Microgreens and sprouts

My girlfriend and cat said thank you, I will be ordering 5 sets of trays and the recommended seeds tonight. Thanks again for creating this thread!!
I second that, thanks for the thread! I am starting backwards I think lol. I Just ordered my juicer. I figure I can start juicing while I build my grow. I have a centrifuge juicer which I used a lot when I first got it, in fact I turned myself orange from carrots lol. But it's a pain in the ass to clean and you can't juice microgreens. From everything I have been reading I am liking the idea of the cold press. This thread sent me down a rabbit hole the other night ?..

Happy to share, it's been such a good thing for me and the way I'm doing it now is a lot different than when I got started.
That masticating juicer gets it really good, and just to be clear I eat the microgreens, the wheatgrass is the only thing that gets juiced. All I can say is avoid the hand crank juicer, they work great but unless you feel like a cardio workout every time you juice just get the Omega.

Eating the greens...awesome! after my reading it sounds like the wheatgrass juice is where it's at...I trusted my fellow PH rec and ordered the one you posted here. And it was like %47 off so how could I go wrong for an entry masticator. Thanks again !! I think you said it but I want to confirm ..after you cover the seeds with the linen cloth, you then cover with a top tray for darkness?

I was surprised at the price of that one, seems like a good deal. The wheatgrass shots are awesome, I'm so on this program now that I can feel what a difference it makes to my stomach.
Yes, the linen cloth gets covered with an old tray bottom, same as with the sunflower and pea shoots. The difference is that you have to spray the cloth every 6-8 hrs for a couple of days because it's not covered with a growing medium.

They have started rooting and I can see the grass coming up already. Should be good to uncover and put under the lights in the morning.

Where do you get your seeds and in what quantity and how long does that last? That jar looks great!

Apologies for the delay.
Just now checking in.

I settled on Food To Live for the seeds.
Usually try to capitalize on a promo to pick up a 5lb bag that will last approx 10 months of non-stop running that 1/2 gal jar.

Thanks for the jar compliment ?
It's a regular Ball 1/2 gal. Those sprouting lids make all the difference.

Snapped a couple pics for you below. 20230301_210921-0.jpg

I gotta get to bed, but did want to finish out documenting the process on those broccoli sprouts.

Got them greened up.

Next, floated them in a salad spinner to sink the unsprouted seeds, and remove a few more of those hulls.

After the spin, they're spread out on a towel to dry off for a few hours. I'll fan them a couple times.

Then they go into that 2 litre container. I cover it in plastic wrap, and then stab a bunch of holes in the wrap for ventilation.

They keep in the fridge just fine for over a week, but I try to time consumption to use what I have by the time the next round is ready.

Good morning....?

I'm going to stop beating everyone up w/ the sprouts after this - I promise.

Here's the beginning for me.

After the above soak, the seeds are poured in the jar. I'll put the sprouting lid on, and rinse & drain a couple quick times until the water running off is clear.

After that, the jar gets a roll to distribute the seeds around for a little more even air flow. If it's a workday, the next rinse & drain will be when I'm back home in 10 to 11 hours. If it's my day off, I'll probably add an additional rinse in the middle of the day.

In between the rinses, it tucked off to the side of the counter, under a towel - no science behind that, it was in the instructions I read initially.

Then in a day or two, we're right back where we started, and it just keeps going.

Thanks for all the documenting @UncleB.
This is after an overnight soak and good rinse. I realized that you're just using 1/2 gallon mason jars, thought those were the wider sprouting jars.

After a couple of days under the linen cloth, the seeds will be rooted and once you see the grass starting to come up they are ready to go under the lights. From this point on it's only bottom watering. I like to put them right in front of the fan when they come out so that the surface area can dry out as quick a possible. This is to fight mold.

Their roots are just starting to come through the mesh trays.

4-5 days later

This is after harvest. Nice and clean, I don't see any hint of mold. The wheatgrass are one and done for me. I only get one harvest out of a tray again to avoid any chance of mold.
IMG_3780.JPG
This batch went a couple extra days under the lights. Maybe 15-20ml more. This is what they recommend for a daily dose. about 4 ounces which is one tray. I can still feel the effects the following day so although I didn't have any yesterday I still didn't get any heartburn and my stomach was in a good place.
IMG_3783.JPG
If ur gonna eat the froth go ahead and do it right at harvest bc once it's been in the fridge for a while it turns gooey and not so pleasant. Some home made kombucha for a chaser. you kinda get used to it but it's nice to have something to chase it down with. Finally got my home brew going again, so done paying for kombucha.

Here we are again.
Seeds that were soaked overnight for last Thursday morning are now ready for a little light to green them up a bit, and then a rinse & dry-off.

@Rosinallday - How did things go for you with that Thursday jar of yours?

Just took a look.
That bag was purchased June 9, 2022.

Took a look, and yes the current prices are really high. Not sure what's going on. I've seen them go out of stock on occasion over the years, but haven't seen a price increase like this...?

I spoke to one of them in chat and they say they only have the 1 lb'ers in stock but will be getting the larger sizes again. I know I went to that link when you put it up and they were out. But they had the choice up at that $46 price. I also asked if there were any major price changes and she said "nope". So keep an eye out I guess.
Maybe I'll get the 1 lb'er or maybe something else, not sure yet.

Hey - thanks for getting that info!
Was honestly getting a little nervous...?
