Come As You Are
I actually had a home intruder back in early 2012 right after Google Hangouts was a thing. Was doing a hangout with some tech friends from Gizmodo when I heard the wife yelling "who are you? Get out of my house!"
I darted out of my what was to eventually become my grow room, into our living room, to assess the situation. Dood was blabbering "They're trying to kill me!" "There's five of them!".
I ask him politely to leave. He says he isn't leaving ot "they" will kill him.

Conundrum. I want to go back to geeking out on new windows releases and cell phone RAM and he wants to stay. I can't physically drag him out, he outweighs me by a little bit.
I naively dial 911. They ask me if me or anyone's life is in danger. "Just his if he tries to get squirrely with me. The 911 operator responds "Ok, we'll send someone by in the next two hours, call us back if the situation changes".

I tell her "AYFKM, I'll call the moth3rfucking coroner if the situation changes" and I hang up. I'm infuriated now, not at the dude cowering in the corner of my living room but at the nice police officers that will be stopping by for tea in a couple hours.

My cell rings, it's the 911 lady... "Sir, don't do anything, officers are on their way".
They show up about 10 minutes later and three of them have to pick this guy up and carry him out into the car. He's from the neighboring town and he was here trying to bang some guy's lady. He probably had good reason to fear for his life.

How did it happen? My wife had just come back in from letting the dog out to pee. We have a metal "security" door on both the front and back doors. Just by coincidence, he was heading down our walkway and hopped over the gate just as she came back in, not locking the door behind her. He walked right in.

ok, one more.
In 1995, my brother-in-law was repairing some rental properties his dad owns. He was staying in one of them and was working on it on his days off. One day, while he's sleeping, a guy breaks the garage window and enters the house. He starts to get up and the guy enters the room. They're both startled and the guy lunges at my B-I-L. My B-I-L grabs a .32 that we had been plinking with and fires a shot off. It hits the guys shoulder and as the story goes, looked at the spot where he'd been shot and passed out instantly. ? ?

My B-I-L had to go through heaps of shit afterwards but what really pissed them off was that they had laid down fresh carpet the week before and now this guy was bleeding all over it.

My b-i-l most likely would have mopped him up hand-to-hand but he barely had time to get the shot off before the guy was on top of him.

bonus round: I've had a firearm pointed at me eight times since I moved here in '93, the last time in 2003, when I was robbed at gunpoint with a coworker as we were taking smoke break out in front of the gas station we worked at. The irony being, if he hadn't been there, I would have just played like the place was closed like I did every other night when I was working[srry mfr's, park's closed, moose out front should have told you]
