The mustard seed meal is pretty potent smelling, I'd probably cut the rate in half if it's effective for fungus gnats. Will have a pretty good test of it cause the 2x4 isn't getting it.

Moved the cobs around on the new lightand chopped off the extra angle pieces.

Oscillating fan is going out and I was already needing more airflow so I installed a ceiling fan.

Moves a lot of air and is real quiet.

Also switching from a 5 gal o a 25 gal reservoir it's an atv mount sprayer tank that has a built in bottom drain.

Those COB lights look so bizarre!

Interesting mix there. I use a similair pre mix from the garden store to amend my outdoor beds in the springtime, and feed a similair mix about once a month. Do you water only for its whole life or do you amend along the way as well?

Thanks for asking.
The bone meal and alfalfa were leftover additions and at least partly added to clear up some storage space, lol. Alfalfa is almost always good to add imo, kinda like frass and vermicompost.

With these beds I am trying to go with something that resembles water only. I have a couple products I will use from time to time.

20230204_174945.jpg 20230204_175035.jpg
Last round I didn't ammend anything and I think I used the super k fulvate and fertinitro plus twice and tm7 once. Salts I'll mostly use in veg when they are in containers.

I like foliar for calcium, magnesium and silica. For si I use a dietary supplement by zemvelo, it has fulvic in it as well, Ca is xtreme gardens cal carb and Mg is epsom.

A couple years ago when I first started the 3x3 I mulched with some wood chips, they have broken down enough I need to replenish them. I have been stop gapping with rice hulls but like the wood chips better, mostly because they are less messy.

I am running 45ish max, Pretty sure the heatsinks can take 75 with decent airflow the cobs can do 100 if you can manage the heat amd have the power. @JL2G and I were just talking about this when he was up, he was thinking about starting up a water rig again.

I definitely left some meat on the bone and have been kicking around options to bump up the power but I don't have much room with only 15amps available for everything.

I figured they were 50s. I just wanted to make sure. That's one hell of a unit you have. I love cobs and I'm going to be running them alongside diablo's this spring.

You are probably right on what someone would build a light as if they were in the business of selling lights.
Cobby will make sure you aren't gonna overshoot the equipment though, these are the heatsinks -

I have ran my old cob rig for 7 years now, still had most of the frame parts leftover from when I built it. Mixed results when I combined cobs and boards, felt like I was better off keeping them separate. In fact the boards will be getting put back in service for the chucking tent I am putting together.

Setting up the Blusoak/Blumat system and figured I would give a go at documenting some of the best practices that have worked for me. I would like to thank www.sustainablevillage.com for their free grower support, call them up and they will work through any questions you have.

I will start by explaining how I am using the system. I use 1 9in carrot per bed, they have a 5in one as well but I find the 9in works better for my beds (3x3 and 2x4). If you go for the sustainable village bed kits I suggest getting the kit at least one size larger than the bed you have. I don't think they include enough soaker hose with their kits, I ended up getting it in bulk and cutting to the lengths I wanted and using the stuff that came with the kits elsewhere. Also, they have a flexible tubing (8mm superflex) that is much easier to work with than that stiff pvc shit.

Since the system is entirely dependant on line pressure anything that can be done to ensure more consistent pressure will make the system work better. Keep the reservoir height and fill level consistent. Lower profile reservoir will be more consistent. Minimize the length of hose and number of fittings. Use a loop feed system instead of a single line.

Loop feed -

As you can see I have a leak to address, not surprising.

Right now I am saturating the beds, this will probably take a day or 2 so it is a good time to presoak the carrots.
20230206_112609.jpg

When it comes time to assemble the dripper heads, the goal is to have one hanging drip.
Too fast

Still too fast, but like I said I am presoaking the beds so I am monitoring theses throughout the process.

Next post will have more details on setting the carrots up, in the meantime if you have any questions, fire away.

BlueRipper = Jack the Ripper x Blueberry
Gorilla Blues = GG4s1 x BlueRipper
Graveyard Whistler = Ghostown f2 x Swayze

BlueRipper, sometimes lemon but more berry, this is my first run of the f2s 5 female x 2 male

GW x CnC, sweet, bread / dough, berry and gas should maybe find a good match for the GlueChem TerpCookie OG (GWxCnC) x (GG4s1 x Tomahawk).

Well it took me all of 2 days to change my mind on the boards. Added 2 x Growlights Australia boards at about 150W ea., bringing the room total to 1590W max for lights, about 650 for the 2x4 and 940 for the 3x3, leaving not a whole lot for environmental.

I'll put a 315 cmh in the 2x4 garage chucking tent, formerly stored on wifes jewlery making table. In fact working on that today as the shed beds are still equlibrating.

No update on the Blusoak system setup other than the carrots are temporarily set and I am basically hand watering to get the beds saturated and rolling without excessive runoff.

Moved some plants into the shed (3 for the 3x3 and 2 for the 2x4), this one didn’t appreciate vpd of 2.5 @84F under ~50% light power
20230208_092129.jpg
So I dialed the lights back and am getting the vpd in line. I need to pull the plants off 24hr light cycle for the shed and nursery too.

Not great germ results but I added the BAS Beauveria Bassiana to the process and think it (the talc/graphite) dried out the tap on some. In the future I'll be sure the BB isn't bone dry when the seeds are placed in it. 1 for 5 on Afgan x Appalachia and 1 for 3 on Khem Kardashian, both were the first plantings of each tray, with results seeming to improve the more time the BB had to soak up some moisture from the soil. The one KK looks like she took a brick to the face too. One BRT is gonna dampen off and a JoA has been parked at the surface for a couple days.

Should be able to set up the rest of the Blusoak system today then minor adjustments after transplant. Really should have the plants in and roots in contact with the sensor carrot, but sine the beds were frozen I needed to get them warm and going before transplant.

Mixed a batch of cal-nit and mag phos. I gave some cal-nit a couple days ago, shoulda done it right when I got back from vacation, but now the topdress is beginning to breaking down I should be good to transplant in a week or so.

2L (cause it's close enough to 1/2 gal) - 1/2t cal-nit, 1/2t mag phos. The mag phos takes a bit to dissolve.

Broke down and ordered the acinfinity 69pro, it should have the ability to deadband the outlet switches so my humidifier (swamp cooler) and dehumidifier don't cycle on and of right at the setpoint. Since one of my timers has gotten inconsistent with power failure memory, I'll recycle the 69 basic to be a light timer and 2nd data point for temp and rh. Got a couple fans while I was at it too, had 20% off, try DANNY20 should be for entire cart/bag.

Fine tuning the res setup a little thanks to insights from @WillieP @Jewels and @Gentlemancorpse

I decided to also feed the swamp cooler / humidifier with the res in addition to dehumidifier condensate and put an overflow on the swamp cooler res so I have redundancy and failsafe.

Swamp cooler overflow
20230210_121613.jpg
It already had the float valve and inlet.
20230210_135125.jpg
The dark green hose goes directly outside, I previously had it connected directly to the dehumidifier but it was freezing and backing up. It's a little warmer now and also hoping the discharge water is warmer because it's not direct off the dehuey compressor.

The air duct is both room circulation and outside air when cooling is required.

20230210_135303.jpg
Redid the outlet so I have an extra spigot too.

20230210_135118.jpg
The little silver box on top of the swamp cooler is an attic fan switch that I wired into the fan so the fan only runs when above a given set point (about 90F). The pump runs when humidity is called for and the room circulation and outside air get humidified.

20230210_135750.jpg
The clear tube is the dehumidifier condensate drain and I blocked in the side of the swamp cooler with a piece of insulation like is on the top.
