stop experimenting with these fancy pots and just use the regular fabric pots from ACI or Vivosun like I said I was going to do after the last failed experiment with the Rain Science bags....

Infected Mind topped today. Fem Testers A1 & A2 growing well. Both Silver Pearl 75 and Infected Mind got foliar feeds along with top feed watering. They are sitting on elevators for at least a day, maybe two to dry out a bit after the top feeding. They really get the overwatered look if they go back on the wicks after the top feeding. These Grassroots pots just don't allow the top to dry out, so just have to adapt.

The Silver Pearl 75 is a perplexing plant. Consistently has the overwatered look, so I'm leaving it on the elevator until the pot is a LOT lighter than it is now. I didn't take a side pic of the Silver Pearl 75, but it's droopy looking. I'm sure she'll perk up when the soil dries up a bit.

The Infected Mind was terminated today. When I went to add water this evening, I found this which wasn't supposed to be as this was the plant that tested female. Either I chopped the wrong plant, the testing was wrong or something happened with the plant. In any event, it's chopped and the last month is wasted which is what I'm looking to avoid when getting my plants sex tested.

I'm deciding what to start in the box next, which may be an auto to catch it up to the Silver Pearl 75 that is going into flower this next weekend and in line with the OrganicX Fem Tester A1 and A2....

Lookslike a straight up male. I wonder if the testing labels got it wrong or a
what happened like you said. An auto run sounds fun

I received this email from Taylor at Rimrock Analytical a few minutes after I sent him an email about getting the male on the female tested plant. I'm starting a mutant run in November when these current plants finish and I'm going to send another round to Rimrock for testing and see how it goes.

This was the second time I've used them and last time they were on point. Their customer service is prompt and professional, so this gives me a bit more confidence in the services they provide.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. While errors in these genetic tests are extremely rare, they can occur despite the fact that they are over 99% accurate according to both the manufacturer’s specifications and our own internal validation.

That said, I want to sincerely apologize for any confusion or inconvenience this may have caused. We will issue a full refund for this round of testing, which will be credited back to the account used for payment.

We stand behind the quality of our work and take these matters very seriously. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any further questions or if there’s anything else we can do to support you.

3 Bears OG from Mephisto Genetics will replace the surprise Infected Mind male. I chose this one because I've grown it before and didn't do it justice, so it's getting another shot. Being a 65 day seed to harvest puts it right inline with the Silver Pearl 75 that got flipped to flower yesterday.

The 3 Bears went into straight coco as I didn't have a chance to buy anymore of the Paonia Soil Bomb 50/50. I'm using the GrowMAX by HortGrow and should be a great medium for this autoflower. I used the AutoPots copper root control disc thing in the bottom of the pot, so there shouldn't be any issues with root encroaching on the wicks. I also went with a standard 3 gallon fabric pot since they seem to be the best choice with these grow boxes.

Silver Pearl 75 from @FlyingFishFarms was flipped to flower with 100% light intensity in the vegetative spectrum at 12/12. It's growing well once it got going.

The mystery Fem Tester A plants from OrganicX are both doing well and looking very similar.

Hope the 3 bears takes off for ya. I think I have some of those or crosses of it. Your plants always seem to like those boxes and the soil you're providing. Looking good as usual.

I did a 4 assed monkey x walter white this summer and it's really tasty, very pine forward. not very pretty though. Started to get some rot on a lower so I took it before the whole thing got infected. Fun giggly weed not for sleeping. I started it in a cup and transplanted very carefully. It didn't get as big as it should have because of that. Was too close to the wet ground that's why it got some rot. I should've put it up on a stump, got it off the ground. Always a learning process.

The 3 Bears OG did not sprout after 6 days, so I replaced it with an Epsilon F1 from RQS. It is the fastest auto in my arsenal at 60 days sprout to harvest, which puts in line with the other 3 boxes.

Fem Tester A1 & A2 got switched to 12/12 with light intensity at 100% using the vegetative spectrum. Fem Tester A2 is showing some variegation on one branch, so maybe some chem in it? It's a complete mystery tester with no grow data from OrganicX.
