New lights

Not personally but they don't have a very good reputation. I've read those fixtures don't have enough ventilation around the ballast so they can over heat.

Honestly if your going to buy the bulb separately it's hard to beat this guy for the money:

I run this exact lamp:

A friend of mine used to work at HTG and got it for me for cheap because it was slightly damaged. I had intended to upgrade after a couple years but we're going on 4 now and it's worked so well all I've done is replace the bulb. The only reason I suggest the Vivosun is it's the same ballast with a better reflector.

Anybody have any experiences with the yield lab fixtures? Will get a Philip's bulb but have a good price compared to a lot on this style of light. Also if I get one before this plants finished would it be advised to add it in? Or would that be to much change? View attachment 15043
I've never used one myself but that looks like a pretty nice light, and a good deal to boot.

So despite dimmer just run 100%? And I think this is the route I'm going to go. Ya I seen ones around 200 for ballast, then just buy the Phillip's bulbs.
Not sure if it is right or wrong but i use my dimmer on the CMH every time i introduce new plants to the light. Maybe a max of 3 or 4 days starting at 50% working my way up each day. I have harmed more plants introducing to new lights more than any other single thing growing.

Yeah, I'm sure that wouldn't be an issue. I think it's more once they're in flower. I guess dimming the light flattens the spectrum so it inhibits flowering and trich growth. I've heard it's bad for veg too but no one's ever really explained why.

Due to the frequency of the light, less power it's not reaching the right frequency.

Have to agree with you on the vivosun. When it comes to growing i figure one of the worst things that can happen is causing a fire with subpar electrical equipment. When it comes to that kind of equipment i figure a little more money is fine for something safer. With that being said i do not own any Vivosun lights i am judging solely on price.

Vivosun is actually a major brand with decent customer support and thousands of growers using their lights. The reality is most HID ballasts are perfectly safe. Those more expensive lamps are mostly using the same ballasts anyways, it's just the hood design that differs. There's some exceptions, but only when you get up into that $500 range. If you read through reviews and grow journals, those mid-range lights like the one Frenzy linked are known to have way more issues because they don't ventilate the ballast housing well enough ... Better off having a ballast with no housing.

Most grow related fires are caused by faulty wiring in the home or user error anyways. People letting their plants touch the bulbs, bad homeowner wiring jobs or overloading circuits etc.

I'd have zero concerns using a Vivosun fixture.

I would not, however, buy one of those no name brand drop shipped Amazon fixtures, especially since they only save you a few bucks.

Basically what I'm saying is spend $125 or $500 ... everything in between is a waste imo haha. On Amazon anyways.

Edit: I may actually buy a Vivosun fixture this week now that I'm thinking about it. I'm getting a bigger flowering tent and taking over some more space in the basement, debating on running 2 315CMH in there or going with a CMH/LED combination

I should not have knocked Vivosun i don't know that much about them. I was basing my comment on price alone. I am not that knowledgeable in the electrical know how so sometimes i steer away from the cheaper priced items hoping for a higher quality item thinking it could be safer.

Fuck I think my led is one of them.....lol

Also if wired properly it will trip breaker before there is a issue again if proper wire and breaker size is used. I ran all my lines for my stove, range, baseboards, and pool, so I feel confident on that aspect. Also have 200 amp service so I have a bit open. So that's the plan 2 315 vivosuns with Philip's bulbs wired at 220v.

I have another question have a plant under a can light (not intentional just where it sits) the lights are 3100k and this plant is a beast lol. Wondering if they have a effect? If so could putting can lights in room to supplement more? also would have for good lighting, for pictures and diagnosing. Can run 6 daisy chained. 20200620_134524.jpg
The sign says "be groovy or leave man" if anybody was wondering lol
