Microgreens and sprouts

Documenting from seed to finish how I do my microgreens. Pea, sunflower and wheatgrass for now. If other people are into sprouting please join in here.
These wheatgrass shots are really helping me deal with stomach issues as well as general inflammation in my body, I've only been drinking them regularly for a couple of weeks but now my body is asking for them shots so I know there is something really good in there that I need.

Start by getting the right equipment and seeds.
It's really important to have the correct trays and seeds for doing microgreens. You have to use mesh trays that go on top of a solid bottom tray, this allows the roots to grow through the mesh and to be able to bottom water. Microgreens can easily mold it's important to only do the bottom watering.
These trays are designed to fit together and are very solid. They are made in USA and will last you a long time.

The seeds I get fom True Leaf Market, they have a great reputation and a nice variety.

The pea, sunflower and wheatgrass all need to be activated with at least a 12 hrs soak. After a lot of R&D this is a good amount to use per tray. about 8oz per. Other microgreens like salad mix type stuff don't need to be soaked and can be directly planted. Having one of these mesh screens is critical, you can make one or they sell them.
I rinse them a couple times then soak. They go in the pantry where it's dark. Will report back tomorrow.

Nice, I just harvested some pea shoots so will be eating on those for the next couple days. they go pretty quick. It's been on and off for about 4 years now and I just know that it's made a difference with my health. I actually can't believe the results from the wheatgrass shots, I took a 6oz shot about a week ago and it was like life before inflammation.

This thread caught me already approx 2 days into the current batch of broccoli sprouts. 3 tablespoons seeds per 1/2 gal Mason jar. Posted a pic of the lids below.

I'll rinse with tap water and drain before & after work, then before bed. Once drained, I just leave the jar on it's side, covered by a dishtowel.

Will try and remember to shoot a progress pic tomorrow night.

Hanging on every word, dudes !

I really want to try this.
Great, if you've been wanting to do something healthy for yourself this is an inexpensive way to do just that. This is my rack set-up. Fits 4 trays per rack so I can do 20 trays at a time without taking up too much space.

Right up my alley, I was just looking into this. Any recommendation on lighting? I heard some doctor on joe rogans podcast talk about how broccoli sprouts have some sort of anti aging compound in them and wanted to get into sprouts / microgreens since.

These are the lights I use for my rack set-up. I use these to start my canna plants as well. They love them and pretty sure you can't burn ur babies with these lights.

So much good research on this, I'm really getting into these wheatgrass shots. There's an instant boost but if you keep taking them long term you might see some really good things happening with your health. Having a healthy immune system is so key. This is something that I believe doctors should be telling people instead of giving them all these garbage big pharma drugs that have side effects that are worse than whatever you might have started out with. Have problems with inflammation? Give this a try and see for yourself. Fun thing to follow along that won't break your' bank. Think of the money you spend as an investment into your health.

@Rosinallday , I appreciate the information.
Looks like you got things down pat.

Couple questions,,
What type of sowing media would you recommend?
I got chunky coco and wormed bunny compost at my disposal. Could I make that work ?

Looks like many of these options are harvested within 10 days, is this
a water only thing ?

Also I am curious about temperatures. Does the whole operation do better on the cooler side? Or am I just making that up?

Like I said, lots of questions.
Tell you what, if that green rack had a journal, I would read it everyday.?

Broccoli sprouts update.

Pretty sure this is the morning of day 3 since soaking the seeds.

A little noticable growth overnight.

Rinsed w/ just enough tap to make them swim. Next rinse will be in 11hrs.

Back under the towel for now....

Same lights I have set up on the same shelf. All my canna sprouts start under these..They won't burn babies and are super bright..They definitely keep the stretch out of seedlings..seedlings stack very well IMG_20230227_080236.jpg IMG_20230227_080255.jpg .worth every penny

I use the same media that I use for my canna plants. Stick with something that is fluffy with plenty of organic matter. I have a bag of Pro-Mix at the moment and I'm using a medium that already has nutrients for the wheat grass. You can use the Happy Frog type medium that is already amended or go the Pro-mix type route with a medium that doesn't have a lot of nutrients but is excellent for germinating.
I see many people using coco(mostly the finer stuff). Pro-mix has a lot of coco in there. Next time I'll get the smooth version. I discovered some chunky coco in there but it's okay. You can try the bunny compost, the main thing is to avoid things that could cause mold, that's why I go for the fluffy soil that drains easily.

Yip, harvest is about 7-10 days on the micro greens. When it's a bit colder it takes longer. The rack set-up is in a climate controlled shop so never gets too hot or too cold. The ideal range is probably the exact same as for canna plants. You just have to watch for humidity or cold and damp which can both cause mold. I have a fan blowing over them at all time to also help with the mold factor.

When I use a medium that already has nutrients I only use water for feeding. When I use something like Pro-Mix I do add some liquid nutrients, just a drop though. Something as simply as water soluble kelp would be great for them at this stage.

This is great, I had a feeling there would be more people into this. Would be great to get a bunch of people going on this. It'll be one of the best things you'll ever done for your health.

I have an Omega juicer, also a hand crank one but that's no fun. You want a masticating juicer for the win.
this would probably work just fine.

What do you think about just adding the wheatgrass and sprouts straight to the blender..I've been blending these powdered supplements with a jag of fermented red cabbage and black walnuts in almond milk..Don't feel hungry all day..I would assume a handful of wheatgrass in the blender would be as useful as juicing with the extra fiber.. thoughts?
