Looking forward to your visit, and to getting back into the foothills.
(Can you give Jewels a gentle bonk on the melon and kidnap him on your way through? Once his headache subsides I'm sure he'll appreciate it ;-P )

I can appreciate that.
Peer is often connoted as negative.
Untrue.
Camaraderie is beneficial, and can be positively motivating.

Getting me out of my shell is no easy feat.
I have already been enjoying this trip for weeks, and I haven't even left the house yet. It is already having positive effects on many facets of my life.
Certainly, after a bit of adventure, I am going to want to do it again.

Only went over the line once. It was so long ago that I didnt need a passport.
I've only ever crossed in BC and on a plane, never at the Alberta/Montana border.

-------------------

This is happening quick. Only a few days now before your journey begins.

@SSGrower , we should probably have a phone chat and figure out a few details. I'm not planning anything too detailed ATM, just a few spots to visit and mostly playing by ear. Personally I'm not a fan of minute-by-minute itineraries. For my last interprovincial holiday, my entire plan was "go till I feel like stopping, stay until I feel like going". :)
If there is anything in particular you want to see or do, I'm pretty adaptable.

Also, feel free to pass my number along to @Jewels if he wants it

Let's shoot for this evening, you probably have a few things to do on that pond and I gotta pour some concrete and start packing.

Wife was telling me she wasn't sure how I'd pull this off when we first started planning. First off, she wondered how I'd get cave dwelling weed growers to come out and be social? I assured her we are more social than our stereotypes allow. Then there is me...let's just say planning ahead and scheduling shit on a calendar aren't my strong suits, lol. It helps I'm not really growing anything right now and wife can handle regular garden stuff.

Heading for MT on the 1st, I'll start the sock give away then, you will need to have an item from the store to participate.

Candy isn't getting me in a van... repaint it maybe? I have ideas:

"Verified Cheese and Chemdog cuts"
"Kittens inside"
"Baby Jaguar / Leopards inside"
"This strain smells like Corpse flowers "
"Baby Catfish inside"
"Map of your local Zoo's exit points closest to Jaguar enclosure "

Forecast is in.

0% chance of rain on the 2nd and 3rd.

A typical June will see 50mm of rain.
May thru August will see 170mm

They are forecasting 283 mm tomorrow.

A full foot of water !
That could possibly be more water in a day then that place has seen for the last 2 years.

The Milk River got its name because of the white sediment from the badland clay. Even at low flow it looks like weak tea.
Apparently, it is thick as chalk after a good rain.

full moon and high water
rare and auspicious event
we are in for an experience
I would not miss this
hell or high water

Just a thought @SSGrower , and one that may not appeal to a fluff hucker, but if you want to have a try for a Canadian dinosaur there are a couple sturgeon holes in the circled area. It's also quite a long way from where we will be meeting. Doesn't matter to me either way, just tossing out options.

Last international visitor I took there was a Limey and he landed a 58incher. That said, it might have been the only bite we had that day between 4 of us.

If all it takes is luck I seem to have plenty of that. I recall some banter in the fishing thread a while back bout not knowing the difference between a pike and a muskie or something to that effect. Well...I sure wouldn't be the one to ask. You have me from the the 5th-8th if you want, gonna clock 3k miles a few more won't hurt for a once in a lifetime experience.

Bentonite ( slickasssnot) for sure.
Supposedly some of the primo low fire stuff on the planet.

Musky have different jaw structure (The bottom of the jaw has little holes, and Pike and Musky have different looks there) though the easiest way to tell is if it's bars, it's a Musky, if it's spots, it's a Pike.

That's a Musky

This is a Pike:

That's a Pike. The spotting follows length of the body unlike the Musky where it's "up and down" :)

I'd just like to point out that we have Sturgeon, Pike, and Musky here......So many in fact you're allowed to keep one a year... Just tossing that out there :)

We'll figure out details once we meet up.

I'll bring fishing gear, some heavy dino stuff, and I'll see what I have for lighter gear if we find a creek to try out Nordegg way. You'll have to look after licensing(if you choose to fish). If you haven't done so before, it can be done in RMH.

As to the dino spot on the map I posted, I stopped going there at night some years back. A few people I know had encounters with mountain lions out there(I hate that I can't just say cougar without someone making a horny old woman comment:rolleyes:) and I had an human encounter right out of an urban legend. I'll save those stories for when we are sitting in the dark in puma and bear country. ;)
