Went to my first gig in years yesterday. A friend was mixing one of the bands, so I was able to see a show without being among the "great unwashed"(that was the tongue-in-cheek phrase being thrown around backstage re the seating area)

The two headliners have been well known Canadian artists for decades, but I'd never heard of the Dead South before. Ended up just chilling out behind the stage most of the day, catching up with old friends and smoking a shitload of weed. I was amazed how many people were sharing pipes and doobs.(I politely declined sharing....buncha dirty touring musicians, fuck that :devilish::ROFLMAO:)

Met a bunch of new people too and just had a really chill day. TDS's FOH guy, Rhubarb was fun. Ended up shooting the shit for ages. Poor fucker was on his first gig since Covid hit. Their last show had been in England and I guess Rhubarb had a shit-awful night on the board. I don't know all the technical details, but he'd been going crazy for a chance at redeeming himself for a year and a half. Luckily their set went off really well.

Decided to look the band up today and realized how out of touch I am. One of their vids has nearly 260,000,000 views, and the one I linked below is at nearly 26 million. I guess they're doing all right for Saskatchabush boys. ;) Cool style, too.

I'd listened to his stuff for years before I learned Doc Watson was blind. I guess I never needed to know that to appreciate his brilliance. Kind of like with Jeff Healy though, it makes me appreciate the work they put in that much more.

I have nothing against Brian Johnson as a human being. I am happy for ACDC's subsequent success and they deserve their place in the Pantheon.
But in my heart and mind, ACDC ended when this man died. Forever in contention for the ultimate Rock n Roll frontman, the high priest of the party, rest in peace Mr Bon Scott.

Angus with a halo is also one of the best things ever. :punkrocker:

I don't think I've ever seen this video before. Watching Randy has given me goosebumps that won't go away. His death was such a horrible loss for the world.
(not meaning to be a downer by posting late legends, it was a coincidence that this followed the Bon Scott post.

While we're talking about legends, I know this video is kind of long, but hearing the guy in the studio say that MC5's sound made him feel like the people in Vietnam on the front lines is one of the best one liner comparisons I can think of for a band like them!

And now for something completely different.

Baltimore hip hop!

They're a throwback to the days when it was common knowledge that rap is an acronym for rhythm and poetry. No autotune, no mumble rap, no bitches and bling bullshit, just real shit.

Good shit, K!
Yeah, they definitely have an old school vibe, specially the second tune. I'm picking up vibes of a few 90's acts.

Everyone knows The Bad Touch by the Bloodhound Gang( baby you and me ain't nothing but mammals...), but they actually have a lot of fun tunes. They are childish and often crude as fuck, but damned if they don't have some clever wordplay. One of my favorite lines is

"life's short and hard,
like a bodybuilding elf,"

This is probably their most twisted tune. The production costs were about $5, just an old Casio keyboard and a mic.......and a very messed up mind.
But then again, you weren't expecting a beautiful love song from a tune entitled

A Lap Dance is So Much Better When the Stripper is Crying

Detroit is special; I remember back when people argued over if England or New York started Punk Rock, meanwhile in Detroit MC5 and The Stooges were probably like "WTF.....We're not from New York...." LOL. Death is another band from Detroit that lead into Punk Rock.

Now if we're gonna talk about strange and WTF stuff I have to add:

This old favorite just popped up on random, so I found a video to share. Bonus for me, as it was a live performance explaining the genesis of the song.

I doubt you'll ever again run across a tune that has the phrase "it's interracial cowboy, homo kinda love" sung in the first person by an embarrassed Texan.:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

(I assume if you're reading this, you know I'm not a person to share something hateful. IMO, it's just having fun and is not at all mean spirited.)

Never thought I would enjoy this, but damned if I didn't.

Five siblings ranging from 12-21, 3 boys and two girls, covering Metallica.

Yeah same , I was reluctant to watch this as I’m a solid Metallica appreciator . At first I thought here we go a kids Nordic metal band in the same style but they did well . She did a solid job on the vocals giving it enough grunt ??

The gal on vocals made the performance, IMO. The rock-dolly drummer had me nervous, but the singer was all metal; no trying to look "cute". She made me believe she was a real metalhead(even if she isn't). The rest of them were solid, but it could have gone wrong in a hurry without her. Like I mentioned, it was a pleasant little surprise.

These kids are little legends considering their age . Yeah it’s not perfect but who is at that age . Love it ??
