Does it drive anyone else crazy to buy something online and then be hounded to provide a review? I find it obnoxious and an abuse of trust. I provided my contact information for the purpose of a single transaction and for no other purpose. These requests also assume my time is worthless.
I've decided to try and fight back. I'm probably tilting at windmills, but if they can fuck with me, I can fuck with them.
I sent my first invoice this morning to a company for writing an online review. I treated their email as a request for services and told them my rate and minimum number of hours I charge and that I require payment in advance. I added a few more details and said I would follow up if I didn't hear back. I will follow up until they are sick to death of me.
This will be an evolving thing as I hope to end up with a fairly standard boilerplate email invoice, with only the company info to be plugged in, as the initial response. How the company responds to me from there will determine how much fun I get to have with individual cases.
I want to make these people hate their company policy of harassing customers. If it doesn't help lead to policy change, at least I get to give back some of the frustration they cause.
As a related aside, for anyone who wants to get past the online bullshit-maze and contact a person, this site is a great source of phone numbers and emails for most companies:
